But if 80% or so of claimants to refugee status are disapproved, what is the merit in open borders? If one looks at the pictures of the caravan members, none appear ill-fed. None appear ill-clothed. Possibly some are sick, but it’s not clearly so. Obviously, none are in prison. Some have paid large sums to the coyotes to get there. They’re free to go anywhere other than into the U.S. Mexico offered to let them stay, but they didn’t want to because the U.S. has a much better economy and welfare system. Mexico, it appears, isn’t “good enough” for them.
If Jesus had moved to Rome in order to make more money than He could in Palestine, and advocated for freer access to Roman benefits, then I think we could think of this situation as a parallel. But He didn’t.
