Where have I lied?
We must tell those who only have the condition that they are okay instead of making them feel so darn miserable. It is society that contributes to these extra illnesses. I would always encourage anyone not to engage in risky behavior but I am not going to sit by and tell them they are ill just in having a homosexual attraction. That is nonsense. They are fine. It’s obvious everyone from narth just has an agenda to correct something that doesn’t need correcting. The orientation does not need to be changed.

One could argue that the substance abuse, depression, etc. are results of the rejection by family and friends that some homosexuals experience, and a general feeling of being rejected by society. Using this argument deosn’t necessarily help your side.🤷
Exactly.

Philothea, the problem with studies such as the one you cited is that they can be interpreted multiple ways. Please try to find better evidence, or else change your line of questioning.

Its not that unusual. The CDC recommends a minimum of annual testing for those at high risk for HIV, and supports annual testing for those not at high risk.
Part of why I asked is that I had forgotten or not believed that they support annual testing for low risk individuals. I was assuming they only supported it for someone with noticeable risk.

That tiggeriffic mentioned the annual testing made me wonder if he/she wished to be heard on the subject or wanted someone to listen. The reasons that he/she might be getting the annual testing could be personally stressful to her/him.

The ‘paper’ I cited was an analysis of other studies.

You are right, studies can be interpreted multiple ways. But in this highly charged climate of political correctness, those doing studies and discussions about the causes of and care for those suffering from homosexuality have been labeled homophobic and threatened with hate crimes. Therefore one needs to learn about the issue - and it needs to be more than the biased reporting of our MSM. The NARTH paper was just a quick quote to get the ball rolling of where I stand.

What would you consider ‘better evidence?’ A study that said the opposite of what I believe to be true and agreed with you?

I’m not engaged in any sexual activity so I don’t bother getting tested at all.

One can argue that NARTH has it right and the other side has the agenda.

Homosexual attraction is disordered. It is not how humans were made. We are made man and women to complement each other; sexual attraction between a man and a woman leads to the sex act which perpetuates the species. In order for men to “have sex” they have to commit sodomy. The anus is not a sex organ. But it is the cause of an infection which is incurable. To continue in this behavior is more than just risky, it is a death sentence. To maintain the attraction as acceptable in light of the disorder is ridiculous if it is in fact an illness that can be cured. No good comes from homosexuality whether one remains chaste or not. We are not meant to be attracted to someone of the same sex. Same sex attraction perverts ones view of life and of the world they live in.

I put it on the same par as diabetes or tuberculosis, an addiction to smoking or being morbidly obese. They are all symptoms of a problem that need correction for one to fully enjoy life.

I suppose you’re right about that- there really isn’t much more evidence other than studies:blush:

So should we argue on principle and on logic instead? If that’s what you want to do, let’s first define mental illness…

Well then I’ll be the first to sign up for your study. You’ll find nothing of what you mentioned associated with me. I am not bulimic, anorexic, suicidal, depressed, etc. etc. But I am homosexually attracted. Now are you really going to cram down my throat that the attraction itself is a mental illness?

But for many people, correction is impossible.

My question now is, where does homosexuality come from?

Once again totally untrue. If one is chaste there is no harm from same sex attraction.

I’ve experienced recommendations for testing that are something other than what I would expect. I’m glad no one is pressuring you to get unneeded medical tests.

From personal experience the attraction has been there so far back that I must have been born with it. I have never acted on it but it disgusts me to hear some say that it perverts my world view and prevents me from fully enjoying life.

Some people are acxtaully able to trace it back to a point where they first began to question whether or not they were straight, for others, it seems as though it is simply their cross to bear in life. Jesus never said it would be easy…

BTW, it only results in infection if one of the partners is already infected. I fneither are nothing deadly is transmitted.

About disease of any sort making it so that one cannot fully enjoy life, I don’t know. You are saying I can’t fully enjoy life. On the one hand, I wish to object to that and say that it is absurd to say that I am not enjoying the life I have been given. OTOH, we are all suffering from original sin (we will die, we suffer concupiscence, etc.). Perhaps if we did not suffer from original sin, we would find life more enjoyable. I don’t know. Just something seems not quite right. I can’t place my finger on it.

But why must we look at same sex attraction as disease? Is anyone really afraid that if they stand next to someone who experiences it that they will catch it? And is the attraction itself really curable? I have spoken to married men who still experience the attraction and acknowledge it but stay married. They never claim though to be cured of same sex attraction. They just do not act on it and instead choose to act in the opposite direction.

It is not diseased, but rather distorted, as I prefer to think of it.🤷

Oh. Now I am sorry for butting in with my answer. 😦

Hmmm… filed away for future reference.

Well now you’re beginning to sound like someone else. There is nothing distorted in who we are attracted to unless of course it is children. Then I would be concerned. I’m going to leave this thread because it is beginning to fail the catechism’s request that we treat those who are same sex attracted with dignity and respect.
