A personal relationship with my guardian angel

While I agree that guardian angels don’t exist to be our friends, I question your view that they don’t experience emotions. Satan isn’t a guardian angel, but as a fallen angel he experiences hate and wrath. Why can’t angels experience love, devotion, and other such pious sentiments toward God?
Good question!

Me too. It would be wonderful and i could then truly see some hope.

I hope you do, all the best.

Simon

i don’t think guardian angels are interested in “personal relationships”. they are spiritual beings with no emotions who are commanded by God to perform a certain task and will obey

a simple prayer of acknowledgment and thanks is really all you need to do
No emotions? How do you explain Lucifer’s vehement denial of God’ command then?

Your theology on angels seem to be rather Islamic in nature.

Is this Cannon ? I’ve only heard these references in neo pagan you tube videos,
or Barnes and Nobel pseudo philosophy literature

where does the church teach this ?

Its not clear which post you are responding to.

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day [or night] be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

My guardian angel seems to be fated to be my greatest friend for eternity, so I want to gain a true relationship with my angel. How would I do this?
Hi Nanotwerp,

I would do like the others have already said, and read up on them as much as possible.

I personally would stay with the Catholic documents and books that are out there.

If you do search about them too on the internet, I would be careful of some of the more “New Age” websites that are out there about them.

God gave us our Guardian Angels to help us and to protect us from evil and from dangers, as well.

There have been times when mine has protected me from physical dangers while I have been driving. My husband has been protected while driving, too.

We drive a major highway all of the time, and there have been times when we/he has/have been protected from many close calls regarding accidents that have been avoided.

Could these have been cases of good driving or even good luck?

We should take ownership of our actions, good and bad, and not palm them off to the supernatural.
If there is an angel, I’m sure it wants you to be a good driver all by yourself. It probably wants you to cross roads safely, pay your taxes and survive in the workplace all by yourself (to cite just a few of the infinite things we manage without the help of angels).

Otherwise, we are left in the uncomfortable position of saying: Every time we *don’t *die, the angel is responsible for our not dying. In that case, we had better give up and just hope the angel comes good. Decision-making is dead. Caution is irrelevant.

I’m not being flippant (well, not much). As much as you believe in the angel, I’m sure the angel also believes in your ability to get some things right.

No.

I have both seen and heard angels, so I know that in these circumstances that they “did not come from me/us.”

In some instances, the situations that we avoided happened so quickly that they were not something that we would have been able to control ourselves, in my opinion.

What did they say/look like?

What did they say/look like?
Hi simon,

I have seen them looking like “apparitions,” where they have looked white in appearance.

They will often speak to me in terms of helpful commands, like when they are trying to help protect me from danger.

They will say something like, “Don’t go here,” or “Don’t go that way/street,” or something like that.

That’s interesting. I’m rather a doubter, but i like hearing about the experiences of others.

I wish i could have something like that happen to me. Mind you, i don’t go anywhere so they’d get pretty bored of me just being indoors all the time.

Hi again simon,

Oh I totally understand, about doubting. That’s o.k. This is my own personal experience, and I don’t expect others to accept it or to understand it. That’s o.k. by me. 🙂

Your second paragraph did put a smile on my face though–about you "not going anywhere and yours “getting bored with you.” 😛

I should have said doubter about most things…In God too i guess… Anyway, glad you liked the last part of my comments.

You see and hear angels? Okay. If you believe it, that’s wonderful.
So where does this leave you in terms of your life choices? The angel saved you from death or serious injury in several car accidents. Does this mean that all those who avoid accidents, thinking it was through good driving or good luck, were in fact saved by angels?

Drug-users and alcoholics, who spend possibly decades in the circular hell of addiction - are they ignored by their angels?

The whole “system” seems highly capricious and arbitrary. Some have caring angels, others have negligent angels. I suppose any “luck” is in having, by the merest chance, a diligent angel.

Otherwise, we are left to our God-given personal attributes which, I am sure, he would like us to employ on a daily basis.

Anyway, I hope you keep being protected by the angel/s. That’s a great position to be in.

Hi hansard,

Regarding life choices, I am a Catholic. It’s even posted right here when my user-page comes up. 🙂

I try and stay focused on God and His kingdom. Besides Him, that includes everything in it, including His angels and His saints. Out of His love for us, He has given them to us to help us. We only have to ask.

I will tell you what I have learned from my own time on Earth, and what I can share with you, that sometimes seems to make people rather upset about their own or others’ life experiences, and what they have seen and heard. It comes down to “why certain things are allowed to happen to us.”

I have personally learned that it is better to “keep an open mind about things,” as there is much that we don’t even know about life, and about how things operate.

What I have learned is that there are just going to be things that I am just going to not understand, and that is alright with me. It took some time for me to accept that.

Regarding some of the accidents that I was in, yes, I was injured from them, but I could have been hurt so much worse. “Why wasn’t I totally spared from these accidents, or from one of the accidents, etc.” I don’t know. That’s something that I will have to wait for the answer for, when my time comes.

I don’t know that I have heard of anybody having either “negligent angels,” regarding your comments, or that the angels would intentionally “ignore” anyone, either.

God also gives us a free will to use in life, as well. It is possible that someone was exercising that choice, too, if they wanted to, at that time. God isn’t going to force us to do something, and neither will an angel.

You will see Scriptural references to angels, if you care to reference them and read about them, too, in the Bible.

In a past thread here on CAF about angels, someone posted that EWTN had quite a few articles concerning angels, and they do, if you would like to do some more reading about them.

Here is a link to one of their articles on angels, if you would like to read it:

How is it you see them and not i?

I would rather He did force me, send a lightning strike when i have done so much wrong in my life, while i am alive, not when conveniently dead.

Read books and bios about Saints. Just read and read and develop a prayer life. Your Guardian Angel is real and you can believe it. Don’t depend on opinions on a forum. Many Saints had very close relationships with their Guardian Angel. Books about Saints give us role models to become holy by seeing how other people (Saints) achieved it.
