You know, for all my talk about “geriatrics” in prior posts I must admit the interface on this site has quite the learning curve. Between the character count and trying to figure out how to use the quote feature I’ve really let my generation down.

Mea maxima culpa!

Sorry, I meant that I’ve noticed an increase from the base rate of TLM v. OF threads in the last, say, three weeks or so.

That’s why the Molly Shannon posture trumps the Orans. Pray like this and nobody will be bothering to hold your hand. 😉

I guess hands clasped, eyes closed and head bowed wasn’t enough, eh?
Now I wear these. Problem solved. That’s man-genuity!

I’ve been reading L’Inferno, and I’m pretty sure there’s a circle for “30s/40s pub crawl.” Somewhere south of Mezzanine.
Can’t remember the exact Canto number…heve to get back to y’all on that. .

Say, why do you never invite just one Baptist to your party?

I dunno. In this day and age those hands might attract someone somewhere. Care to grab a coffee after Mass? 😉

To be serious for a minute, I’m very fortunate to have never experienced any of that during the Pater Noster. I keep my 5-on-5 and nobody bats an eyelash.

I know, right!? The mixing of generations like that. Anathema sit!

There won’t be a pub left to crawl to. Best invite two. 😉

It’s always funny to hear stories like that. I’ve never experienced a stranger in the pew trying to grab my hand. Families often hold hands, some raise their hands alone, some clasp and bow their heads. No nail-poking or grabby hands. 😱

*Actually, the only time I was “forced” to hold hands was at my confirmation. Father very excitedly called all us catechumens and candidates up and had us make a semi-circle around the altar holding hands, facing the congregation as we prayed the Our Father. A little awkward, but a really moving and beautiful moment. 👼

" there weren’t enough nuns to teach and they had to hire people off the streets."

That’s never going to end well, eh?
“Oh, of course I’ll sign this oath to abide by Catholic moral teaching!”

Not in my parochial high school either. There wasn’t the money for that nor Latin. Not to mention music, art, drama.

My day just started and this has just improved it. Thanks, guys! 😂😂😂

these “TLM & youth” topics have been quite popular lately. I’m curious what’s been causing the rise in interest.
I think a lot of it is due to some in the TLM movement who encourage younger members to drum up support for the movement by overstating its popularity. A kind of “fake it till you make it” marketing strategy. It’s not unique to TLMers. A lot of Protestant churches used the same strategy.

I was reading an article by a Protestant expert on church planting that was speaking to a group of young pastors, and one of the pastors bragged about how his church was growing by leaps and bounds and drawing in lots of millennials. Fascinated, the speaker decided to visit that church in person, unannounced, and was dumbstruck when there were only a couple dozen people in the congregation, mostly older. When he asked the pastor after the service where the young people were, the pastor just blushed and admitted the strategy.

I suspect it’s the same with a lot of the TLM youth boosters who post here. I also suspect that some of them are posing as young people. Their writing style and way of thinking are often uncharacteristic of younger people.

right. If you can’t really address the argument itself, cast doubt on the VERACITY of ‘the other person’.

That kind of strategy usually is engaged in by the extremely young, who have ‘just discovered it’ and who are still in the ‘rebel mode’, and by the extremely old, who never bothered to learn anything different and are in the “I am still the same cool person I was” mode.

Of course there is always the ‘exception’ to the rule, so I wouldn’t think of saying that ‘ONLY" this kind of person would do X. Guess that makes me more open minded than those who have to label an ‘X-doer’ based on what they THINK "X-doers’ are.

That is indeed my observation.

I made a point in saying that this is by no means unique to TLMers. Quite the opposite.

I don’t understand this drive to degrade the OF mass.
This was the sixth post of this thread. Please show me in the previous five posts up to that point where there was a “drive to degrade the OF mass.”
Hey, wadya know: Another Trad thread bashing the OF Mass that will be locked within an hour
And likewise this was the eighth post of this thread. Please show me in the previous seven posts where there was any hint of this being “Another Trad thread bashing the OF Mass.”
