30,000 denominations of protestantism?

I do undestand what you guys are all saying about there really only being a couple dozen denominations. To an extent, I agree. My problem with that is, taking geography out of the question, are there so many different churches? Why not consolidate some? Why are there more than one Church of God on the same street? Why are there multiple baptist churches?

Why is it necessary to have one large building instead of two small ones? Many people prefer the smaller group. It is easier to know everyone you are at church with in small groups. In small groups there is m ore accountably, more support, less of not knowing who is sitting next to you.

Just because there are two doesn’t mean they fight with one another. Lots of churches work together for charity, events, and in my town there is a yearly service for ALL the denominations to come worship as one group. Most of them also come help with “A walk through Bethlehem” at Christmas.

I am sorry that i did not make myself clear. I could care less about the actual size of the churches themselves. I want to know where are there different KINDS of Church of God, for example, if they share the same heritage. Why are there different kinds of Baptists. There are large Catholic Parishes and small ones, but they are all Catholic. I am also not insinuating that there is conflict. I just want to know why they are divided in the first place.

I’ve caught heck about this before, but I haven’t learned any better. The Southern Baptists were formed because they supported slavery. Now, we all know how that worked out. Why have they not re-joined another Baptist body? Pride? Money? Theology? It is not that they still support the right to own slaves.

VARC << I think that if someone throws the 30000 number at a protestant then he/she should be able to name 50 denominations or else they look foolish. >>

There are at least hundreds of specific ones named in the Wikipedia article for List of Christian denominations. So naming 50 specific ones is a piece of cake. 👍 Naming 10,000 specific ones is a little more difficult. BUT… consider…

There are 9460 specifically named worldwide in the Global Christianity database online, and precisely 634 Christian denominations in the U.S.A. (as of August 2007) with ONE “Roman Catholic denomination” in the U.S.A., a couple Orthodox, a couple Anglican, and a couple of pseudo-Christian groups. For more see:

How Many Protestant Denominations Are There? Part 1
and the sequel which quotes directly from the source:
Part 2: Facts and Stats

Specifically as of 2001, there are worldwide:

22,000 independent denominations (97% of which I’ve shown are Protestant, or Anglican, not Roman Catholic or Orthodox)
along with 9000 additional total Protestant denominations.

So with the 97% of 22,000 plus the 9000 Protestant denominations, we have the 30000+ Protestant denominations number. The source, once again, is World Christian Encyclopedia (2001, 2nd edition). These Protestants and independents are broken down in this source as:

INDIES (more denoms, but less members):

5385 African independent pentecostal denoms (18,943,000 members)
3333 African neocharismatic of mixed traditions denoms (1,500,000 members)
2856 White-led charismatic denoms (17,478,000 members)

PROTESTANTS (more members, but less denoms):

396 Baptistic-Pentecostal/Keswick (49 million members)
322 Baptist denoms (48 million members)
300 Reformed/Presbyterian denoms (44 million members)
253 Lutheran denoms (61 million members)
218 Adventist denoms (11 million members)
123 Methodist denoms (23 million members)
54 United church denoms (22 million members)
24 Lutheran/Reformed united denoms (15 million members)

Do you still need the NAMES of all 9000??? OK no problem.

FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTIONS:

(1) Go to World Christian Database online
(2) SIGN IN or create an account (it’s free)
(3) Then DOWNLOAD ALL data in Excel or other format
(4) I did that and had it on my site in one giant nicely formatted HTML file until I got into a little trouble with the copyright holder, Brill of The Netherlands  Now I just provide a link to the online database. 😃

From Global Christianity Database: “Extensive data are available on 9,000 Christian denominations, 13,000 ethnolinguistic peoples, as well as data on 5,000 cities, 3,000 provinces and 238 countries.”

The “problem” with the 30,000 number (from the 2001 World Christian Encyclopedia) is how they are counting. As someone already pointed out, there are “238 Roman Catholic denominations” because they are counting 1 RC denom per country. That is probably the case with other Protestant or pseudo-Christian groups as well, but these groups do not necessarily exist in all 238 countries as the Catholic Church does.

