My favorite is Saint Josephine Bahkita, even though she is the patron saint of Sudan. Just last year, EWTN was showing a movie about her and at the time I didn’t want to have anything to do with the Church, but my mother insisted that I watch the movie and in order to make my mother happy I turned the TV to EWTN but still continued playing my computer game. Well, lets just say I became captivated by her and her story…long story short…I am back with the Roman Catholic Church. 🙂

The funny part is that everyone found it strange that I would pick her as my confirmation saint. I have nothing in common with her. lol
That’s a great story!

St. Peter ~ The chief of the Apostles. He was chosen by Jesus to lead, but let Him down. However, Peter eventually made good, and I love a good redemption story. It’s NEVER too late to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and do something great!
Amen. Redemption stories are my favorite. Saints like these are a reminder that all of us can and should strive to become saints in our time on earth. Thanks for this!

Without question, I would first list St. Anna (aka St. Ann). She is the Grandmother of our Lord and mother of Mary, patron of parents and grandparents, and such an important figure in salvation history. She has the love of a mother and grandmother and has shown that in my life.

Next, I would list St. Jude Thaddeus, the holy apostle and patron of hopeless cases. I would follow that closely with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, my wife’s patron saint, and St. Nicholas of Myrna. I would wrap up this list with St. John Maximovitch (aka St. John the Wonderworker). He is an Orthodox Saint, but his story is remarkable and it somewhat parallels that of St. Padre Pio.

Holy men and women of God, pray unto God for us!

I’m fairly new to all of this, so I suppose my list will grow as I become more familiar with so many great saints. But for now:
  • The Virgin Mary, who brought me to the church. Truly, I love her as another mother, and I can feel her love for me, even as I struggle with my many imperfections. There’s something about her, above all others, that tugs at my heart.
  • St. Therese of Lisieux, whose “little way” has encouraged me. Her joy is infectious and I feel encouraged by her as I work to develop my own ritual of prayer.
  • The Archangel St. Raphael, to whom I started praying about my relationship. I’ve asked him to help guide my boyfriend, and to assist me in the conversion process, so that our relationship may have a stronger foundation, just as he assisted Tobias.

I have to add a second favourite saint, there are dozens, but I’ll stick to two.

St. Ignatius of Antioch. I stumbled across saint Ignatius, while going through cancer treatment. My fear of cancer, is not death, we all must die, it is that for some, and perhaps for me, one day, cancer gives a date to our death. We see death coming, it’s shadow mars our remaining days. Reading about St. Ignatius, brought me an example of incredible strength in the face of impending death.

“Emperor Trajan persecuted the Christians and Ingnatius was arrested and transported to Rome. The journey to Rome took many months during which time Ignatius wrote six letters to the churches in the region of Antioch. He was sentenced to death in the arena where he was was devoured by lions in the amphitheatre.”

St. Ignatius’ brave march to Rome, never wavering in his faith, his ability to write epistles of comfort to others, and his refusal to deny Christ to save his life; have been a great comfort to me. When fear threatens to immobilize me I pray to him, and John Paul II, for courage.

In honor of All Saints Day, please let us know who (can be more than one), favorite Saint and why. How has that saint touched your life, was it in their writing, or example or answered prayers.
thanks!
i love all saints!! but i must say thomas more and margaret clitherow have a special place in my heart because of all the turmoil they endured.

Saint Joseph- Of workers and fathers, my namesake

Saint Jerome- Translated the Bible

Saint John of the Cross and Saint Teresa of Avila- For their works on Spirituality

Saint Francis Xavier- Missionary

Saint Francis of Assisi- How he lived is like a role model for all Catholics

And of course…

OUR LOVING MOTHER MARY!!!:D:D:D:D

St. Ignatius of Loyola - for his work within the Church regarding it’s ‘counter-reformation’.

Saint Bernadette Soubirous - Mary said to her “I am the Immaculate Conception” WOW

St Michael Archangel

St Therese of Lisieux

St’s Peter and Paul

St. David (King David)

St. Irenaeus and the ECF’s

St John

Our Lady who has been the orchestrator of my return to Jesus and put me on the path of conversion into Catholicism and brought me back into a relationship with her son and with God and the Holy Spirit.

