Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says U.S. Is 'Running Concentration Camps on Our Southern Border'

Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer suggested New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez owes “every Jew on this planet an apology” after she described Southern border detention facilities as “concentration camps.”
So where is the outcry from FoxNews for the President to apologize to Prisoners of War (I like those who don’t get captured), or painting a judge as having loyalties to Mexico instead of the US because of his sur name), or calling the press the enemy of the state?

Absolutely amazing.

So we can also all agree that people shouod no longer complain about lifesitenews.com and other websites of its ilk too? It seems that they get attacked for being hyperbolic or inaccurate but we defend it elsewhere.

Let’s all remember this sort of discussion the next time someone brings up life site news OK?

No, I said kids aren’t force to live in schools without being allowed to leave. If you do not understand this, and how it differs from what you said, then perhaps there is a grammarian who could assist you.

Schools are not even a close comparison to the places kids are being detained.

No, not in the least, for me. There is simply no comparison.

Edit. Okay, one comparison, both think too much of themselves in a play to their base.

The point is the comparison of schools to concentration camps is only marginally stupider than comparing where we keep asylum seekers to the Gulag or Nazi camps. I don’t think it’s a valid comparison, but I can get their using AOC’s definition of a concentration camp.

Just seems odd to be okay with references to concentration camps and Amazon paying starvation wages ($15/hr!) but not okay with a headline from lifesitenews.com. but that’s me…

Why do Catholics in good conscience want to encourage migrants to come to the US where they face only imprisonment and death? Wouldn’t the compassionate thing be to send them to other Latin American countries, like Cuba or Venezuela, where they will be welcomed with compassion and tolerance?

It is not hyperbolic because she said “Never Again”. She knows what she is saying. An insult to the holocaust.

Some holocaust survivors have spoken, and guess what they say? Some have agreed and some have disagreed.

I believe that she just reduced the holocaust to political satire, in order to attack the opposite party.

It may be the term is a matter of rhetoric, but it probably is the most accurate term, along with detention camps. If these terms are uncomfortable, maybe they should be.
No, it’s really not. AOC is deliberately using the term “concentration camp” to conjure images of Nazi work and death camps with emaciated people clinging to the fences. She is deliberately drawing this comparison, she is not “being accurate”. If she was concerned with accuracy she would have used the term “internment camp”, as that is the only historical American association. She didn’t because she wants to tie Trump and Republicans to Nazis.

Know what a major difference is between these detention centers and internment camps or concentration camps? The people held in internment camps and concentration camps were forcibly removed from their lawful homes, had all their possessions confiscated and rights suspended. The people held in detention centers traveled hundreds of miles to turn themselves over to Border Patrol to claim “asylum”. Nobody is rounding up Hispanics to throw them in a cage.

This talk is dangerous and should be rightly condemned.

It’s not either/or. The Republican party has failed us and let itself become the Trump party. Killing unborn babies is wrong. Putting children in detention camps is wrong.
I’m sorry, there is no moral equivalence to enforcing immigration law and killing children.

Unless you were calling Obama a Nazi and warning about impending fascism in America under his administration while he was detaining children and other illegal immigrants, vilifying white police officers and generally inflaming racial tensions, then I find your concern unconvincing.

I’ve asked others before in other threads and have yet to receive a response. If detaining people illegally crashing the border and making asylum claims is immoral, what is your solution to the problem?

So far we are not allowed to separate children and place them with care providers until their parents’ situation is resolved. And we aren’t allowed to hold them with their parents. So what can we do?

Kids aren’t force to live in schools without being allowed to leave.
Kids are forced by to live wherever parents and guardians tell them, or the law mandates, without being allowed to leave.
Kids can come and go as they please with no repercussions?
Parents are even charged with not ensuring their children are in school. It’s not just kids without a voice there.

I can’t reply to everyone who responded to my earlier post at once, but I don’t really see how anyone can say that the conditions people are being detained in on the US border aren’t like concentration camps. People are being held in overcrowded conditions were they can’t stand down, apparently for days or weeks. Children have been left for multiple nights in vans after being separated from their parents. People are also dying under ICE custody, including children.

I don’t think this is just the product of Trump as an evil personality or is an unprecedented thing for the United States government to do (Obama oversaw a record number of deportations, for example), but it seems difficult to pretend that the way people are being treated isn’t inhumane.

Serious question here. I am not trying to deflect or discount your concerns.

Do you consider all refugee camps to be concentration camps? All of them are horribly nasty places, overcrowded and dangerous.

What if they are born here in the U.S.?
How many children born here in the US are held in detention centers at the border?
The last time US children were held in detention centers was during the time of the interment camps under progressive Democrat FDR.

In that sense, I totally understand. Even schools is a closer comparison than Nazi camps, though as you said, the margin of stupidity is slim.

LOL - If you look, you will note I already remarked on that remark. I am okay with calling the concentrated indefinite incarceration of children a concentration camp, because I believe it meets the definition, especially since the person who said it specifically said it was not the same as Nazi camps. As to starvation wages, that simply is not true, as no one has starved.
