You have a terrible opinion of whites in American.
You know a lot of white Americans who enjoy discussing racial violence and other racial issues? Because I don’t. Most white Americans I know like to pretend that there aren’t any racial issues in America, or that the only racial issues are those caused by extremists like the Klan.

Racial issues exist in America, and they are a serious problem.

Do you take note as much of those who enter our country illegally and have killed Americans? Or commit acts of rape? I’m not going to back this info up because this is now veering to far off topic but I know it happens and is not altogether uncommon.
What does this have to do with the atrocity that was captured on video in Minneapolis? You have gone off on a Republican counter-universe tangent here. Cuba, immigrants, rape? What?

This video seriously disturbed me. Some videos of police conduct are bad, but this one is really, really bad.

That cop was kneeling on that guy’s neck for so long, even after the guy was clearly out cold. I don’t even know why it was done in the first place—the guy was restrained and on the ground and there were several cops there. And at the end where he just kind of rolls the limp body on the stretcher…

I would warn anyone that watching this video is truly disturbing. This should not have happened and I can see no reasonable defense for what the police officers were doing.

I have said once that Catholic discussion has its own auxiliary of Godwin’s Law. All topics will eventually be about abortion. Perhaps other groups have similar issues.

Enjoy it? No. Talk about it? Yes, several.

Do you know anyone who advocates “pushing racial violence under the rug” “where it belongs”?

If so, you need better friends.

Yes. What do you think people mean when they say things like: “And that we ought to set aside this talk about institutional racism and institutional bias and when tragedies happen, which I consider any loss of life to be a tragedy. When tragedies happen, we assure the public a thorough investigation and a transparent application of the law. But again, to move away from the rhetoric of division and embrace the rhetoric of unity, I think, is the order of the day,”

That kind of sounds like someone who wants to push racial violence under the rug, and pretend it is just like all other violence.

Sounds to me like someone who doesnt see the color of ones skin, but rather their character.

I think that was MLKs dream.

Too bad there are still people who look more at color than character/actions.

I normally am supporter of law enforcement and often feel there is more to the story than what we see at first. However, after watching this video I don’t think it matters what happened before or what the rest of the story is. Mr. Floyd was murdered by that police officer and the other three stood by and let him.

Once he was restrained, in handcuffs, there was no need to keep a knee on his neck. There are many other ways to manage even a large man who is cuffed behind his back that are not even close to being lethal. Once he was cuffed he should have been stood up and placed in the police car.
Kaepernick has done nothing to actually promote a just society. He has simply divided us by disrespecting our national anthem.

Just like disgusting posts about “Trumps amerikka” do nothing but divide us and is as inflammatory as anything I have read on CAF.
Agree 100%
I know a bunch of people hope he gets a pass for this in trump’s amerikkka but I don’t think so. Same as with Arbery. The cold blooded white supremacist murder is on video.
I don’t know of anyone who would want either the cops to get a pass or the father/son due who shot Arbery. Are these people white supremacists? I can’t say. But I can say that everyone who disagrees with you assessment of what the racial issues in this country are does not make them white supremacist.

Kaepernick has done nothing to do with any of this. His “stand” was a selfish self aggrandizing act.

The victim and his family have paid the ultimate price, but Minneapolis and other cops are going to pay some of the price.
And now the city and its businesses are paying the price, too. The protests turned violent tonight. Businesses in the area are being burned and looted right now. Our local news is filled with video from inside Target as looters empty out the store and carry large-screen TVs home.

This response is just as intelligent as Kaepernick’s kneeling for the National Anthem.

You might read the thread. Someone is posting Lebron James and Colin Kaepernick on this thread. I resent the name calling here as well. I am not going to bow down to the names of Lebron James and Colin Kaepernick being used on this thread as if they are above criticism. And yes, Kaepernick hardly stands for justice to me, if he is wearing Fidel Castro t-shirts, that is an extremely oppressive system. Perhaps read what people are discussing. This seems more like an attempt to deride and censor and shame someone. Someone mentioned some ICE detention system vs. Cuba’s prisons. This was a very unfair statement.
This Catholic woman is talking to you Victoria. It’s only a few minutes. Actually this woman is talking to a big group of people at Catholic Answers Forums.
No she’s not. and again, this seems presumptive and insulting. You have no idea of my record on social justice to say such a thing… especially when one posts images of James and Kaepernick.

Let’s not forget Lebron James:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/outl...-james-didnt-need-apologize-china-nba-tweets/

Oh, Lebron James really standing up for Social Justice. Bowing down to China.

Perhaps, this strikes one as exploiting this issue to post these individual’s ideas here, like Kaepernick and James when they don’t stand for justice at all.

Don’t judge others.

Lastly, as to ICE being brought up in this thread, I don’t even know if ICE operates prisons. So, as to that being discussed, I think that is a faulty premise. Yes, they operate some sort of detention centers for those who come into our country.

Unrelated to ICE but Larry Elder tweeted this out:

There, Larry Elder said this, if one wants to talk about race, let’s talk about it fairly and with the truth.

I know this post went off topic but I’ve heard this charge a lot from Americans. Perhaps certain information about US felons, killers and rapists taking refuge in Mexico and South America, is kept from the general population. I’ve seen so many documentaries where these countries are regular hideouts for these unsavoury US criminals. You should know that bit of information.

Perhaps one could provide some information for this viewpoint. Plenty of articles have been posted right here in this forum on what some of those from outside our country have done in coming here.

Have Australians, Americans been killed in Mexico? Let’s look at all information and not some sort of skewed info.

To other news, I understand at or near the unrest in Minneapolis tonight, there was a shooting and the person died. I wonder if we will ever find out that person’s name and grieve about it and hear Kaepernick and Lebron James comment on it??

Of course. Bad people will do bad things no matter where they are. I dont know anyone would disagree with that.

The problem is we have had policies for years encouraging people, good and bad, to come to America ILLEGALLY.

I see no reason to acknowledge some rare occurrence. I would not be surprised if some obscure example exists where an Australian has fled to another country and committed a heinous act there. Do you deny this?

We are talking about a lot of crime, not some needle in a haystack.

Fugitives have long fled to Mexico and probably Canada too.

Scanning your article, I am not even seeing a reference to these “fugitives” committing a violent crime in Mexico. So, you seemed to state that American fugitives go to Mexico and commit violent crimes but your article does not seem to state that.

Articles are posted, however, in this very forum on what people from outside the USA have done here. I would urge one to possibly seek to find such articles here. I know of a story right off from the past few months but I do not feel inclined to post it.

And yes, I’m sure one can find some example of where an American commits a violent crime in South America or Mexico. Some Americans are part of the cartels apparently as far as that goes.

Businesses in the area are being burned and looted right now. O
Looting kind of belies the narrative that black men are afraid of being shot, as that is one sure way of increasing the odds or being legitimately shot and killed.

It is hard to watch the video for 6-8 minutes and hear this man pleading for his life and saying he can’t breathe. Why was it so hard for the officer not to be concerned
for this man’s well being??!! How hard would it have been for the officer to get off of him and assess him and attend to him? Why was there a need to hold his knee
on this man’s neck for such a long time? This officer seems to be guilty
of murder. Why do we still have officers like this on our streets.

No wonder the African American community is afraid of the police.

I am glad all 4 officers were fired. Why didn’t one of the other officers
intervene?

How can a judge say that this man wasn’t in danger? Is he is one of those Che Guevara t-shirt wearing types??

The police don’t seem to be anywhere in sight as mobs of looters smash and completely clean out and rob a Target store.
