Problem is these measures are only effective if everyone does it. “Wear a mask if you want to, but I’m exercising my freedoms in this Publix today!” is a recipe for further outbreak.
Not true.

Wearing a mask isn’t a guaranteed save for anybody, but overall they reduce the transmission rate (RO) of the virus.

R0 drops even with some people not wearing masks at all, and some wearing them improperly. It will drop even if most just wear a DIY or surgical mask that doesn’t come close to N95 standards

Right. I meant that they’re less effective if only some people wear them. Obviously there is still some degree of mitigation if only some do.

One way or another the virus will run its course regardless.

I’ve been hearing about “spikes” in the number of cases but nothing about deaths. We need everyone to get this virus and we need to protect the most vulnerable.

We are seeing a sudden jump in deaths, but driven exclusively by New Jersey

Remember this hairstylist was thrown in jail:

Luther’s case is not the only controversial case Moye has presided over. A Harvard-educated judge who has served on the bench for more than 25 years, Moye, a lifelong Democrat, also tossed a lawsuit that would have disqualified more than 100 Democrats from being listed on the ballot in 2018 because the local party chairwoman failed to sign candidate applications.
In 1992, Moye was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and almost secured a federal judgeship under the Clinton administration. Since then, Moye has still worked on “numerous” Democratic campaigns throughout his career.

Extremely irresponsible policy recommended by zero public health officials and experts.
Seeking heard immunity is a known policy approach, with the caveat of flattening the curve not to overwhelm hospitals. It’s the exact strategy the US started with - protect the at risk and keep the infection rate manageable, but then they moved the goal posts.

Yes. Through vaccines. Never has it been recommended through active and deliberate transmission and infection of covid-19. If that were the case we could easily make a vaccine right now out of live virus and deliberately infect everyone who is in the low risk group. No sane public health official would recommend that. Can you imagine the lawsuits when despite being in the “low risk group” many people suffered death or permanent disability? And even if no one is the “low risk group” died, it would be impossible to quarantine them all for 14 days after their last symptoms to protect the more vulnerable.

I guess it’s time to re-open the country. The number of deaths is dwindling:

I’ve always taken it seriously.

My niece and her parents (wife’s sister) got it and were recovered (we think) in about two weeks. But, it’s a roll of the dice whether you have complications.

The US trend is solidly down on deaths, why do you say otherwise?
That is the mortality rate, not the number of deaths.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/07/10/coronavirus-live-updates-us/

The daily coronavirus death toll in the United States increased this week after months of decline, as hospitals in hot-spot states were overwhelmed with new patients.

The U.S. reported its highest single-day infections — more than 67,000 cases — on Thursday. The United States reported more than 4,200 deaths in the past seven days, and experts warn that the trend could continue to get worse.

More than 131,000 people have died from coronavirus in the United States since the pandemic began, and at more than 3.1 million confirmed cases have been reported.

Oh, all school, sports, businesses, churches, and everything have suddenly been re-opened? Wow. I did not know that. Thanks for the update.
You can go shopping. I believe many bars are open (unless you live in one of those states that has seen a dramatic re-rise of cases). Yes, you may have to wear a mask along with your shirt and shoes, but you can shop. As far as I know grocery stores haven’t closed. In many states, churches have re-opened if their executive boards/bishops/etc have approved. You can golf in most states.

Yes, people may not be able to sit their tushes on a couch all weekend watching sports. But maybe that is God’s way of telling us to go for a walk and stop being couch potatoes.

Are you getting out of your house at all?

P.S. Most schools aren’t open in July.