So take that into account when you figure out the “true” number. Also take into account the people cataloging this data are evangelical Protestants themselves (specfically, Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary people).

No one has quoted more fully or more accurately from the source until I did in August 2007. You’re welcome for my hard and very honest and very accurate work. 😃 👍

VARC << So what do you say? Isn’t it time catholics abandon this attack on protestants? >>

The question from your original post. My answer is NO, Catholics do not need to abandon the 30000 “total Christian denominations number” (actually, it is now 39000+ see my article) if one is fair and accurate with the original source of the number, as I am. 👍

To sum up, the two points to keep in mind:

(1) MOST of the 33,000+ are indeed Protestants or independent Protestants, not Catholics, not Orthodox, not Anglicans, and not pseudo-Christians (or what they call “marginal” Christian groups), but Protestants or independent Protestants.

(2) The source is counting “by country” so the number might be slightly exaggerated from the “true” number of total and unique Christian denominations. For example, there are 242 total Roman Catholic denominations (because of 242 or 238 countries, this number changes slightly) where the same source admits there is really only one Roman Catholic denomination:

“As a statistical unit in this Encyclopedia, a ‘denomination’ always refers to one single country. Thus the Roman Catholic Church, although a single organization, is described here as consisting of 236 denominations in the world’s 238 countries.” (Barrett, et al, World Christian Encyclopedia, volume 1, page 27, in the “Glossary” under definition for “Denomination” [later updated to 242]

Noting those two points, the numbers from the World Christian Encyclopedia can still be used to show Christianity is definitely fragmented. The exact number is not important and will always be changing (i.e. increasing upward if trends continue).

questions:
  1. the 242 # was from a different section of that study. the 33,000 number INCLUDED 2,800 Catholic denominations. How do you feel about me insisting on using Barretts study to accurately cite 2,800 Catholic denominaitons when only 242 of them are seperate only because of regaional issues?
  2. if your point is about unity and fragmentation of protestantism, how does citing a controversial study prove your point? Are you trying to drive us protestant FARTHER away from Catholocism by being difficult on purpose?
  3. of those 2,800 Catholic denominations, why is it insignificant that they are divided by music style, style of dress etc. Yet significant when the protestant ones are divided that same way? 🤷
Catholic yell about division among Protestants BUT you have undeniable division amongst yourselves. Eastern Catholic, Orthodox Catholic, Charasmatic Catholic, Roman Catholic. So you have some things in common, so do the protestant denominations.

I’m unsure of how true or reliable the 30,000 denomination number is or how it was even calculated. When I leave my home and drive down the road I see St.James the Greater CC, Communty Fellowship Bible Church, an Episcople Church, Presbyterian Church, SDA Church, Unity Church, Community Bible Church, Methodist Church, Luthern Church, Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Little Flowers Bible Church, Church of Christ, Church of Christ Scientist, Church of Scientology, Jubilee Church, Journey Church, First Presbyterian Church, Korean Presbyterian Church, The Gathering Methodist Church, St. Luke the Evangelist CC and I know I missed a few. These are all within a 5-10 mile radius of each other. I find that very interesting. Go to their services and you will not know what to expect unless you go to the two CCs. They may all seem the same but there is still something that seperates them. It could be something like their view on end-times, predestination, alchohol use, woman pastors, music and worship style, interpretation of certain scriptures…etc. I’m sure there are some churches that are identical in doctrine, worship, beliefs…etc. But I think the chances are better for more that are different, thats why there are so many. The evidence shows that anybody can start their own church or faith community inwhich some are probably very Christ centered and heartfelt but the Authority is with them and their interpretations. That is dangerous [JW, Mormons,Radical Fundementalists, Scientology…]. I think the majority of the leaders of each independent church would claim that they have it a little more right than the others. For instance the non-denom church I attend with my wife claims to be a New Testament church authenticly worshiping and having community like those in the early church. They think they have it right on this. Great church, great people and atmosphere but a little confused on history.