Blessed Teresa of Calcutta who is for me the true meaning of what it means to be Christ-like

Saint Maxmillian Kolbe the brave man who stood up for the Jewish people in their hour of Darkness, was without fear in speaking truth to Power, and was devoted to our beloved Imacculata

Saint Edith Stein who was brilliant, strong minded, a modern woman with a strong grip on the pulse of her times, with incredible bravery and is a role model for personal courage and what it means to be a modern woman in a world that demands scientific answers for our Faith

Saint Monica the mother of Saint Augustine who shows us the true meaning behind the powerful prayer of a mother and the fruits of perserverance even when everyone tells you your prayers will never be answered. Because of her steadfastness and her determination we have with us today the works that have laid down the foundation of our Faith through her son. She is a woman who endured all and has been richly rewarded!

Saint Rita because she bore up under a very dark life and remained strong in faith even as it continued. She shows silent strength and the power of God to do the impossible through those whom the world has tried the hardest to break.

Saint Maria Goretti who stands for victims like me and shows us the way to love, forgiveness, inner peace, and how to be Christ-like, finding love even for those who wish us harm.

Saint Michael the Archangel because he is the ultimate defender of the Faith, the Protector of the Church, standing against Satan and all the powers of Darkness and watches after us.

Saint Francis of Assisi who showed us what it means to be Good Stewards, to love and respect this great gift in the world God has created for us and how it is to be treated and to look at it with awe and treat it as a fellow creation what with the very rocks sings Glory to God.

Saint Augustine for his brilliant logical mind, his methodical thinking, his straight way of speaking and getting across his message to generations!

Saint Aleydis the brave girl who fought terrible illness and still with the power of faith was able to honor and show the power of the Eucharist to all of us and what it means to respect the Sacraments and show that even the most simple of us can teach us the meaning of things we often take for granted in our abilities that come everyday for us and show us that in everything that we do is a miracle.

Those are a few of mine 🙂

St. Josemaria Escriva, because he brought me to the Catholic Church.

St. Joseph. I feel a personal connection in two ways. He was the patron saint of my parish growing up, he was my patron saint at Confirmation. He should be the patron saint of blended families. I admire St. Joseph, who I doubt was the feeble aged man as depicted often in Renaissance and Baroque art. It takes a vital, strong and brave man to be able to pack up the family at a moment’s notice and flee to a foreign country. St. Joseph was the head of the Holy Family who they could lean on and who provided for them; when Jesus was found in the temple at age twelve, Joseph, the dad, stands by quietly while Mary, the mom, does the talking. I always pray to him to intercede on behalf of the men in our family for the gifts they need to be successful men. I am grateful to him for all of his prayers on our behalf, and all of the protection he has afforded me and my family. When Jesus describes God in terms of our loving Father, he would have had St. Joseph as his model on earth.

The Saint I’ve had the longest/strongest relationship with is St Jude. He has been a great help through many things in life. I was introduced to him by my Mum, when I was going through some bullying in high school, we would both pray to him each night.

A lovely story to share: approximately a year ago, I was in bed one night thinking how I really need to locate my medal of him to attach to one of my bracelets. I knew it was in a little wooden box I have, with some other medals and I’d just need to rummage through a few chains and rings etc to find it. I lay there thinking about it and eventually jumped out of bed thinking it can’t wait, I wanted the medal there and then. I went to find the box, the contents inside would have been shaken all about after a recent house move, then I opened it. Lo and behold, what should be directly on top of everything, face up, clear as anything, but my medal of St Jude! 🙂

I have other favourite Saints but I’ll share stories of them later 🙂

St. Maximilian Kolbe for one reason. He had something that I have: an amateur radio license! Even though I was born shortly after he was martyred, it makes him seem very contemporary, and it tells me that a strong interest in something worldly, like electronics, doesn’t have to come between us and God.

St. Josemaria Escriva, because he brought me to the Catholic Church.
St. Josemaría Escrivá for me too. He didn’t bring me to the Church (I was born Catholic), but he does a lot to keep me focused in my spirituality.
