Experientially we see a process of sanctification. But the amazing truth that Paul teaches is that the moment I am saved I am “a new creature. Old things have passed away and ALL things have become new.”. That is not merely “positional” truth. Get this: Paul says TWICE within 4 verses (take notice when that happens) in Rom 7 “it is no longer I that sins, but sin that dwells in me.” Does that fit your theology? The “inheritance which is imperishable” is JESUS, not people. The “new birth” is not a one time event. It is an ongoing process of victory after victory. But the "new birth is a state of being; not a state of doing. That’s why we are called “Human Beings.” God created us to be this way; and because we have fallen into sin (a state of being) we need to “be born again,” we need to allow Jesus to bring us back to being a human being. “Being” as in being like Christ in all areas of our life. Do you know anyone who has done this instantly? History shows that that just does NOT happen. I think the Catholic Church would be in basic agreement to this post?
