Hisalone, apologies accepted and I am a woman.

I believe the thread is still here on references to people who finally saw through Luther’s errors and became Catholic…let me go look.

Actually he is not ill informed. Catholics continually practice revisionist history. Anyone ( I wont do it for you) can see how the RCC has changed its stand on this issue (and others) throughout the years.
The CC has always taught, “Outside the Church there is no salvation.”

Nothing more; nothing less.

It’s been the constant teaching of the CC.

What is your pastor’s teaching on this, Hisalone?

One can and will have a relationship with the body if they have a relationship with the Head.
However one can have a relationship with the body but not the Head. By haveing that relationship does not make one “saved” nor “born again”

Logical fallacy. Thats like saying I can have a conversation with your hand, but not with you. Either you have communion between the head AND the body, or you have communion with what you THINK is the head. Yes, there are people who place drastically too much emphasis on the BODY than the head, but to separate the two is not logically possible. To follow the BODY of Christ is to follow Christ.

What does it mean to be saved or born again. Scripture is fairly clear on the subject. If someone is does not fullfill the scriptural requirements then it is not a judgement on my part. The failure is for that person not to meet the requirements that God Himself has outlined.

And you are not in any place to judge whether others are following the requirements that God gave us. Jesus told PETER to feed his sheep, yet you are not being fed by Peter’s descendants. And yet I do not judge you to have lost your salvation.

You say one cannot be a Catholic unless one believes in Jesus Christ and have accepted Him as Lord and Savior and earnestly attempt to follow Him and still remain a Catholic. Yet Catholic churches are full of these folks (Protestant churches also)

It is not possible to follow the Body without following the head, as stated above. It is possible to put too much emphasis on one over the other. To follow the Head to the exclusion of the body almost as bad as the alternative.
Why do you say I am a woman. I am not.
Everytime you pick up a rosary you are turning to Mary instead of God.
The Bible is Gods word. God places His word higher than His name.
As Luther so elequantly stated No pope nor church council has the authority of the bible.
Oh for crying out loud, how many times do we have to tell you that we are not praying to Mary as we do to God any more than you are praying to your wife (for example only), children, or friends when you ask them to pray for you. And the Rosary is a meditation on the life of Christ, a prayer of the Scriptures, and a MODE of prayer. Please listen to what Catholics say without prejudice and private interpretation of what they mean. If you do not understand what we are stating ask for clarification instead of assuming you know what we mean. This is one of the things that I find most detestable in myself, since I fall prey to it often, and these conversations allow me to see my own flaws more than those in others. I see this in the same light that I see psychology: these “debates” often say more about MY faith and beliefs than the facts I intend to display.

Anyway, thats just one mans opinion (And I am still waiting for anyone to get that little movie reference)

Again, Hisalone, what is your denomination??

Also what I covered about the construct of the church is partial and administrative. That piece I shared is basically from canon law. It regards the outward visible structure of what church is in every day life.

The life of Church is Jesus Christ Himself…and alot more to say what church is here. I was actually answering a previous thread by someone else.

Hisalone,

Also I know that you have heard repeated responses by Catholics. I am not intending to go there.

Because this is what this thread is about…people who come on to CAF with circular repeated issues, Catholics repeatedly giving you the answers, and you come across either to vent alot of negativity…which is why I am interested of knowing the source that is feeding you these biases – or you are using CAF to passive aggressively turn people away from Catholicism to save them from us, and become part of the source of your convictions.

How misery loves company…joking here!

Don’t you realize that part of your construct of faith in Jesus Christ is self-contradictory because it is also based on anti-Catholicism? You take us out, then how much of Christ do you have?..

Only in the same way that every time you log onto the CAFs and chat with one of us it is time spent away from God. :hmmm:
You know that’s a point, hon.

When we sit down at our computer desk or whatever, we usually have to ‘bow forward’ and ‘raise up our hands’. Oh NOES! Hisalone may be accidentally worshipping his COMPUTER the way we Catholics are 'accidentally worshipping idols!"

My point: These pre-Vatican II papal declarations made it clear that you had to be a card-carrying member of the RCC in order to be saved. Vatican II changed the definition of what it meant to be “Catholic”–and thereby granted RC church membership to non-Roman Catholic Christians (althoughly imperfectly joined).
LOL! Since there were no “non-Roman Catholic Christians” at the times that those documents were written, to whom do you think they were being addressed?

We also have a minister who appears to spend more time with us in circular debates than attending to his own congregation…

Piffle.
Pshaw.
Pfui!!!
[/SIGN1]

That’s baloney.
I pick up things all day and into the next, without worshipping them.
I ask for prayer from friends & loved ones all the time, too, & I am most certainly NOT worshipping them.

You’ve got a wee bee in your bonnet, laddie, and it’s going to keep buzzing in your ear until you chase it out and listen to people, instead of trumpeting your same nonsense over & over.

Hisalone:
The Bible is Gods word. God places His word higher than His name.
The Word IS God. (Check St John’s Gospel, yean; unless they’ve:rolleyes: left it out of your Bible).
Places the Bible higher than His Name? Shame on you!! The Bible depends upon God Himself for its very existence.
The very fact that you would make such a wicked, rash, & ill-advised statement, simply says to me, that you are one of those :(sad, confused people who hates Catholics more than you love Jesus Christ!

We also have a minister who appears to spend more time with us in circular debates than attending to his own congregation…
He’s a:eek::eek::eek: minister???