What page number is the 2,800 Catholic denominations? The 33,000 includes the 242 not 2,800 if you are referring to the “megablocs.” I need to check the source again as to what you are referring to? I am referring to the totals of the “megablocs” on pages 16-18, volume 1:

Independents (about 22000)
Protestants (about 9000)
“Marginals” (about 1600)
Orthodox (781)
Roman Catholics (242)
Anglicans (168)

Add these up, and you get the 33000+. There are not 2,800 Catholic denominations. The source maintains the 242 are really one Roman Catholic organization (volume 1, page 27, in the “Glossary” under definition for “Denomination”), and that they are separating denominations by country (volume 1, ibid). The “counting by country” thing is what the problem is if you want the “true” number of “unique” denominations worldwide. I’ve already admitted that. 👍

Syele << 2. if your point is about unity and fragmentation of protestantism, how does citing a controversial study prove your point? >>

The study is not controversial to professional statisticians, since the people who compiled the book are professional statisticians themselves: David B. Barrett, George T. Kurian, Todd M. Johnson. It is only “controversial” in here because some people throw the numbers around and don’t cite the exact source, page numbers, and precise context. But I do. 😃 It is a standard work of statistics not only for Christianity, but for religions and religious movements worldwide (see volume 2 for all the non-Christian religions). From the Barrett article: "Such numbers are always debatable, but they’re the best available. ‘We don’t really have any rivals,’ Barrett says. ‘That’s the problem.’ "

Syele << 3. of those 2,800 Catholic denominations, why is it insignificant that they are divided by music style, style of dress etc. Yet significant when the protestant ones are divided that same way? >>

242, not 2800, if you mean the total 33000 number. All of the groups within the 242 are united to the Pope, unless I am mistaken. So organizationally and doctrinally, they are one. The Catholic or “Roman Catholic” groups within the 242 are listed as:

Armenian (Eastern-rite Catholic)
Bulgarian (Byzantine rite)
Byzantine-rite (jurisdiction for more than one ethnic group)
Chaldean (Eastern Syrian rite)
Coptic (Alexandrian rite)
Ethiopic (Alexandrian rite)
Greek (Byzantine rite)
Hungarian (Byzantine rite)
Italo-Albanian (Byzantine rite)
Jurisdiction for both Latin-rite and Eastern-rite Catholics
Latin-rite Catholic
Malankara (Syro-Antiochian, Eastern Syrian), Syro-Malankarese
Maronite (Syro-Antiochian, Western Syrian)
Melkite (Byzantine, Greek Catholic; Arabic-speaking)
plural Oriental (jurisdiction for several Eastern rites)
Romanian Byzantine rite
Russian (Byzantine rite)
Ruthenian (Byzantine rite)
Slovak (Byzantine rite)
Syro-Malabarese (Eastern Syrian)
Syrian, Syriac-speaking (Syro-Antiochian, West Syrian)
Ukrainian Byzantine rite

If you can give me a page number I can check the source again for your 2800. I am referring to the 2001, 2nd edition. Your main totals are on pages 16 to 18, volume 1 of World Christian Encyclopedia.

Granted, some of the Protestant and “independent” divisions are brought about by minor issues. But division organizationally for whatever reason is still division. The challenge was to “NAME THEM” (i.e. the 33000 total Christian denominations, or at least 50 of them) – I’ve named them. So has Gordon Conwell Seminary’s "World Christian Database". All we Christians need to “live” with the true number, whatever it is.

The cartoon you posted is great !!!

I second that, if the only way you can be a Christian is to be a Catholic, I will drive you to Mass myself!!
I might strike up a conversation on the way…cant blame me for that though!
Well as far as I am concerned you wouldn’t need to “drive me” to Mass, although I’m a Protestant I sometimes attend Catholic masses …
but well if one day it is very cold I wouldn’t mind you giving me a lift to a Catholic Church …
but I’m a bit far from you I assume … would you be ready to come to France just to drive me to Mass ? How kind of you !👍

I’m not a defender of the Reformation or protestantism but I often hear it thrown in protestants faces that there are 30000 different forms of their religion. I think this is unfair.
  1. I’d be hard pressed to name 20 different branches of Protestantism
  2. Even the ones I could list have the same theological beliefs even if their views on morals differ
So what do you say? Isn’t it time catholics abandon this attack on protestants?
Is this not actually an attack on Catholicism? Did it not begin with the ego of a disobedient Priest named Luther? The Catholic Church is striving to restore Christian unity, as can be seen in her work to reconcile with the Eastern Church and others.

