I have heard everything from hatred to flat out misinformation and fabrication about Anglicans in these forums. I am an ex-cradle Catholic turned Anglican several years ago because of the Holy Spirit and how I have come to learn the Holy Word of God and how it has changed my life and my family. My Anglican church is vibrant and holy and has come through so very much when we split from the Episcopal church last year and joined the Diocese of Uganda. Financial support is non-existent from Uganda, but God rewards those who are faithful to him. God is great, all the time!
 
I am quite surprised that you are an Anglican, SIA. Many of the arguments you’ve been making here are anything BUT Anglican. You sound much more like an evangelical.

Do you believe you are saved from faith in Christ alone?

as Paul said, we are saved by grace through faith in Christ. I think the problems and misconceptions are what folks label as faith or works.

Anglicanism is generally very close to Catholicism with just a few very important differences. I do realize that there is a smaller movement within Anglicanism which is very Protestant in outlook, denies the sacraments and is getting more and more evangelical, and I guess you’ve hooked up with one of these ‘low church’ groups. But yeah, nothing you say is anything like what I was taught when I was a teenager going through confirmation classes in the Episcopal Church. We certainly weren’t taught to be as vociferously anti-Catholic as you appear to be, and there was great emphasis on Tradition and the sacraments.

You don’t have much in common with any of the other Anglicans who hang out here regularly, either. I cannot imagine GKC or Contarini starting a thread crowing “Luther was right!”

Thank you for your comment! We actually do recognize all sacrements. Our service is very Catholic-like but there are certain elements in our church that are more protestant than when we were still in the Episcopal church. I would though consider ourselves being low church in any sense of the meaning but also not high church either.

Ah, OK. Broad church.

I still don’t quite get why you’re so incredibly, viciously anti-Catholic. This isn’t the sixteenth century so it seems a little odd.

grace is what saves us in our faith in Christ. Faith without works is dead but the saving grace comes to us via faith as Scripture says, not faith+works.

I am sure you agree that the Holy Spirit is a Person within the Trinity and the Spirit give us Grace so then one must dismiss through faith in Christ alone is an infalible statement.

No, but in fact the evangelical wing of Anglicanism is not recent or particularly small. It’s just that in the U.S. most of the low-church evangelicals left in the late 19th century. America has plenty of other evangelical denominations, and the Episcopal Church has evolved into a “niche church” for rich high-church liberals! (OK, that’s a caricature.) In recent decades, however, more and more evangelicals (like myself) have been drawn to tradition and liturgy, and the charismatic movement has had a huge impact. So yes, evangelical Anglicanism is on the upswing recently, after about a century of being on the defensive.

When I was still Anglican, I believed in transubstantiation (as stated in the ARCIC statement on the Eucharist); I believed in all the Marian Dogmas; I made sacramental confessions regularly; I understood contraception to be profoundly sinful; abortion was murder; I prayed the Stations of the Cross and the Rosary; I venerated the relics of the Saints; I believed the Bishop of Rome to be the true head of the Church on Earth and understood my beloved Anglicanism to be a tragic (though BEAUTIFUL) and catastrophic product of Reformation madness. I considered myself to be catholic in all but obedience to the Pope.

When I read some of your posts, your anti-Catholic tone offends my Anglican and Catholic heart.
 
SIA, you seem to be a convert to Anglicanism, who has not yet fully converted from whatever Protestant niche you used to inhabit.

Evangelical Anglicans aren’t as testy as you are. At least not the ones I knew from my days with the Evangelical and Catholic Mission.