Heaven preserve us!!! What denomination, does anyone know? I want to be certain to stay as far from it as I can without :cool:falling into Lake Ontario!!

He says he is and spent 6 months in the Catholic seminary before the big switch to an oppositional fundamentalist church, oppositional meaning there is alot of fuel to protest Catholicism around there…he says/she says…I don’t know for sure what is true and not. Life is full of surprises.

I would like to know Hisalone’s denomination.

So much of the dialoguing on CAF seeme to be between fundameantalists - Catholic fundamentalists who believe the Church is infallible and Protestant fundamentalists who believe the Bible is infallible.
Code:
How about the millions of other Christians, both Catholic and Protestant, who believe that God alone is infallible, and that 'now we see through a glass darkly'. Personally, I think that ultimate knowledge is well beyond and above us (see Psalm 119). Many people are uncomfortable with this level of uncertainty so they embrace a rigid faith. Okay. Fine. Many of us, however, are comfortable trusting in God, seeking to follow Christ, but admitting that we don't have a monopoly on truth. We are ready to leave question marks here and there when it comes to doctrine.

One example. Mary. Was she ever virgin, always sinless, and deserves veneration, adoration, crowning, etc., as in Catholicism? Scriptures can be quoted, especially in the nativity narratives and the crucifixion narratives, that seem to elevate her. But the two other instances in the gospels where she appears almost sound as though she is not to be venerated. And if Mary is to be venerated, why does St. Paul write all those letters to the early churches, full of doctrine, and never once mention Mary?

My feeling is that Christians should be free to lean in either direction. If they want to elevate Mary above every other human being, okay with me. If they feel - like most Protestants do - that she should be honored but not venerated, okay with me, too. It's the attitude of 'my church is the only true church' that can be annoying and leads to pride, bigotry and even much worse in past history when thousands of devout people were executed because their doctrines diverged from the only acceptable ones. Even St. Thomas Aquinas favored capital punishment for heretics.

Frankly, most Catholics and Protestants I know agree with me. There's an old hymn which begins: "You go to your church and I'll go to mine, but let's walk along together...." A good summary of what I consider a proper Christian attitude that I too often find lacking here on CAF.

But I presume the human psyche of many needs the security that comes from religious surety, the notion that our group has the truth and thereby are 'spiritually' superior to those of other denominations and/or faiths. So dogmatists probably are forgiven in the long haul as long as they obey Jesus. When he was asked how to inherit eternal life - remember, the young lawyer asked him? - he cited love God and love one's neighbor. Not a word about doctrine. He illustrated his point by giving the parable of the Good Samaritan. Samaritans were heretics of their day, despised by Jews, who had different beliefs and had intermarried outside he tribe. If Jesus selected a Samaritan as an example, my conclusion would be that Jesus was far less interested in dogma than in helping one another.

I can't claim to know, but I would bet the store (if I owned one) on the anticipation that in heaven we will meet people of all sorts of faiths, even animists and probably even atheists. That's the sort of God I believe in. "God is love...." He (she) looks at our hearts and not at our church connections, doctrines, or our view of scripture. We are saved by grace through a simple faith and not by details that usually are/were beyond our control. Most people follow generally along the pathway traveled by their parents. Will God condemn us for that? I don't think so.

God bless all his children, of every creed, color and country, and forgive us for our spiritual arrogance, our trespasses, believing that we are among those with special possession of the truth. When I look at the heavens at night, my guess is that we're all still extremely ignorant. Maybe a billion or more solar systems out there. So often our God is too small.

Infallibility is the working of the Holy Spirit through those chosen to serve the Church in Christ, not a stand alone.

Again, I think Protestants are projecting individualism onto the clergy and do not know we experience the presence of Christ in our church as a body. We do not have Lone Rangers for ministers acting on their own whimsies and flesh. They are serving Christ with His message through His anointing as consecrated souls.

If you are being told that it is a sin to commit adultery, does that mean you are being “forced” to remain faithful to your wife?

I CAN find it in the Bible that adultery is a sin. I CAN NOT find it in the Bible that eating meat on Friday is a sin. In fact, I showed you a verse that says that no one should be told NOT to eat what God has provided.

God can tell us what is sin and what is not sin. God doesn’t change. Eating meat on Friday was a sin and now it is not a sin. Comparing eating meat on Fridays with adultery is like comparing apples with oranges, instead of comparing apples with apples.

edit…We are encouraged to fast, not forced. All this hate coming from you. I think you need to rethink your strategy. It sounds very uninformed.
No hate; just questions that an inquiring mind has and would like an answer.

Are you telling me that eating meat on Friday was not considered a sin in the 1950’s and 60’s?

What is bound on earth is bound in heaven.

Look at the times…it was a shared practice to honor the day the Lord died. What in the ‘h’ is so bad about that?..universally people could practice it and anyway, most people in the world traditionally have not even afford meat…so meat has been a luxury. No loss to most.

Catholics did not walk around in spiritual chains because they skipped meat on Friday’s. People could talk, work, go to entertainment, read books, stroll, work in their gardens and pretty much enjoy life. Seafood is alot healthier than meat, too.

Look at Italy. Most Catholic country and they don’t look that burdened and frowning, in bondage,

Italy has been a pretty gregarious place for over 50 years now, as well before Vatican II…like to sing, dance, eat well…They don’t call the Holy Father that English based derisive name, Pope. The Italians call him, Papa. You know, it is all about family…and finding something to celebrate every day with their families…

I am getting hungry now…pepperoni pizza anyone? So what’s the beef???
