When I was a Protestant and needed comfort, I memorized and would say the Twenty-Third Psalm many times… Now that I am a Catholic, I can not only say the Twenty-Third Psalm; I also find peace in the beautiful prayers of the Rosary.

Thanking God over and over for His wonderous deeds can’t be anything but good.

I think the warning against repetitive prayers, is the superstitious belief that by saying something over and over again one can in some way magically control God.

We ask our friends to Pray for us, Catholics know that they can also ask the Blessed Virgin to pray for us.

Why do nuns (eg, on EWTN) recite the rosary over and over and over in a sitting. Why not just once and then again the next time they meet for prayer. I can’t see myself doing it, yet I don’t mind what they are doing…just wondering.
There are 20 decades in a complete Rosary, but I have never seen them do more than five decades at a time. (I don’t turn on the TV all that often, mind you.)

THE ROSARY IS REPITION!!! 🙂

But I personally do not use this to impress God as the gentiles would do. I like familiar rythym and familiar prayers that come with it. Since Mary is my mother it’s like going crawl up on her lap and tell her my problems so she could nag Jesus about it! Just as you hug your earthly mother and you are greeted with her familiar scent and love and warmth so it is with our heavenly mother.

I just though I would let non-catholics know they’re right about one part and Catholics know they’re right about the other part. 👍
i hope you’re only speaking for yourself. the Holy Rosary is not repetition - it’s a contemplation of the Gospel, the life, passion and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. no offense but you have a shallow understanding of how to pray the Holy Rosary.
God bless.

I guess you never ask any friends to pray for you.
Yes I do, but what does that have to do with who the actual intercessor is? My Christian brothers and sisters, only pray to God for intersession…hope you see the major difference there. 😉

No because that is what Mary and the Saints do. Pray to God for intercession.

Did you ask her over and over again?

Don’t you pray for the same things more than once in your life?

Why not ask others to pray more than once?
I may pray daily for a thing but not over and over again. I have the assurace that God hears my prayer. Thanks to Jesus I am able tto go boldly before the throne of grace—but that is scriptural.

Just like Sola Scriptura! …wait…

I tell my wife “I love you” 3 times a day on an average. There are nights I tell her that more than 3 times.

So far I haven’t heard her say 'you may tell me that but not over and over!"😃

So far I also haven’t seen anything in Scriptures that say I can’t repeat valid prayers.

Someone forgot to tell the psalmist of Psalm 136 that God doesn’t like repetition.

I personally don’t see the problem with repeating a prayer if that is what you want to do and you are keeping in mind what you are saying. I know it can be like doing a job, we may do it at times and then we don’t even think about what we are doing. I do believe prayer needs to come from the heart. However, I do say the Lords prayer and I love the 23rd psalm…my favorite scripture…so much so that I had to read it to my grandfather on his death bed when he passed away on Thanksgiving in 2008. I just find comfort in it. Anyway, I love to also pray just from my heart and worship God with a prayer that is of my own. Sometimes it is not always about going to God for what you always want, I think sometimes he wants to hear that we love him and not like a bunch of kids begging for something constantly. So, I believe that at times, maybe you should pray to him directly and leave Mary and the saints out of it, especially if you are just constantly asking them to ask him for something. Now doing get in a ruffle, I am not saying he is not there to answer prayers, but isn’t it nice when we have a friend at times that tells us how much they appreciate us and not always telling us their troubles. Just something to think about.

Also, I have watched the nuns a couple of times on EWTN praying and I am sorry to say but they seem quite sad and also some look as if they are bored to death. Not saying that to be disrespectful, but that is what I got out of it the times I have watched that particular part of the show. I have also watched nuns give “talks or testimony” whatever you want to call them and actually enjoyed it.

How is Mary your mother?

Scripture says vain repetition. It is describing what type of repetitious prayer and its intent that Our Lord objects to. I do not see any vain-ness associated with the rosary.

and not to mention too that the Holy Family prayed the book of psalms in their prayers! yes, Jesus, Mary and Joseph did pray “repetitiously.”😉
God bless.

That is fine. Do you tell God how much you love Him three times a day? Do you talk to Him directly.
If you have an open line of communication with God you wouldnt want nor need all these rosaries

Why do you care how other people pray?
