A Mighty Fortress Is Our God! In the face of all this hatred, I am Proud to be an Anglican.

I’m sure he’s a wonderful person, but his comment was a bit over the top. Nope, I don’t know everything about Christian history. Yes, I do know there has been an evangelical movement with Anglicanism for ages. Until the appearance of SIA on this board, I was unfamiliar with aggressively anti-Catholic Anglicans and Episcopalians, in this day and time. It’s far outside of my personal experience. But we learn every day, don’t we?
He’s the first one I’ve met like that although I had a lot of contact with the non-spike wing of Anglicanism.

O.S., the word “Evangelical” here – as you are aware – was used loosely to mean “rabid anti-Catholic nut case”. Not “Evangelical,” as in preaching the word of God and holding to the evangelical counsels. Heck. Even as a Catholic, I consider myself a deep-dyed Evangelical.
My Continuing Anglican parish (pretty AC/High Church), calls itself a Catholic and evangelical parish, in the Anglican tradition.

Covers all bases.

I assumed it wasn’t being used as either of those. I assumed it was being used to mean “a particular movement within Protestantism focusing on individual conversion, personal Bible reading, etc.” This movement does have strong roots within Anglicanism. And those Anglican Evangelicals (particularly the Calvinists, which after the departure of the Methodists most of them were) were indeed very anti-Catholic. Much of what Newman meant by “Protestantism” was based on this early-19th-century Anglican Evangelicalism. Newman and his friends set out to redefine Anglicanism. And they succeeded remarkably well, though not completely. Witness of their success is the fact that when someone sounds like an early-19th-century Anglican Evangelical, people say “you don’t sound Anglican.”

A modern manifesto of the strongly low-church wing of Anglicanism is Paul Zahl’s *The Protestant Face of Anglicanism. *Much of what SIA says makes sense in terms of Zahl’s theology.

Is this manifesto as aggressively anti-Catholic the way SIA is?

Not in manner–Zahl has no reason to take such a tone. But in substance, yes. Zahl’s immediate opponents in that book are the Anglo-Catholics within our own Communion, but obviously he thinks they’re wrong precisely because they are too much like you guys! However, he tries to some extent to put his case as an argument for diversity–since his view is one aspect of historic Anglicanism, why shouldn’t it be given a voice?

No argument there. I do appreciate your taking the time to educate me on this. I obviously was not as informed of my former affiliation as I thought, which really shouldn’t be a huge surprise because I was there only because my father made me. There are few Episcopalians in my part of the world, and even fewer non-ECUSA Anglicans, and the ones I have had direct contact with sound nothing like SIA, so really, I have been speaking more from direct experience than anything else. The assistant rector of the local EC is my next-door neighbor: again, he is NOTHING like SIA is coming across.

Anyway, I’ll try to remember to not speak up on things that I have a shaky knowledge of. It always gets me in trouble. :o

“B]** have heard everything from hatred to flat out misinformation and fabrication about Anglicans in these forums. I am an ex-cradle Catholic turned Anglican several years ago because of the Holy Spirit and how I have come to learn the Holy Word of God and how it has changed my life and my family. My Anglican church is vibrant and holy and has come through so very much when we split from the Episcopal church last year and joined the Diocese of Uganda. Financial support is non-existent from Uganda, but God rewards those who are faithful to him. God is great, all the time!”

I am an ex-cradle Baptist, former pagan, Buddhist, Rosicrucian, New Thought, then evangelical Christian and because of the Holy Spirit I have come to learn the Holy Word of God and 2,000 years of Apostolic Church tradition. It has changed my life through the One, Holy Catholic, Apostolic Church and the ****Real Presence of the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. ] I, actually, checked out the Anglican/Episcopal Church prior to becoming a Catholic. The services often out-Catholic Catholic masses- the music is prettier, there is more incense, more flowers and usually stimulating sermons and the congregation is, usually better dressed but that is all window dressing. There is something missing. No, I don’t hate Anglicans- my cousin, a cradle Catholic and Catholic prep school graduate, became Anglican after she became rich!!!😃

I think of Zahl as the voice of the Dark Side. But it’s certainly an Anglican voice.

I think I got credit/blame for something I didn’t mean/intend to imply.

Oh well.

“Ein Fester Berg ist Unsere Gott”. isn’t that a piece by j.s. bach?

Bach wrote a cantata with the same title based on Luther’s hymn arrangement around the 1720’s, writing it for a Reformation festival in Leipzig. Luther wrote the music for the hymn about 200 years before that.

As a matter of Scripture, absolutely not. One must receive that grace from God (Father, Son or Holy Spirit) by faith in Jesus Christ.
For the Devil believes has faith that Christ is God but does not receive the Holy Spirit.

The rich man in the Bible had faith in Christ but he served two masters one being money. Did faith alone save him or did Jesus say it is easier for a Camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get to heaven.

What do you think Jesus meant here? Could the rich man be saved by faith alone for he truly believed in Jesus being the Savior

For his faith was not good enough and his faith did not save him.
So to believe Jesus is his Savior, and is God would still not allow the rich man into heaven.

SIA,

If your Anglican Church is vibrant and holy WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE AT THIS CATHOLIC SITE

Obviously you got a problem you are here trying to justify your leaving the One True Catholic Church, deep down in you are hurting and you are making your family hurt as well.

Why 400,000 Anglicans asking to join the Catholic Church?romancatholicblog.typepad.com/roman_catholic_blog/2007/11/400000-anglican.html

Jesus, is working in the Hearts of these Anglicans to come back home to the True Church, The Catholic Church and here you are leaving.

Sia, You say it is the Holy Spirit that took you to the Anglican Church, I don’t think so, cause why is the Holy Spirit leading the 400,000 Anglicans Back to the Catholic Church.

Where will you and your family go if the Anglicans come back HOME ?

Way to go! 👍

There’s been some absolute garbage posted round here recently.

Interesting… the “spirit” is working in meandering ways in his spiritual journey. He was born under the Holy See of Rome as a “cradle Catholic”, then was led to the “See of Canterbury” and now to the “See of Entebbe” (Uganda)???

Although I am now Catholic, I can assure you that Uganda is DEFNITELY a better place to be than ECUSA.

True. And Rome is even better!

I think you are onto something here!!
It does seem to be those folks who leave one faith for another, because of “issues” who show the greatest anger & disrespect for their former faith.
Its very sad, but it also 😦 makes sense, that this should be so.

**An OP also noticed this, a while back on another board, IIRC. **

**Maybe this happens because the convert is fitting into a new outlook on the world (& is fitting it to him), & has not “found his feet” ? **

This might be good for SIA to think about…

25 1 "Then the kingdom of heaven shall be compared to ten maidens who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. 6 But at midnight there was a cry, Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' 7 Then all those maidens rose and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise replied, Perhaps there will not be enough for us and for you; go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.' 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast; and the door was shut. 11 Afterward the other maidens came also, saying, Lord, lord, open to us.’ 12 But he replied, `Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

The parable of the ten bridesmaids from the Gospel of Matthew.:yup:

To SIA…
To slide back to the end of the line and watch people grab your spot in order to enter that narrow door is unwise. There is a possibility that you may not have the chance again to reach that door before it is shut.
Think again…
