Just watched an intriguing documentary here that concerns the validity of Americans to file their income tax and the consequences of what happens to people who do not comply. A very open look and approach with a wide number of experts that leads to a chilling conclusion. This will be of much interest to US citizens. Well, it is Constitutional. I forget the exact amendment, but I believe in between the Prohibition amendments (one that started Prohibition and the other that repealed it), there was an amendment that gave the government the ability to tax income.

The 16th amendment is talked about in the film, apparently the problem is that it was never ratified by all the states, or the tax is strictly voluntary etc. which is why the supreme courts ruled that those who didn’t file it would not be charged. The whole debacle is quite interesting. I’m not familiar with all the details, but the doc goes into the issue and addresses the 16th quite a bit! The website states: “Are you aware the Supreme Court has ruled that the government has no authority to impose a direct unapportioned tax on the labor of the American people, and the 16th Amendment does not give the government that power?”

Heh, I dunno, but I’d highly recomend checking out the doc to find out. I’d be interested in knowing if it is so… (I’m not American, but it’s just interesting stuff) The doc runs about 1hr 50mins…

Ratification of an amendment doesn’t need all the states, just 3/4 (I believe). Currently, 37 out of 50 states would need to ratify an amendment before it becomes part of the Constitution.

Yes that is true, the documentary covers that too! There have been some very terrible incidents and they are talked about by people who lived through it. Quite scary… apparently the documentary goes on to show that it is not your fault, but that what the IRS is doing is illegal! Tax activist groups have been petitioning for them to show where the law firmly establishes that Americans MUST pay the income tax, but till today it seems they never have shown this and ignore these groups and the Supreme court rulings. Instead they try to bully and frighten people into paying them through severe police tactics. Another point raised is that ‘income’ was not defined in their code and that it would probably refer to gains and profit from a corporate point of view which is not the equivalent of your rightfully earned wages for your employment. Another interesting issue is that it seems that there is also no accountability for what happens to the money collected from the income taxes. What precisely is it all paying for or being invested in?

I think that’s exactly the case, that not even that many states ratified it! I think this is also detailed in it, can’t remember, as I’m not familiar with this stuff…

Yeah it does, right at the start of the film it gives an overview of the illegal tax and then how the job to create money was given to a small group of private individuals. The doc then begins investigating everything in depth. It lead into other areas towards the end of the film as well, such as the control of government and possible future where money and transactions will be digitized.

I just watch the film and there is no talk about the 16th not being ratified.
What it does mention is that the common labourer is not lible to pay taxes because the Supreme Court has ruled several times that capitol gains can be taxed but not labour or wages. They even spoke to the head of the IRS and asked him to show them the law but he couldnt very stange but very intriging
