The first Catholic church I ever stepped foot in, granted for a school field trip when I was 9:

It was founded five days before the United States declared independence from Britain on 29 June 1776 and is the oldest building still standing in San Francisco. The original adobe mission is the smaller building to the left. The larger Basilica to the right was built in 1913 after the 1906 earthquake:

“Mission Dolores” is also home to the only cemetery in San Francisco (save for the San Francisco National Cemetery in the Presidio, which is a military cemetery on federally owned land) as the city outlawed cemeteries in 1912 and exhumed thousands of the deceased, reinterring them 12 miles south of the city in Colma, CA. The Mission was spared such dishonor due to its status as a historical site:
