"When asked how aliens could be redeemed, Father Funes referred to the Gospel parable of the lost sheep. Aliens, he speculated, could already be redeemed because they could have remained in full friendship with God, while the human race “could be precisely the lost sheep, the sinners that need the shepherd.”
As I understand it, the ‘Fall of Adam’ was universal and not peculiar to the human race. If it weren’t universal why do animals suffer and die? They didn’t disobey God.

Interesting question there, Cadellin.

Well, God did destroy humans and animals, indicating He wished He had never created them according to the flood narrative. But as for the Genesis account I would say because God closed up the Garden of Eden and guarded the entrance with flaming swords so everything banished is subjected to death from man’s sin.

Regarding the article, my impression of space as a backyard astronomer has always been this. I think the immense mind boggling distances of space and the remoteness of our galaxy and the local cluster make Aliens looking for us a bit like us looking for a grain of sand on some distant world. But I do like to dream. It is my hope that in the afterlife we are able to see all the worlds of creation and the incocievabke beauty of those planets ans starscapes…

Im not buying the life on other planets stuff.

I also find it interesting that the majority of atheists and agnostics who are so quick to denounce the reality of Jesus, God, bible etc with MUCH MORE EVIDENCE for THAT reality are so quick with barley the least questionable circumstancial evidence to want to believe or least be open that there are aliens on other planets…all the while ignoring people and miracles like Padre Pios stigmata, etc

That’s because atheism and agnosticism are each a faith and a belief system and they are searching for proof of their faith just a beilevers do. Finding alien life would be in some sense a reassurance* to atheits *that God did not create humanity uniquely.

Precisely!

In response to the statement that other animals die and yet they have no sin. Yes, this is true, but it states clearly that man is made in the image of God and it does not state this of any other creature that was created on earth. No where are the animals given eternal life in the book of genesis. It simply states that the penalty for Adam and Eve for eating of the fruit of the tree of knowledge would be death. As well, God states that Adam and Eve were told to leave the Garden of Eden so that they would not eat from the tree of life. So, in the end, neither the animals, nor Adam and Eve, end up with eternal life, just as things are with all life on earth today.

As for aliens in the universe, you must read things carefully in the Bible. I for one believe not only that there are aliens in the universe, but that God has told us about them in so many words of the Bible. For instance, in the book of Genesis God speaks of the Nephilim in Chapter six. It says, “When men began to multiply on earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of heaven saw how beautiful the daughters of man were, and so they took for their wives as many of them as they chose.”

Now read this very carefully and you will notice that it mentions the sons of heaven as a different race of beings that are separate from man. How can I think this? It is because it mentions man in general referring to the entire race of all men. In other parts of the Bible men are instead called by where they come from, for instance, the Philistines, the Israelites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites and so on. Yet also notice that the Sons of Heaven are called by where they are thought to come from and by whom. They are from heaven, yet they are called sons, in obvious reference to physical beings as Christ is called the Son of God. They would have to be physical beings in order to take wives from the daughters of man. If the Sons of Heaven came from the earth then they would be given a name by where they originated from even if it were as vague as saying they are from the east, as the Bible mentions that the Magi who followed the star were from the east.

A little while later, the book of Genesis has this to say, “At that time the Nephilim appeared on earth (as well as later*), after the sons of heaven had intercourse with the daughters of man, who bore them sons. They were the heroes of old, the men of renown.”
Notice that the Nephilim are mentioned as separate from the sons of heaven. As well, they are listed as separate from man also. But notice most importantly that it is said that they “appeared” on earth. How did they appear? As well, what is very important is the wording “(As well as later*)”. What is important about this is that the book of Genesis begins talking about the great flood as soon as this passage ends. The great flood destroyed all life on earth. So, how can the Nephilim “appear” on earth later than the great flood unless they had the ability to leave the planet and then later (after the flood) return to it? The name Nephilim also is a clue for one of the oldest possible definitions of the word Nephilim is the Babylonian meaning of “people from Orion”. Nephila is another word for Orion and of course Nephilim is the name given to the people from this place. It is extremely common for people to be called where they are from in the Bible, as we have all ready discussed. So, not only does the Bible mention one separate physical entity from man, but two, the Nephilim and the Sons of Heaven.