Since any number of churches greater than one universal church is unacceptable before God, when did reporting on the fractured and wounded Body of our Lord become an “attack”? This is intended to spark some humility and introspection.

Christ’s peace.

My brother,

I do not have my own personal copy of the encyclopedia. I wish I did. but I see other sources citing it in many places, some in depth. Let’s look at this 242 more closely.

You cite 242 Catholic denominations, but that they “Are really one cause of the country thing.” by that logic, you must give the same rule to the other ones too…

Independents (about 22000) /242 = 91
Protestants (about 9000) /242 = 37
“Marginals” (about 1600) /242 = 7
Orthodox (781) /242 =3
Roman Catholics (242) /242 = 1
Anglicans (168) /242 = .6 (not in every country?)

Total ~140!

But it sounds cooler for you to tell protestants we have 33,000, I guess.

Also note that that list includes “Protestants” separate from all those others. So already there are “about 9000” or not counting countries as divisions (if Catholics get to why can’t protestants?) 37.
Syele << 2. if your point is about unity and fragmentation of protestantism, how does citing a controversial study prove your point? >>

It’s controversial among Apologists. Statisticians do not define terminology for religions. And defining Denominations like that has nothing to do with how it’s REALLY defined. While I’m at it lets consider his definition of “protestant.” He lists Protestant separate from Independents. Yet, I doubt you would. Who’s right, the statisticians or you and I? Maybe if they got some statisticians as rivals they’d be compelled to count something that actually exists instead of getting to define things willy-nilly.
Syele << 3. of those 2,800 Catholic denominations, why is it insignificant that they are divided by music style, style of dress etc. Yet significant when the protestant ones are divided that same way? >>

I believe the 2,800 quote was in Barrett’s breakdown of the 242 divisions. If I recall correctly, the definition for what constitutes “division” was even more skewed than the definition of “denominations”. If I define “catholic” to mean "people who drive down my street, I may be able to accurately count them. that wouldn’t mean it was all really catholics who drove on my street. The definitions in the whole thing are really messed up.
Eric Svendsen:
Barrett indicates in the case of Roman Catholicism that even this number(242) can be broken down further to produce 2,942 separate “denominations”—and that was only in 1970! In that same year there were only 3,294 Protestant denominations; a difference of only 352 denominations.
Granted, some of the Protestant and “independent” divisions are brought about by minor issues. But division organizationally for whatever reason is still division. If the division is still a division, then argue for unity and don’t cite statisticians as linguists.

I believe that based on this information the “true” number of Barrett defined Non-Catholics Christian denominations is around 129. not 33,000.

Hi Varc and all,

Wow 😃 God is good!!! Amen.

You may ask why I am excited.

I will be happy to tell you:)

I, a bible believing Christian who came here late last year out of curiosity and to better understand my former religion of the first 30years of my life. Little did I know last year as to the real reason I am here 🙂

Varc, I apologize in advance. If you remember me, you gave me some Godly friendly advice a couple weeks ago.
"whatisthetruth, you have got to shorten your posts. Just a friendly tip"

I will try to be as short as I can. My heart is pounding. I am witnessing God do His work right before my eyes. The best part is… you all are part of His work too, Praise God. 😃

Varc, on behalf of all the non Catholic Christian "Protestants"we want to thank you for recognizing a big problem that exists today.
Unfortnately, the same problem happens the other way too.

First things first, on behalf of all the non Catholic Christian “Protestants” we forgive you and Mannyfit75,
forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?p=3252759
and anyone else who said anything durogatory directed at “Protestants”.

And as po18guy asked,
"Is this not actually an attack on Catholicism?"
I sadly admit that I have heard and saw just as harmful durogatory comments made by non Catholic Christian “Protestants” directed at Catholics to which I offer you my personal apology and on behalf of my Non Catholic Christian brothers and sisters who caused you any hurt:( .

