And I suppose that you would agree that deporting illegal aliens but allowing them apply for legal entry via their local US Embassy under the same terms as anyone else would be a compromise too, correct?

You may not like it, but it WOULD be a compromise
Thats not a compromise because they can do that now. 😛

Amnesty is amnesty, no matter what you call it. Most people don’t support that.
Yeah amnesty is amnesty and it isn’t whats being proposed. It hasn’t been proposed since…hmmm since Ronald Reagan enacted it into law. The Dems the last few years have been for earned citizenship. That is the opposite of amnesty.

And Obama’s proposal wasn’t a compromise it didn’t change what was happening either. The Bishops would still have had to offer contraceptive and abortion coverage as part of employment.

The bill simply would have been disguised in the insurance premium.

The Bishops would still have to pay and the illegals could not remain with their families, so no compromise in either case then. 😛

Thats not true. The latest compromise expanded the religious institution exemption and they wouldn’t pay for any contraceptive services. Its through a third party. And again this is the 2nd time the administration has compromised on the original HHS mandate which to me shows a willingness to work with them.

I oppose them because they are against anything that helps minority or poor and middle class people. They are only for strengthening the power of the elite in this country.
I read this and just have to shake my head. I might not be a minority, but I just about made middle class about 5 yrs ago, and it’s been downhill ever since. If Obama is going to help me, I wish he’d hurry up and do it before it’s too late.

Ok, this is just a question. I am not a debater. I am seeking an answer that isn’t based on emotion.

If I entered a country illegally and later was found out and sent back to the States, maybe without my family, shouldn’t I bear the responsibility for what I chose to do? Even if I was trying to “have a better life” or make more money or whatever, shouldn’t I realize I amy get caught and my family torn apart because of it?
Good evening, littlenothing,

Yes.

The thing is, the archbishop is also quite right. The way we treat our illegals is ungodly. God is love, and we aren’t loving them.

God loves you,
Don

You can’t say show me cuts then move the goal posts. Again unless you haven’t paid attention to the news, the last couple of years Obama has agreed to cuts to avert government shutdowns where not one dime of revenue was raised. The sequester cuts have not one dime of revenue. Again this is undisputed fact. Show us the facts, don’t just claim them.

They don’t care about you they care about their base. The people who represent your part of their voting bloc tend to vote against their own interests. Thats my opinion.
**It is nothing to me whether they care about me personally. I care that they oppose Obama’s promoting abortion and the profanation of marriage by equating it with sexual perversion. **

He can’t make anything taxable because the GOP congress has been opposing anything that resembles a tax increase. They just passed two big ones. Everybody knows that.

I oppose them because they are against anything that helps minority or poor and middle class people. They are only for strengthening the power of the elite in this country. So you purport to believe, and perhaps do. But we figured that

Don’t hold your breath, pardner.

Smoke and mirrors. They still have to provide it in their insurance policies. These “compromises” are a sham, and the bishops have recognized that. So have the Sisters you dismissed as liars.

Reagan proposed amnesty and it passed. McCain proposed amnesty, and it didn’t. The Dems propose amnesty and it hasn’t, except to the extent Obama amnestied millions without any legislative action whatever.

Rubio proposes amnesty of a sort, but he says they’ll go to the back of the line for citizenship. No way to know if that will pass, but the Dems oppose Rubio’s plan, so it’s probably doomed too.

This thread has just become an exercise in talking points, and I need to entertain my grandson anyway.

Be of good cheer, all!

Ah, so if a third party did the deportations on behalf of the Federal government,
And if they didn’t charge the government to do so, just taking a larger tax rebate instead?

Would that would be a valid compromise?

Never did Obama agree to actual cuts. Show us where he did. Real cuts now, not reductions in high-set increases. I recall his lamenting Ryan’s “cut” in the proposed 12% increase in food stamps down to an 8% increase. Obama wouldn’t do that one, but it’s indicative.

Since I vote against abortion-promoting candidates without exception, I suppose I could be said to be within the Republican “base”, because there are never any prolife candidates on my ballot other than Republicans. But I’m certainly not “rich”.

Nor is Obama unfriendly to the truly “rich”. His targets are upper middle class people, farmers and medium business owners. When did Obama propose the correct the low tax Warren Buffett pays by eliminating the deduction for contributions to private foundations? When did he increase what Bill Gates pays? When did he propose making high-grade municipals taxable? When did he make overseas-parked earnings immediately taxable?

He didn’t do any of that, but he did give tax breaks to well off people who could afford new cars with “cash for clunkers”. He did save DeutcheBank some severe losses by pouring tax and borrowed money into AIG; money that went right back out again to counterparties. He also saved the bacon of Goldman Sachs with the money of penny-ante taxpayers like me.

I’m part of the Repub “base” because I oppose abortion. Do you oppose them for the opposite reason?
Look, Obama is a class warrior who would make any socialist propagandist proud. This man’s record is so slimy that his defenders must shut off their capacity for rational thought. He kicks Christians and Constitutionalists in the teeth at every turn, and yet many refuse to see it, or NOT see it, in the instance of the shouded crucifix at Georgetown. You would think that ALL thinking CHristians would oppose him at this juncture. But no, we defenders of the faith must battle through many people an avalanche of Obama minions who SHOULD be our natural allies. It’s maddening. 🤷 Rob
It is a flaw of human nature, I suppose, that it is the hardest thing in the world for many folks to acknowledge that they have been duped, in this case TWICE, by the most arrogant, unethical man who ever occupied the presidency. And his friendships with Ayers, Dohrn, Wright and others made it SO obvious before he was ever elected.

You can disagree with me but please try to be respectful. I won’t respond if you can’t.
But of course. However, your logic and my analogy you said you did not understand were the, except I used black instead of illegal. If one makes no sense, then neither does the other. Ergo, one is not promoting sex slavery by hiring an undocumented person to mow their lawn.

Mexico has vast resources and could be a leading country in the world, but the corruption that dominates the political and criminal eliminte has created the poor in that country, pray for an end to that.
This is a good point that is often lost in the immigration debate: the reason why Hispanics want to immigrate in the first place - which is to find a job and have opportunity, maybe a better life. Mexico has chronic corruption but if it ever got its act together could be a leading country. More pressure needs to be put on Mexico to improve its conditions and government. The conditions there are contributing to fiscal problems in border states such as California.

I have zero sympathy for anyone deported or their families.

Actions have consequences. Were I to commit crimes I would not be able to support my family from prison, why should the illegal immigrant be special in getting to flaunt laws and protect their family from their actions i.e. deportation?

Our “soul” will survive just fine, however our nation itself cannot survive unrestricted mass illegal immigration.

They recreate the corruption here, this is true.

. Were I to commit crimes I would not be able to support my family from prison, …
Yet the Lord taught, "They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

Disregarding the suffering of others* will* put our soul in jeopardy.

pnewton has addressed the commands of Christ. I wanted to also add, the same country makes abortion legal.