Add to this the fact that our own modern knowledge of God’s universe has it teeming with galaxies full of stars. Did God ever say that we were the only ones that he created that were made in his image? No, instead he mentions in Genesis chapter 3 verse 22, “See! The man has become like one of us, knowing what is good and what is bad!” God says the word us very clearly so that it must mean that others are also created that know what is good and what is bad. Is he only referring to the angels? I don’t know.

So, in conclusion, yes, I think that not only do the laws of mathematics states that others must exist in the universe, but more importantly, that God himself has informed you about some of them. Of course I could certainly be wrong and I would appreciate a priestly or more official view on the matter.

Thank you

Carl was agnostic.
Lovely, point is that he did not have “faith” interfering with his decision that aliens had not visited earth and that to believe so defied logic.

We have a statistical possibility that they exist but no proof that they do.

“When men began to multiply on earth and daughters were born to them, the sons of heaven saw how beautiful the daughters of man were, and so they took for their wives as many of them as they chose.”
The footnote to this passage (Gen 6:1-2) in the New Jerusalem Bible states that the ‘sons of heaven’ were taken to be Seth’s descendants and the ‘daughters of men’ to be those of Cain.

A careful reading of Scripture is a good thing, but we have to be careful not to read it too closely and over-interpret Scripture.

That’s one interpretation, but not the only one.

Don’t you mean ‘former atheist’; he’s dead now, so he will know of God’s existence better than any of us on this forum. 🙂
The Mormon’s have a habit of baptizing the dead into their religious beliefs. A lot of folks have objected to this practice.

It’s not any prettier when it comes from more orthodox regions of Christianity.

Let him rest in peace, okay?

I’ve always thought we’re going to be very disappointed when we eventually explore the universe and find that the aliens we’ve been concocting in our imaginations are likely no more than protozoa. Nonetheless, we will wage bloody war against our alien foes with all the disinfectant we can muster. Not quite as epic as the intergalactic wars in movies.

Yes, I’m not going to hold my breath waiting for aliens to be discovered. It may be possible, but I suspect it will be a long long time before we really know whether it is or isn’t.

Put it this way…If I were an Alien from a distant Solar System light-years away doing scientific study and reconnaissance of human life on this planet I sure as heck wouldn’t think much of the primitive ways of how human beings live and interact.

What reason would superior technologically advanced Alien sentient life-forms have as paramount interest in their minds to interact with human beings? None really unless it was to destroy humanity and conquer this planet for themselves.

If I were an Alien surveying this planet I’d list the human race as a primitive culture.

Quite frankly this goes without saying, I don’t even think humans belong amongst the stars.

There not ready. Proofs in the pudding…lack of evolution, continually at war with themselves, too selfish and arrogant, can’t even take care of there own people on their planet with vast millions starving to death.

However; lastly I will add that any sentient life with superior science and technology far beyond human capability enabling them to travel amongst the stars doesn’t necessarily mean their evolved.

This small planet earth with microbe human sentient life forms is such a puny grain a sand in comparison to the unimaginable size of the expansive Universe with vast billions of galaxies and trillions of stars and even greater still quadrillions of planets.

Humans the only sentient life forms in God’s unimaginable expansive Creation in this Universal dimension?

How arrogant we truly are in our micro smallness and intellect. Seems reasonable to me IMHO that God creating only human sentient beings in such a huge Universe would be an awful waste of space.

Why?

I guess I don’t look down as much on ‘those humans’ as you seem to do.

If there is intelligent life out there, how would we know whether or not they have Souls?