That said, I believe you all will be excited 😃 about what is happening here. I ask your patience, thank you.

There are a lot of posters adressing varc’s comment, “I’m not a defender of the Reformation or protestantism…there are 30000different forms of their religion”, debating the reason as to why there are so many Christian denominations.

However not many addressed the middle of Varc’s comment,
"I often hear it thrown in protestants faces"

Yes Varc I agree with you 100% when you say,

"I think this is unfair."

And I believe inchrist101 does too because he addresses another issue,

"Here’s a question to chew on. If abolishing denominations meant losing followers of Christ would that be worth it?"

Varc, I believe it is no accident that you posted this thread and I was called here by God to witness it and to let you know that there are many Christians who have similiar beliefs as I do who agree with you too and we appreciate you for taking a stand.

That said,

I have two questions for all,

**When will the attacking of each other stop?

When can we focus on and attack the real problem?**

Here is where the problem lies,

po18guy commented,

“any number of churches greater than one universal church is unacceptable before God”

We all agree the “one universal church” is the one Jesus Christ built.

However, is the church of Jesus Christ

only the Catholic Church

or

the universal catholic church who are all the believing Christians not only of Jesus Christ but also in Jesus Christ.

I believe, unless we put our differences aside and agree with each other that we have at least Jesus in our life, we will not be able to attack the real problem facing us which I addressed in

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=214964

I hope and pray from the bottom om my heart that we can all be the one Christian Family that I believe God wants us to be.

When that happens, everyone will know that,

We Are Christians By Our Love.

God bless

Once more with feeling:banghead:
THERE ARE NOT 33,000 PROTESTANT DENOMINATIONS
IT’S CREATIVE MATH
lies, damn lies, and statistics.

I have been watching people throw around ridiculous numbers on the number of protestant denominations for too long, Catholics use it because it has been used by respected Catholic Apologists, and because it is a discussion starter( kind of like breaking the ice with a hand grenade).:bigyikes:

The number is ridiculous number, and Protestants, for all your talk about thinking for yourselves, using your own reasoning and God given brains,-how could you let pass what you knew in your gut was just not right? . 😊

That number,** 33,000 Protestant denominations** comes from a single source…who either doesn’t understand the concept of Church, Denomination or communion; whose research/ record keeping is more anecdotal, eccentric collector / hobbyist than a scientist; . Whatever his story, he is really annoying the heck out of me.

Source:

He is the single source of the 33,000 number; you will not find another independent source which duplicates his numbers;
The reason they are so out of whack is because he either never knew, or decided to r
edefined the word “denomination”,to fit his style of research.

Unfortunately the mainstream media who are ignorant about all things Christian, and wouldn’t know Holy Oil from snake oil, keep using his numbers like they were gospel truth-this includes Encyclopedia Britannica, World Almanac, innumerable journalists, and not a few Catholic Apologists (who really should know better).

HERE’S THE SECRET TO THE 33,000 Protestant denominations.
He redefined the word denomination (I’m being kind, there’s another word for what he’s done, and if it was in field that depended on his research to make life and death decisions, the man would be in prison).

A denomination is defined in this Encyclopedia as an organized aggregate of worship centers or congregations of similar ecclesiastical tradition within a specific country; i.e. as an organized Christian church or tradition or religious group or community of believers, within a specific country, whose component congregations and members are called by the same denominational name in different areas, regarding themselves as one autonomous Christian church distinct from other denominations, churches and traditions. As defined here, world Christianity consists of 6 major ecclesiastico-cultural blocs, divided into 300 major ecclesiastical traditions, composed of over 33,000 distinct denominations in 238 countries, these denominations themselves being composed of over 3,400,000 worship centers, churches or congregations.”
(Barrett et al, volume 1, page 16, Table 1-5.)

So the 7 groups making up the Anglican “ecclesiastico-cultural mega-blocs”(btw, not to shabby for not bad in it’s 500 year history) are not 7 denominations;
Each individual country gets it’s own count; even if the Churches are part of a single body in communion, theologically and organizationally. If there is one in Australia and one in Bolivia, (kind of like there are Catholic Churches in many countries , each is counted separately.
So instead of 7 Anglican-type communions, there are 168.

