Former Vice President Joe Biden (D) declared Friday morning that if black Americans are unsure whether to support him over President Donald Trump in the November election, “then you ain’t black.”

Biden made the unsolicited racially-charged remark as he departed his virtual interview with Breakfast Club co-host Charlamagne tha God.

“If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” Biden told Charlamagne, not in response to any question, but to the host’s statement: “It’s a long way until November, we’ve got more questions.” . . .

Wow. This is one of the most condescending interviews I’ve seen. Early on the interview @cthagod asks Biden about Blacks feeling Democrats take their votes for granted and it ends with Biden shouting about how if Blacks don’t vote for him they “ain’t black” . . .

This is the most racist thing I’ve ever heard out of a Presidential candidate. . . .

Joe Biden is an old white democrat elitist who obviously feels he is entitled and has the African American vote in his back pocket. What an insult to the African
Americn community. He is a cocky politician and I hope a lot of African Americans open their eyes.

I hated the way he kept saying “Come on man!”. I hope he does travel to the studio and sits down with Charlemagne and does another interview.

We don’t need another eitist politician in the White House like Joe Biden. He is a
fool.
 
There was much made of Obama as the first black president. Really, this is an arbitrary and artificial distinction. Obama was not African-American if you define such as the descendant of African slaves brought to the US. He did not come from that community. He happened to be of Kenyan immigrant stock on one side.

That being said, it was still objectively remarkable for a non-white man to be elected period.

Of course," I want this guy," is personal. And despite the self preserving need to object violently when suggested, Trumpism is cult-like.
Trump can ramble on in a stream wilted salad, interspersed with a well polled idea like," time to pander to Christian triumphalism," or ," those border people’s fears about America browning."
There has to be a target we can all hate on together, let’s pick our Emmanual Goldstein for this evening’s anger ritual.
An offering to some traditional hook actual and authentic conservatives of means can cling to, and bam. Showtime!
Biden is wilted lettuce in comparison.
Biden needs to adequately present issues like Health Care. Exhibit what empathy looks like and decency. There is nothing occult about Biden. He is, ," I’m not him." His strength is that 2018 and since, the electorate does become lucid around Health Care. And Covid had reminded of community.
Black people I never worry about being fooled, and I consider it high compliment to acknowledge it. Something about a history of segregation and experience with bigotry that maintains lucidity. I cannot recall examples where they loose track of self interest as voters.
Whites are different in my experience. There are Republican whites, and those who somehow think they are. This latter half is suceptable to gaffes like Biden’s.

In the same interview the topic of taking the black vote for granted was something that C.t.G. brought up. Biden’s response to that can be found in the full Breakfast Club interview.

As we often don’t know a person’s lineage and the nationalities of their ancestors I don’t think that criteria is often used for the phrase. To make such a distinction “black descendants of slaves” might better capture the group. The previous ethnonyms that had been of more popular use also did not reference citizenship (“negro”, “black”). I’ve got a classmate whose parents came to the USA from Ghana. The classmate was born here. He was a person of African descent with USA citizenship. It would feel odd to label his ethnicity as anything other than “African-American.”

I came across a news article/video some time ago where someone described her experience of being black growing up in Hawaii. Not that this is a universal e experience, but she mentioned disliking the topic of race because black was largely seen as “other” there (tourist, military person) and that to be black and from Hawaii was something that she sometimes felt like she had to explain to people.

It’s based upon where your parents, grandparents, etc, came from. Not slavery status.
 
I have noticed JB getting very angry when he is challenged by questions or comments he cannot respond to properly.
While Trump is known for his snarky comments he does manage to contain his composure all the while. I don’t see how JB can possibly be up to the job of POTUS. He is past his shelf life

Now I don’t think it is some type of genetic attribute. It is about experience focusing understanding.

Inherent in my opinion is my use of " black people" is not intended as an absolute. I shouldn’t have to say that but will in an abundance of caution.

What does this mean? If you use a word or phrase, then you should use it accurately and not expect us to read your mind to divine your meaning.
 
Trump walks out of press conferences when he is challenged. He absolutely does not respond well to being challenged, his instinctive response is to basically avoid the question and throw out accusations of being attacked in some way.

Biden offered a response to the criticism. I didn’t suggest he didn’t owe one.

Nothing, but it was the other user who said that Trump takes criticism well. It just astounds me that people actually believe that, and that there is a huge cult around him that views him as some sort of alpha male when he really doesn’t act like one. I suppose it is irrelevant to the wider discussion though.

And, to avoid accusations of being a Democrat or something, yes Biden is a racist and is responsible for thousands of deaths caused by the Obama administration in imperialist wars. I do not like him.

John Kerry’s wife is literally an African-American. However, ‘black’ and ‘African-American’ in contemporary usage are not literal terms, nor is ‘Native American’. So it is pedantic to say that Obama is not black or African-American.

With all that, I think Biden is going to have to let black people determine who is black. (See Dave Chappelle!). Viewer discretion advised.

I can imagine the need to address a statement like,“Trump takes criticism well.”
It is like humans can survive without oxygen.
