Evidence indicates people can experience the benefits without harm.
While that may be true that one can get the benefit, Christians must be aware not to be sucked into the spiritual aspect of it. If it is purely just for the exercise, fine and good, as long as they do not fall into any spirituality that may be contained in it. In other word, prudence and discerning have to go together in practicing it. There are many things nowadays that have inherent anti-christian value and element that if being involved in may affect our spirit.

This is the common opinion on this forum, but I think it’s false for two reasons:
  1. Yoga is distinct from other forms of exercise precisely because it has a spiritual dimension, and
  2. Theologically, the claim that all non-Christian spirituality should be avoided is thoroughly unsound and cannot be defended on orthodox premises, only on something like Calvinist premises. Clearly non-Christian spirituality should be regarded with caution and integrated into a Christian framework.

** Is yoga ultimately about peace and love?**

:heaven:

:heaven:/QUOTE

NOOOOOOO! It is about relinquishing your will to an unknown snake goddess. She then mates with a male god and creates a child called vishnu and I think her name is Ida and his name is Ping.

But yoga for stretching is not real yoga it is fake.Real yoga is ALL about the K force which nearly drove Gopi Krishna bonkers.

I am really surprised that no organized military force has tried to harness this power.

EXACTLY!

:nunchuk:

There is…!

But is this really power or the subversion of power?

(note: the power of the devil is the power of love turned fully inwards, to emptiness, away from love, justice, mercy, order).

No mention of Kundalini or Ida Ping but…

In one randomized controlled trial published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, back pain patients who learned yoga had better back function and were better able to manage their pain. Another study in the same journal showed that yoga improved disability from chronic back pain more than exercise or self-care instructions.

There is also a close relationship between yoga and stress, so taking yoga might reduce stress and, in turn, provide some relief to someone with a tense, achy back, noted Dr. Amit Sood, professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

I don’t doubt this.

Michael, you are tuned in with my thinking. :rotfl:YES! I love this film! And…I was strangely thinking of this earlier before you posted it. One of my fave films and very telling, especially in this discussion, and my other thread on Yoga (oh yes!:D).

When was this film made?
2009

fictionalized version of Jon Ronson’s 2004 book of the same name,

…*‘Batman Begins’ *- Global Warming / Climate Change commentary (pretty sure).

*…‘Captain America - The Winter Soldier’ *- GCHQ (pretty sure).

‘Men Who Stare At Goats’ - ? (again, pretty sure).

And yes, I have been waiting to hear his response, which I think will be a long time in the waiting.

I may be wrong, but I thought that the movie was sort of a tongue in cheek comedy poking fun at the military. I never saw it myself though.

I doubt the the pope is going to confirm that the spiritual path of Hinduism is compatible with Christianity. And yes,I am glad those here are not in denial, and finally admit that it IS a spiritual practice.

AS I wrote before,Christianity and Hinduism would be nearly impossible to reconcile because Hinduism is a polytheistic and pantheistic religion. The people are lovely and peaceful and we consider them our brothers and sisters because God created them too. They just have a very primitive understanding.

The final goal of yoga is a supposed yoking with the divine inner self. This is accomplished through the harnessing of the sexual energy. This also is incompatible with our faith because our salvation comes from the great sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

Jesus in the Christian context is God the Son,thesecond person of the Trinity. Jesus is the Hindu religion is just a reincarnation of Vishnu or an ascended master as in theosophy

I don’t doubt this.
ARGHHHHH.The benefits come from stretching! Most all exercise increases flexibility and circulation but it does NOT have as its final goal euphoria and a dissolution of the personality.

Personally I think a lot of the hype behind yoga is driven by motives of profit. Literally millions of dollars on classes, clothes, mats and books. I also think many in the west are deluded into thinking it is some kind of shortcut to spiritual perfection.

According to Patanjali who codified it in Yoga Sutra, yoga was a methodical effort to ATTAIN PERFECTION, through the control of the different elements of human nature, physical and psychical. - See he admits it too,

To clarify something, the bishop said yoga could be an OCCASSION of sin probably if one adopts the spiritual and pantheistic views which would be considered heretical to a Catholic. He is speaking the truth.

Zed pointed out and added that yoga was the repository of something basic in the human soul and psyche. - Now yoga is a “repository”?I thought you guys said it was just stretching muahaha
