Well, you can’t really make that statement. We know that not everything Jesus ever said is in the Bible and that is the only place we can find His words. Maybe those who chose the writings to include had a good reason for leaving it out. Thank God for Tradition and the Magesterium though. They fill in for us what the Bible doesn’t address.
Scripture is the inspired word of God. EVERYTHING in it comes from God regardless of who utters the actual words.

I was only trying to make the point, apparently I failed, that the Bible is not our only resource.

I was agreeing with you! Our beleifs our based on three legged Pillars-Scripture, Tradition and the Magestrium. All have consitenly upheld that homesexual behavior is a grevious sin.

I was trying to make the same point you were-that the fact Jesus never condemnded it by name is irelevant.

It is a mental illness, a terrible burden & a call to celibacy. It can be over come and treated.
Its not a mental illness, it was declasified as such in the seventies.

I guess treatment would be comming to terms with being attracted to members of the same sex and for friends and family to accept that you are attracted to members of the same sex and still a person.

Tiggeriffic,

As someone who has insight into the gay community, maybe you could clarify what the gay organizations are trying to accomplish by frequently, publicly offending the Church.

Catholics aren’t doing anything to gays, yet these organizations have giant sodomy parties at places holy to us, and when they aren’t doing that they publically display pornographic images of Christ and the Saints at their other celebrations.

Why are they so mean to Christians? Why are they so intolerant of us? Why do these organizations tolerate Islam, which has the death penalty for homosexuality, but won’t tolerate Christianity, which only proposes that they have the choice to not engage in homosexual relations?

Well I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised by the responses to this post. Being a Catholic that is gay - yes I said it - a Catholic that is gay I have to agree with a lot that has been said here.

I do believe however that I am “called” to marriage but that marriage is not allowed by the church or the law for that matter:( . I am not sexually promiscious, I am tested annually for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases 👍 . To the best of my knowledge the largest increase in new HIV cases is with heterosexual females, not homosexuals - so please stop accusing us of spreading HIV.

The church has been wrong before aobut many things (Gallileo for one) and as much as I love the church, I believe the chuch’s teaching on homosexuality has some things that need to be re examined. Jesus NEVER said anything about homosexuality in all his teaching. The church’s teaching is a result of many things including its teaching about sexuality as a whole (reserved for pocreation - therefor unavailable to homosexuals). Believe me, I love God, I celebrate the Sacraments and attend mass regularly. I believe God created me this way and intends fully for me to love and experience intimate love of another human. But I also believe God intends for me to use my sexuality responsibly and not sleep around and such - just as a “heterosexual” couple is expected to do.

As with most “groups” the loudest and the most visible become the stereotype for that group. Believe me, we are not all drag queens and extravigent :doh2: . I do know some drag queens and some feminine men, but I also know many people that you would never guess are gay walking down the street, or even sitting beside you in church. So I caution you again such harsh judgements and remember the scripture to remove the plank in our own eyes before examining the splinter in someone elses.

I thank you for reading this far and have a WONDERFUL weekend!
Why do you get tested for HIV?

I’m not sure that I understand. Why do you need to be tested if you are not promiscuous? Perhaps you could define promiscuous? I’d suggest if you sleep with someone you are being promiscuous.
Promiscuous means sleeping with more than one partner. It is possible to have two committed homosexuals and therefore no transmission of diseases.

It is not a mental illness.
How about… another means by which Satan tries to draw people into sin, whom God is in fact calling to be celibate? Just suggesting a possibility.
I tend to walk the “party line” on this topic- that is, homosexual acts are wrong, homosexuality per se is not.

(Please tell me I didn’t offend anyone, please?😃 )

Per the Constitution of Political Correctness.
Political correctness is an oxymoron, and if it isn’t, it should be. When the whims of a few dictate the movement of the masses, it is not a democracy, but an autocracy.

Which is why I always say political correctness can swing both ways. I don’t follow it in either direction. I make up my own mind.

Per nothing. A homosexual orientation does not inhibit one’s ability to function whatsoever and therefore cannot be classified as a mental illness.
Summary: Recent studies show homosexuals have a substantially greater risk of suffering from a psychiatric problems than do heterosexuals. We see higher rates of suicide, depression, bulimia, antisocial personality disorder, and substance abuse. This paper highlights some new and significant considerations that reflect on the question of those mental illnesses and on their possible sources.

…core gay behavior is both potentially fatal to others, and often suicidal.

In conclusion, then, if we ask the question “Is mental illness inherent in the homosexual condition?” the answer would have to be “Further research–uncompromised by politics --should be carried out to honestly evaluate this issue.”

Why? I don’t think anyone I know personally has said something similar. What circumstance is leading you to do this?
Its not that unusual. The CDC recommends a minimum of annual testing for those at high risk for HIV, and supports annual testing for those not at high risk.
Health-care providers should subsequently test all persons likely to be at high risk for HIV at least annually. Persons likely to be at high risk include injection-drug users and their sex partners, persons who exchange sex for money or drugs, sex partners of HIV-infected persons, and MSM or heterosexual persons who themselves or whose sex partners have had more than one sex partner since their most recent HIV test.
Health-care providers should encourage patients and their prospective sex partners to be tested before initiating a new sexual relationship.
Repeat screening of persons not likely to be at high risk for HIV should be performed on the basis of clinical judgment.
cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5514a1.htm

Since its very possible to catch a sexually transmitted disease via an unfaithful spouse, annual testing isn’t a bad idea.

Oh, in the above quote MSM does not stand for Main Stream Media, but for Men who have Sex with Men. Its the preferred clinical term which covers homosexual men and men who don’t identify as homosexual but have had (or continue to have) sex with other men.

You, evidently, are capable of clear and logical thought, thus, it cannot be a mental illness on par with kleptomania, schitzophrenia, and so on…😃

What is important to remember is that God’s will is more important than our selfish desires. A gay person has control of his actions just as a straight person does, and is equally culpable for sin, where someone who is mentally ill cannot fully comprehend the consequences of their actions., and thus cannot sin in the traditional sense.

So this applies to gay behavior? It doesn’t apply to the condition. Stop the lies.

One could argue that the substance abuse, depression, etc. are results of the rejection by family and friends that some homosexuals experience, and a general feeling of being rejected by society. Using this argument deosn’t necessarily help your side.🤷