AND THE ROMAN CATHOLICS GET THE SAME TREATMENT; if you bother to check, you would find out that you are not a the “One Holy Catholic Church” but , according to his way of accounting, the Roman Catholic Church consists of 236 denominations in the world’s 238 countries. And that number doesn’t even take into account the schismatic/dissenting groups mentioned in previous posts.

Are you beginning to see how this Math is going?
Here’s the long and short of it-

The 33,000 are subdivided into “6 major ecclesiastico-cultural mega-blocs”, and ordering them by denomination size we have the figures for the year 2000:
Code:
* Independents (about 22000)
* Protestants (about 9000)
* "Marginals" (about 1600)
* Orthodox (781)-most of which are in communion with each other
* Roman Catholics (242)
* Anglicans (168)
So the 33,000 number is from the total of these 6 mega-blocs:

22000 + 9000 + 1600 + 781 + 242 + 168 = 33,000+

From a Review by from Richard N. Ostling, Associated Press, 19 May 2001:

… Barrett has doggedly visited most of the lands in person, collecting raw material, including national census figures and United Nations data, and recruiting the 444 specialists who feed him material. Among them: Vatican missions librarian Willi Henkel and editor J. Gordon Melton of the Encyclopedia of American Religions. Barrett’s encyclopedia sought to count each human being in each religion and religious subcategory in each country as of 1900, 1970, 1990, 1995 and 2000, with projections to 2025.

I be honest with you, as an Orthodox christian I have no dog in this fight. I just think its kind of unfair to use that tactic unless you can sit down in front of me and name 30,000 denominations of protestants. I’d be shocked if anybody could list 50. The number 30,000 is calculated in such a way that even the ever so united Roman Catholic Church is broken into 230+ churches. Most unfair.

Hi

I don’t see any material and serious effort for Unity from Catholics or the Protestants etc.

This reminds me of the phenomenon mentioned in Quran about Jews and Christians:

The Holy Quran : Chapter 5: Al-Ma’idah
[5:13] And indeed Allah did take a covenant from the Children of Israel; and We raised among them twelve leaders. And Allah said, ‘Surely, I am with you, if you observe Prayer and pay the Zakaat, and believe in My Messengers and support them, and lend to Allah a goodly loan, I will remove your evils from you and admit you into Gardens beneath which streams flow. But whoso from among you disbelieves thereafter does indeed stray away from the right path.’
[5:14] So, because of their breaking of the covenant, We have cursed them and have hardened their hearts. They pervert the words from their proper places and have forgotten a good part of that with which they were exhorted. And thou wilt not cease to discover treachery on their part, except a few of them. So pardon them and show forbearance. Surely Allah loves those who do good to others.
[5:15] And from those also who say, ‘We are Christians,’ We took a covenant, but they too have forgotten a good part of that with which they were exhorted. So We have caused enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection. And Allah will soon let them know what they have been doing.
[5:16] O People of the Book! there has come to you Our Messenger who makes clear to you much of what you have kept hidden of the Book and forgives many of your faults. There has come to you indeed from Allah a Light and a clear Book.
[5:17] Thereby does Allah guide those who seek His pleasure on the paths of peace, and leads them out of every kind of darkness into light by His Will and guides them to the right path.

Please don’t mind it. Quran is not written by me, it is authored by GodAllahYHWH.** The point is that a serious effort for unity of 30000+ Christian denomination should be done**. The Catholics to redress the issues for whicn the Protestants had to protest, and the Protestants to realize that there is some goodthing in the Catholics that they are not much divided, both meagafactions must show a flexible and rational mindset for untiy to end the confusion so rampant in the Christian Religion.

I respect your religion,please.

Thanks

yo

did anyone read my post

The guy who came up with the number started counting over each time he entered a new country-50 countries with ELCA Lutheran churches in them =50 denominations, not one…
and if another 20 had LCMS Lutheran Churches, that =70 Protestant denominations (to him).
From 2 to 70.
See his Math…it’s like he’s counting each individual congregation–

THERE ARE NOT, REPEAT, NOT 33,OOO DENOMINATIONS.
THE GUY’S METHOD OF COUNTING IS DISTORTING AND INFLATING NUMBERS, YET CATHOLICS,** IN SPITE OF BEING REPEATEDLY CORRECTED, THIS LIE KEEPS GETTING RECYCLED**
I THINK THE MODERATOR WOULD AT LEAST CATCH IT BY NOW…WHAT’S UP WITH THIS???

