Why won’t you just post a link to one of those extreme leftist/liberal web sites that detail this allegation?
Yeah! We need one from a non-biased source, like the Republican National Committee’s News Department, the White House Press Office or FOXNews.

Amazing. This is great news for conservatives! I thought after the last 3 election cycles this logical fallacy was dead and buried. From where I sit, this post proves me wrong and that’s awesome!

Btw, Fox News reported 500,000 people marched on the immigration issue? Were they wrong or did the RNC get their numbers confused? :rotfl:

Well…at least that post doesn’t deny that the Republican News Committee News Department and FOXNews aren’t very different…the White House Press Office, too, since I amended my post. 😃

I think it’s great this fallacy is still out there. Please, run that one by the American electorate again this coming cycle as well.

Oh yeah. The old government-by-tabloid myth. Oh and the wishful thinking tautology myth: say something often enough and it gets to be true.

Here’s perhaps an even more appropriate example. Tom Delay, who declares himself at just about every turn to be a man of faith, led the kill of the wage/immigration legislation in 2000 for the Mariana Islands.

The Mariana Islands (an Abramoff client) are a US commonwealth (whatever that is) and Delay went on a junket there and declared everything fine. Then he killed the legislation in the House. In the late 90’s, there was a government investigation (ours) that found accounts of forced prostitution and forced abortions. And then there is the fact that they have no minimum wage.

Where’s the implementation of faith from Mr. Delay when it comes to the Mariana Islands?
Delay’s fall didn’t make me happy as apparently is expected from a liberal, because no one doing the things he did is a cause for happiness any more than is his own consequences and fall. However, I am happy he has effectively been punished for it. Unfortunately, I get the sense he has been made a fall guy. I wonder what others getting away with what else we traded to get rid of Delay.

People think it is anti-american to be so vehemenently against some of the liars and cheats populating our government right now. But it is actually un-American not to get rid of those people. Everyone here needs to see Good Night, and Good Luck. Just timeless proof of the fact that going along with everything we hear is not American. When the Emperor has no clothes, it is time to act.

Just google “Tom Delay Mariana Islands forced abortion.”
Since when are we your research assistants? If you want to post a link, then google it yourself.

Sheesh. Unbelievable.

Geldain:
You referring to some obscure conflict in Africa? Nothing like that has happened in the US or with our allies I am aware of. Or were you referring to the US and NATO actions in Kosovo perhaps?
I’m referring to the unjust war in Iraq deterring our attention from an unfinished war in Afghanistan, actually. I’m quite certain that 3,000 souls somewhere are very thankful to us for letting the person who planned for them to die get away while we went to chase Saddam Hussein. Sure, we could stumble upon him any day now. But it could be one day too late, and we could have had him years ago. But hey, we just had to have a war in Iraq. And make a few jokes at the French along the way. It’s the American way.

Some of those are editorials. Some are not. They all are on the subject of his island getaway, however.

No FOXNews source?
heh. I skimmed most of one and posted the rest after quickly checking to make sure they were on topic. I don’t even know. They are the first six things that popped up in a google search. The point is, it is collaboration. Interesting. With so much news to keep up on, this managed to mostly get by me. I was aware he was involved in crooked financial dealings and that it caught up with him, but I missed all the details.

This is why I like the net, it’s impossible to always know what’s going on when you have your own work to do. 👍

I was being facetious. I know FOXNews would never report on this story. It makes Republicans look bad and FOXNews is not about to do anything that makes Republicans look bad.

But we digress. 😉

I know forums where we wouldn’t go 108 posts without doing that…

But yes, it is interesting. I wonder where that little line is in the brain, which at some point you cross and are comfortable with doing something like this. I also often wonder about the wives/husbands who stay silent on the transgressions by their spouses. Some of them are probably implicit in it, but as for the ones who are merely a detail in the story, what makes them rationalize what their loved ones are doing?

I’d really like to see someone tell their stories.

Or, as it’s been the last 3 election cycles, say something often enough and people stop voting for you;)

Once again, another thread has the Iraq war inserted into it even though it has nothing at all to do with the thread topic.

Don’t jump threads. If you get involved in an argument in one thread, it’s considered poor manners to restart the previous argument in the middle of an unrelated thread. Also, if the moderator closes a thread, consider the subject closed and do not begin it anew in another thread.

If you want to talk about Tom Delay–start a thread. If you want to talk about the Iraq war, start a thread (again). If you want to talk about amnesty you are in the right place;)

Why don’t you lay off people and drop the nasty attitude? I swear you post some response like this on just about every other thread you join in on. Maybe more people would engage you in debate if you weren’t so rude to them; it’s the same attitude as the people who scream everything is Bush’s fault.

This thread is off topic. Please return to the topic of the original post.

No link again?
To me “no link again?” implies that there is an expectation that you provide a link.

But this isn’t the point.

The point is that you asked us to google for you. Why did you evade that point to build a strawman?

Thekla:
Just google “Tom Delay Mariana Islands forced abortion.”
Wodupwidat? If you want us to read Tom Delay Mariana Islands, then please have the courtesy to provide the link yourself.

Why are you talking about the Mariana Islands anyway? It’s a false analogy. The topic of the thread is “Amnesty Dead For Now.”

So this compromise bill was defeated, looks like to me. In my opinion, it was a reactionary bill devoid of any vision. I believe we have to think through perimeter defence more thoroughly, while taking full economic advantage of porous borders. This is not just about illegal immigrants and outraged citizens.

Ani Ibi:

Really? I took it to be part of the ongoing back and forth between Geldain and myself. He’s perfectly capable of asking politely for a link if he really wants one.

But I do think that the Tom Delay - Mariana Islands - forced abortion/ prostitution story has a connection to the immigration debate. I think that the issue needs to be looked at from a humane standpoint and not just the business side. Mr. Delay exhibits an ability to put commerce before people and I don’t find that to be the action of someone who says he is guided by Jesus Christ.

I see that tonight Cardinal Mahoney will be leading the candlelight vigil in Los Angeles. Good for him and good for the Catholic Church for stepping out and doing the right thing. Hopefully, amnesty will be resurrected.
