Christians, especially disciples, go beyond all of it their hallow objections. Even if they have no full comprehension of just how hallow those very objections are.

I trust in the mercy of God

A saintly fear of hell is one who fears offending God more than fearing the pains of hell - I’ll admit I’m not quite there yet.

Overall, I’d say I try to keep my eyes on God and less on hell - even though I am quite aware of it, and do pray for the grace of final perseverance.

(Aside: The use of the word State is not in conflict with the concept of Hell as a place - depends upon which Hell one is referring to. Before we are resurrected we are only are souls - i.e. spirit - to speak of a ‘state’ is more accurate than a ‘place’. A ‘place’ though would be more fitting post resurrection as we are re-joined with our bodies.)

I have seen this question in a poll on Foxnews.com. It didn’t seem appropriate to answer it there; but, here, the question and my response are deadly serious. Hell is a reality, whether or not one may choose to laugh it away. We won’t know until we die just who has chosen to spend eternity apart from God. That thought scares the heck out of me! Eternity itself is a formidable subject; but eternity without recourse for my own actions astounds me. If there be any way I can keep from that punishment, I will do it.

Then there is the opposite side of the coin that I always grab onto when I go in meditation to that place we commonly know as Hell. To be in the bosom of my God Who created me and then redeemed me and awaits my coming will be – beyond anything I will ever hear on The View! Come, Lord Jesus!

If you’ve seen the film, the statement can be interpreted rather philosophically. In fact, it was this very statement which led to my figuring out the mystery at the heart of the film.

Verbal also said, “the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.” I would be scared of Keyser Soze too if he existed, but hell and the devil scare me big time. But its possible to be too scared and obsess over sinning to the point where one starts to doubt God’s mercy. I fear hell, but my trust in God’s mercy outweighs that fear. Isn’t that one of the themes of the Divine Mercy? Jesus I trust in you.
