Well. Finally the real issue emerges. We are the evil Western Catholics (remember what pope Francis had to say about that). We are not “woke”. We still have our own faith, traditions, beliefs, the Bible.
Now we have to adopt Pakemama. This will make everything great.
I’m not even Western or White. In addition, I’m fond of Shamanism and study it. And I find these actions appalling, including the summersaults being employed to excuse them.

Well, if they don’t want to talk, leave them alone.

Isolated cultures are on the way out, and their grandchildren will need to come to terms with Christendom. Unless the current push to indigenize Christendom takes hold. I pray that it does not.

To put an end to this “stealing” nonsense, was i the one who did it, i would give the owners if those statues the money it costed to make them, with the warning that the next time i would see them in a sacre place, i would do the same again, and again and again

That would be ideal. Question is, what’s the laity to do when the clergy won’t do a thing?
By clergy do you include both Cardinals Sarah and Turkson who attended the synod, neither of whom took issue with the Amazon display. And the bishops and Priests who accompanied the tribal people from the Amazon regions, Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela, Suriname, Peru, Colombia, Bolivia, Guyana and French Guiana?

If these clergy who’ve spent a lifetime ministering in tribal areas did not find any sacrilege in the display, what gives ‘the laity’ the right to dictate and destroy?

Say that to a white person. I have no time for ridiculous assertions like you’ve just made. What on earth has this to do with race? Amazing.

That is unfair. I did not use the word evil, or even imply that.

It would help to know the difference between the Andes and the Amazon. This was allegedly from the Amazonian people, not the Incan. Even in the Amazon, there is no single pagan religion, but it darn sure was Andean. The peoples are incredibly isolated there. It is only on the internet such a weird idea could gain traction and be passed around. Furthermore, if anyone wants to look up this Incan goddess, you will find that it is represented as fat, not skinny.

Studying anything can be worthwhile. Adopting it is something else entirely.

The Western metaculture has a deep love for everything foreign and exotic. In terms of knowledge, that is our great strength. In terms of faith and belief, it is our tragic flaw.

What a fascinating idea. Restitution would make it something other than theft for sure. It still would likely be criminal, perhaps vandalism, but it would make a difference. Perhaps there could be a funding movement to buy that Church some statuary?

We have no reason to assume he noticed the statue. And even if he did and chose to stay silent, it’s hardly an earth-shattering point to restate the complaint made here about the clergy doing nothing as some kind of bullet-proof point. If cardinal Sarah saw people watching porn in church and said nothing, I’d support people throwing out those Dvds into the ocean.

Taking something that’s not yours is stealing.
Out of interest who did these wooden carvings belong to. They were in a Church which is the house of God. We are the Body of the Church. Do they belong to us, then.

Genuine question, who did or do these belong to if they are placed in the house of God

I do like Cardinal Sarah and appreciate his speaking up for reverence in the Church. I can’t read his mind and haven’t heard any of his comments about this specifically. Would be interesting to hear what he thinks about this, personally.

If the issue is as serious as the Catholic laity here is making out, surely Cdl Sarah would speak up?

Jesus said if someone steals your coat, give him your cloak as well. As Catholics, we must respond, the way Jesus has taught us.

The comments I saw from the anonymous on the incident is akin to lets start taking a stand, lets take back the church, lets stop the apostasy.

My concern with the wooden carvings and other objects is that the vatican has said well they are mother earth, fertility life representations. But no one really knows what type they are. Are they commonly used representations in the Amazon, are they specific art for the Synod.

I was of the mind, its ok, they are indigenous , but if you look at indigenous issues, for example the didgeridoo, it was stated that it was used as a sacred object in the pagan worship of Corroboree. .It is now used in Spiritual Catholic music.

So why isn’t anyone stating well these were pagan mother earth carvings, now we are using them as part of Catholic worship of God , we are appropriating them

You know his Excellency Sarah said terrible things about the Synod being an Apostasy and completely wrong, right?

He did not! He was actually present at the synod.

This is nothing but ignorant white Euro/American supremacy thinking that they know better than the whole clergy of the Church.
Flagged post for more crazy insinuations of racism. Do you even know the races and origins of the members here or do you just assume anyone with an internet connection must be a White Supremacist or a Euro-American supremacist? Why even bring this into a Catholic discussion? You oughta be ashamed of your own supremacist assumptions.

Regarding stealing. It may be a sin to steal or covet thy neighbors goods, but if you look a few verses ahead of that you will see that it also says thou shalt not make graven images and worship them. Which is worse the church setting up a pagan idol (pachamama) or an individual stealing and destroying that idol? I would say that the church setting up a pagan idol in its ‘holy’ place is far worse.

The denigration of tribal cultures is well established and historical travesty. I want to know why you think that the Cardinals, Bishops and Priests from Africa and the Amazon aren’t throwing figures in the Tiber? Do you think that they just don’t get it?

I want to know how you decided our motives are Euro-American Supremacy. You don’t even know who you’re talking to. Some nerve you got. Smh.
