  • “For me, regulating and controlling guns is part of building a Culture of Life, of doing what we can to protect and defend human life. The easy access to guns, including assault weapons, that exists in our nation has contributed towards a Culture of Death, where human life and dignity are cheapened by the threat of violence. No law, no piece of legislation, will ever be able to protect us from every act of aggression, or from the harm that can come from an individual bent on killing. But, we must do what we can to minimize the opportunities for such acts, by limiting the easy access to guns – and, I would add, by increasing funding for programs to treat those who suffer from mental illness, especially those that might lead someone to commit mass murder.” *
-Cardinal Dolan
This makes stripping rights via majority decision a “just” law…how? We aren’t a democracy for a reason.
2265 Legitimate defense can be not only a right but a grave duty for one who is responsible for the lives of others. The defense of the common good requires that an unjust aggressor be rendered unable to cause harm. For this reason, those who legitimately hold authority also have the right to use arms to repel aggressors against the civil community entrusted to their responsibility.

There is thread for Cardinal Dolan and gun restrictions. This post is off topic, as you like to say.😉
I posted a quote of someone I look to for guidance, as I assume the other poster did. Did you miss how the quote applies to the discussion?

Seems there maybe a disagreement on interpretation. 🤷

Those rights were given by a secular government, or ‘Caesar’. Give to Caesar, give to God…

I’ve been given responsibility and authority over the protection of my wife and children…by God.

But then, I am a law abiding citizen who thinks it’s the right thing to do, to put innocent life above my own personal desires, and would gladly make those type sacrifices, which are no more than minor inconveniences, if it could even ‘possibly’ save lives.
And there it is. The supercilious sanctimony.

Thank you for sacrificing my safety and the safety of my family and the safety of countless others in your self-serving attempt to impose your political dictates onto the rest of society.

All that matters is that you feel good about yourself. See.

Yeah. You’re a Liberal through and through.

My suggestions were sincere.

So, the only way you can defend your family is with an AR15, and background checks for all sales would impede your ability to defend your family? I don’t see the logic.

I don’t agree with the label, and question your need to use them?

Oh well, as long as you were sincere, that’s different.

Why shouldn’t I have the option of an AR15? Why are you targeting them when they are a very small percentage of weaponry used in murders?

We already have background checks. How have they protected anyone so far?

Newsflash: Criminals, by definition, don’t follow the law. How will background checks stop them?

And of course you don’t agree with your label. And the fact that you “question my need to use them” only solidifies the accuracy of your Liberal status.

Your condescension and tone as a whole are somewhat insulting. Why do you feel it necessary to include such in this discussion?

It would seem that 40% of criminals purchase their guns through private sales to avoid the background checks. If that avenue was closed, it seems that percentage would decrease.

I apologize. I have been trying to have a discussion ‘Christian to Christian’, which requires charity of all involved. Is that outside the realm of reality?

The AR15 is proving extremely dangerous, to large groups of people, in the wrong hands. How many people were shot in Aurora? 64? 26 at Newtown. They fire as fast as one can pull a trigger. While 90 people is a small percentage, and 2 incidents is even smaller, they are great tragedies, in my and other people’s opinions. There are other guns that can be utilized for home defense.
