Sounds like she is a part time contractor who may think she is employed with the school, but actually is not. Which would explain a lot of why the school doesn’t care what she does.

Also sounds like she is trying to get her 15 minutes of fame.

Thanks for the additional information. I had wondered what the implications of “part-time” might be. This makes much more sense.

Here is a link to a news report video and at 00:57 into the video, a student shows her (smart phone?) with the message from the principal. King5 news spoke to the principal and confirmed the statement that she gave permission to the students to share.
Also stated in the video was that the part time drama coach is not under contract and not being paid.

I don’t doubt that it is possible she said those things or that it reflects her sentiment. It’s a bit different than a public press release, though.

Still, this is another teaching moment and some good could come from the situation if the archbishop uses it as such.

Unfortunately, I believe that many would follow this Pope (or any Pope) if he did so. Especially if he were to declare such a teaching to be “Ex cathedra.” Of course, we are taught to believe that the Holy Spirit would never permit such an event…

However, it seems that, no matter what the Pope says, and no matter whether the matter belongs to the area of faith and morals or not, in the eyes of most who consider themselves faithful Catholics, he is always right…and to question is tantamount to mortal sin…especially as the declarations of any one Pope are considered precedence for those who follow…

I would hope that the school will use this to teach the students, you know, Catholicism, as in, the opposite of what the drama queen said.

Unlikely. Again, remember we’re talking about the pacific Northwest. This is not a comment on the current archbishop of Seattle, but more a comment on the reality of who is still in charge in the schools. My experience says that there will not be an attempt to teach the students what Catholicism really is.

Good grief. Someone was fired at my school because she was married to a man in a different Christian denomination. ( and we have a building full of people divorced and remarried or married to a divorced person).
 
It’s time to put our foot down and say “no.” Jesus said he came do divide, not unite. I’m praying and waiting for our Catholic leaders to stop playing nice and stand up for the Catholic religion. SSM is wrong and turning a blind eye sends the wrong message.

If the teacher is doing a good job (i.e., is a good teacher and educating students effectively), why would the school fire her? If she is in a same sex marriage, that’s her personal life and her choice.

Please be advised, there have been many things far worse than same sex marriage that have happened in our Church by clergy and blind eyes have been turned by our own Church leadership.

No, it is not just here personal choice. What you say works fine for public school, but a Catholic school cannot present role models of mortal sin. If nothing else, on a practical side, they will lose the parents that do not want their kids exposed to such garbage. A good, moral environment is one reason that parents send their kids and money to Catholic schools. I for one would take my child out. If I wanted a staff the promoted homosexuality, then I would stick with the free public school.

That is a matter of opinion. Leading kids to Hell is pretty serious in my book. Oh, and this “blind eye” statement is belied in every diocese that has taken drastic steps to stop all these “worse things”. What’s next? Bringing up the Inquisition to justify homosexuality?

Contract or not, the ***Catholic ***school, and most especially a religious sister, should care greatly about her influence over the enrolled students and prevent any possible negative impact she may have in their moral formation as a result of her actions.

Right. We cannot pretend that a teacher’s “outside life” has absolutely no bearing on things.

Indeed, the teacher made a conscious decision to make her news public. So I cannot see how one would dismiss this as merely being part of her “personal life”.

Really, such an argument only is convincing when it has to do with something a person does not find objectionable to begin with. If we swapped out “homosexual relationship” with “neo-Nazi”, I doubt many would be using the same argument. A teacher’s personal life and beliefs has a way of bleeding into the classroom.

Catholic home schooling is the solution and the future. Best choice I ever made for my kids. They are doing much better acedemicaly and my whole family is learning about our faith. I was spending a fortune on Parochial schools. They are watering down the faith like you wouldn’t believe. The teachers and staff only pretend to be Catholic.