It’s sloppy, disrespectful and drains the integrity of other “claims” that are made with the same insistence on their level of accuracy …truth and accuracy only seems to matter if it falls into the category of “Catholic” Truth.

I question why I bother trying to communicate when it seems that listening to others can be dispensed with as soon as they are pigeonholed.

It wouldn’t seem to matter if there were 3 or 33,000 denominations-one is as worthless as the next… all non catholics are generic; we all look alike, think alike, and so should be treated alike…the label allows people to be treated as less than human, less than equal…

**You are entitled to judge your doctrine as superior, but when you can no longer separate a label from a human, stop listening and treat them both with the same contempt…something is seriously wrong.
**
Each time I come here, it seems to get worse…and apologies every once in a while is more to ease your own conscience than acknowledge the wounds that have been inflicted. I appreciate your sense that something is not right here, but an occasional apologies and cool off periods may make you feel better, but does not go to the heart of the problem.

I feel like I am no longer human here, just an object to be remolded, re-educated, (all out of love and for my own good, of course)…
There is some kind of warped schedenfraude—some distorted triumph at telling someone they are tossing away the best chance of salvation-and, most likely (and that small chance seems grudgingly given at the insistence of Catholic dogma…that salvation might be possible without becoming Catholic)’
But, it will be a long shot and in spite of myself because everything about me is wrong, wrong, wrong; (and they don’t even have to bother listen…if you “don’t submit to the authority of the pope litmus test”-nothing you have to say can possibly be worth listening to).

This site is losing it’s legitimacy be called Catholic Answers…answers infer a conversation; This site is turning into a bully pulpit…why keep up the charade.
Any “hot word” like Faith, Scripture, Christian liberty, Luther, signals opposition or challenge, that gets shouted down without even giving the person the dignity of being heard. (because they have heard it all before…and it is as wrong now as it was then."
The human being behind the words only has potential value"…as a convert…and if that seems a long shot, they aren’t worth the time and effort to communicate with).

And this is only about 5-10% of the list. Where did they all come from? And if they share the same heritage and belief, why are there so many different kinds?
I could care less about size, geography or the reason that each was begun in the first place. Surely the Roman Catholic Church has worked out all the issues that gave rise to these different orders, in different eras, with various needs for reform and revival, or specific ministry.
Why have they not consolidated, rejoined one another?
Pride? Money? Theology?
Surely a Jesuit would have no problem sharing the same space with an Augustinian, or even a Dominican, and while they are at it, maybe some Carthusians could share the same space with Opus Dei.
Maybe if you can answer these questions about Roman Catholicism, you may find some insight into your questions.

I am not trying to knock Catholics, ,** honestly**, but maybe there is a correlation between the two situations; maybe the difference and ministries of these groups are due to something other than them being petty, shallow, stubborn, or deliberately schismatic.
We want the world to be simple, but just has the history that brought about the Reformation is not simple, with one side 100% right and the other 100% wrong, neither is the path of Salvation and the twists and turns that resulted in the rending of the body of Christ, and who knows, may be part of the grand scheme of things.
I mean, who would have thought a virgin mother?, a baby who was God?, and a crucifixion? and 12 wide-eyed with wonder me would bring about the reconciliation God and man.
I do not take this disunity lightly, and we all will bear the wounds and responsibility of it one way or another, if we a part of the One “True Church”, or are fortunate enough to be eating the crumbs that fall from her table;
Neither do I dare limit the ways of Grace and Mercy-
God forbid, when my own Salvation, as well as all mankind depends on it.

would you be ready to come to France just to drive me to Mass ? How kind of you !👍
If you cover my airfare and have a guest room, I will drive you to every Mass in France.

Oh, you have to pay for the gasoline too.

But I am your man!
