My dad, who was Catholic - went to Catholic school his whole life - used to tell me that it’s easy to believe in God. Look at the grass. Where did the first blades of grass come from? Seeds, right? But where did that very first seed come from? (Very St Thomas Aquinas of him, by the way - I know that now

That’s faith. And it’s okay to question and to wonder and to try to figure it out. I think that’s how you get it. Because at some point you just reach a place where it CAN’T be anything else.

Do you believe smoking causes lung cancer?
If Yes, have you seen smoking causing lung cancer? As in: the smoke actually doing the DNA damage and giving rise to cancer?
We can’t do experiments on this as it is ethically wrong to subject people to a randomised trial. We rely on the EFFECTS of it to evaluate our evidence such as since smoking cessation compaigns we notice a drop in lung cancer rates.
Sometimes we believe without “seeing”. The EFFECTS of miracles that have happened in the past is overwhelming. The biggest miracle by far is Jesus resurrection. If that wasn’t true it actually takes more faith to believe that a hoax would cause people to die for this and endure persecution for 300 years.
I mean if I can give you all the means and resources you want to start a hoax religion, do you think you can get almost half the world believing in it?
