Pardon the double-post here, but let’s get back to what the thread was about in the first place. Young woman doesn’t get what whe wants - it could be alleged that the coach cut her when advances were refused, or that she didn’t fit in with her (highly unlikely) entirely lesbian teammates - young woman throws a hissyfit.

I see no case so far, except that of a whiny teenager making an idiot (and possibly a REAL criminal) of herself. There are simply not enough legally established facts for any other conclusion.

No story, or at least sure not much.
I would tend to agree. There is no evidence that she was kicked off the team for being a heterosexual other than her unsubstantiated claim. If she was indeed a quality player why has not another schools snapped her up?

“There is no evidence that she was kicked off the team for being a heterosexual other than her unsubstantiated claim.”

That what the court will decide. We are speculating on the basis of the internet report.

Some are implying here that she has no case, she’s lying etc. If her coach got the boot from a previous job on foot of similar allegations, then her case is much stronger.

People do make false allegations all the time. What supports or diminshes them is previous history; if the defendant has a history of such behaviour, or the allegation is a one-off from someone malicious.

e.g.

Someone makes an allegation against Fr. So-and-So, who has lead an exemplary life up to that time vs. the latest in a line of allegations against Fr. Such-and-Such whom parishioners in the know won’t let their young sons near.

This was pretty much the point made on the previous thread: Let the young woman prove her allegations in court before everyone starts trying to score political points.

My how the conservatives would have screamed if there were allegations of racial instead of sexual discrimination! Then we would have heard: “There they go again playing the race card!”

I’m just vaguely familiar with this case. But that whole, gays carving out a nitche and excluding the “breeders” thing. Is pretty well established.
Proving it in court. Thats another matter. What do you legal types say? It’s not what you know. It’s what you can prove.

Ah yes, I did refer to such as ‘foolish’ later in the post. My apologies. I thought, however, that my point had been already successfully made. Little girls don’t always want to wear pink or play the ‘princess in distress’. any more than little boys want to build monster trucks and tear up other peoples’ lawns.

Imposing roles like that is rather silly at such an age, and often destructive and just begging for future rebellion. So, perhaps, in that place, the words ‘foolish’ and ‘notions’ were les mots justes.
MOST little boys gravitate to the masculine and MOST little girls gravitate to the feminine with no "outside"help at all thank you very much. What you’re proposing is the old and thoroughly discredited feminist myth that environment determines sex roles, when in fact it is primarily genetic-hardwired into our natures. To suggest otherwise is disengenuous.May I repeat this thread is not about YOU nor your nugatory THEORIES.

Your “point” had certainly NOT been made.

Do you expect us to take your posit seriously?I suspect that you"re having us on.You can’t be serious. This young woman who had the convictive courage to bring this to our attention is-in your words-whiny,idiotic and possibly criminal. You yourself just said that there are simply not enough legally established facts for ANY OTHER CONCLUSION.

Please do not consider law as a career.

How many times has a homosexual been dropped from a team or prevented simply because they were homosexual. It would most likely be more than the number of times tat this particular scenario has, assuming of course that discrimination played a factor here, which, again, I severely doubt.
So one wrong makes another wrong right?PUH-LEEEZE.You severely doubt that this could be true based on what? You’re FEELINGS?Or your politics?

Strawman much?

What I doubt are that there could be an overwhelming lesbian majority on any team. As a lesbian rugby player at a very left-leaning college, only about 1/3 of our players are gay. No way we “run the team” or anything like that.

Somehow you got this from an argument that says that basically, some girls are more masculine than most and some boys are feminine than most? Look, one of my best friends was a girls softball player, and a huge sports fan. She could lift with guys on the football team and talk sports as long as the day. Another one of my best friends was a pretty, well, effeminate guy.

I have a problem, though, when people imply that these two people were somehow wrong for acting the way they did; why shouldn’t Jordan be a dedicated athlete, and why shouldn’t Joe have the interests that he did? They were both strong Catholics, and never hurt anybody. There’s nothing wrong with a guy being more interested in fashion and a girl being interested in athletics. That’s the way people are. And that’s coming from your stereotypical football player, so there.
Layman was responding to Nepenthe’s laughable theory on sex role identification and development. There was and IS a movement fostered by man hating misandriasts to undermine the biological basis of sex roles in order to re-engineer an androgynous society.I suggest that you read a book called The War Against Boys.Neither Layman, nor I suggested that there was anything WRONG with a person for having more predominately feminine interests(for a male)but that we recognise it for what it is-an abberation and not normative as the wishful thinkers of the world and feminists with an agenda would have it.

I did not ever suggest that. However, one third of a team is rather significant given the proportional homosexual representation in society generally,no?

Yes, rugby is a pretty gay-friendly sport in general, but unless it’s a gay league, it seems unlikely that one would feel ostracized for being straight…since they’re still in the majority.

The young lady in question was not ostracized by her team-mates, but by her coach, she alleges.

Imagine if a male coach did that: “You can run like the wind and tackle like a steam train, Mulcahy, but Gdammit, you’re just not pretty enough!”*

I never said two wrongs make a right. But I still don’t beleive this was a case of discrimination. We write off all the other cases and say that they are entitled to choose who they want to when they reject someone who is homosexual. Then the reverse is also true. It doesn’t qualify as discrimination. This is equal rights. We can’t sit by and reject the homosexual all those times and then cry “wolf” or "discrimination when it happens to us. What’s next? Are we going to sue a gay tv network for not hiring a heterosexual person. PUH-LEEZE.

Now imagine how even the nonactive homosexual person has felt since the beginning of time. This coach is entitled to pick and choose her team on whatever basis she wants. Just like we in business are allowed to not hire anyone we don’t feel like hiring.

Goofyjim, this doesn’t make alot of sense. The coach-who has a history of this type of problem-Is not the ultimate decision maker. Her employer was most likely negligent by first hiring her and secondly for allowing her to disrupt this players life. So, off to court they go. I imagine they would prefer to settle. But thats not the way the political winds in michigan universitys is blowing.

As for active and inactive homesexuals. Every human being is capable of every behavior. Thats why we are held accountable for our actions. Calling someone an inactive homosexual, is like calling them an inactive murderer. You slander them for chosing to do right.

I was making a joke, there.

“This coach is entitled to pick and choose her team on whatever basis she wants.”

She’s not. There are laws about discrimination now. And it is just to see them applied to ‘minorities’ when they’re in the wrong.

Regardless, how many excellent players have been turned away because they were homosexual? If they are excellent players they should be treated equally. We can’t have it both ways by crying discrimination while not rising to the defense of all the others. And inactive homosexual is not the same as inactive murderer. Many still identify as homosexual even though they are celibate, hence inactive.

I sense a lawsuit in CMU’s future. After all, they are a public institution and get federal money. The fact that she is straight or isn’t a good player should not play a role in this whatsoever.

This is nonsense. Or goofy if you prefer. While I don’t know of any homosexual players that were turned away. The fact that homosexuality is an abberant behavior, as I hope you view murder. Anyone who avoids it is choosing good. The same as anyone who avoids murder is choosing good. Whether one sin is worse than another is not my place to judge.
Identifying with homosexuality? This sounds like some sort of identity crisis. As I said previous. Every human being is capable of every behavior.
Were not all murderers, homosexuals or what have you. We are all sinners. What we strive for --unless we are lost-- is to choose good. How about we use thief as opposed to murderer. Perhaps that will help you. Someone who is not stealing is choosing good. Just like someone who chooses not to engage in homosexual behavior is likewise choosing good. Does that help?
