The Indians certainly like a lot of colour and light. Fascinating and so wonderful to see how Catholics around the world express themselves.

I was talking with one of our parishioners about this .

She is from Kerala in India , and she said that the churches are lit up on their patronal feastdays .

We are blessed in NZ to have such a wonderful Church. Although Auckland is the largest city (around 1.7 million people) Wellington has the country’s only Archdiocese and all cardinals from NZ, including the incumbent Archbishop Cardinal John Dew have been from Wellington.

We have many South Indian and Filipino immigrants in our parish. The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church has weekly Mass at the other Church in our parish. Recently NZ government initiatives have brought in many skilled hospitality workers from Kerala and other parts of South India.

Do you know what those things are on the end of each peak and around the base of the steeple? What they’re called and if they serve any practical purpose or just are ornamentation?

St Olav’s Cathedral in Trondheim in Norway .

Catholics in Norway have a new St. Olav’s Cathedral .

The old cathedral of Trondheim was no longer big enough for the growing Catholic community.

How is the Church/Faith in your neck of the woods; I tend to ask this too much but do you have much hope especially for the future, friend?
