That, of course, will happen, once the probable cause is in order. On sight arrests are different that ones after the fact. I will agree that hurrying the process is important. Also, after reading some of the history of these, the previous complaints should be reviewed. It is is shown this man had a history of this sort of thing, then the chief has to go.
However, none of that justifies in anyway this citywide crime spree by the criminal elements in the name of protest. These people will hinder action being taken as they take the focus off of the incident and the callous disregard of the officer’s involved and focus it upon all the rioting, arson, and robbery being committed at this time.

I would detest Kaepernick as well, will he talk about his knee and 2 men told to get on their knees and executed in cold blood? Or were they not the right color for him to comment? These people are just spreading unrest, real unrest and Antifa seems involved. Now, people are trying to agitate the situation.
There is the story of the pawnshop looter and we know, pawnshops often have guns, I have no idea about this one but the pawnshop looter apparently was shot dead.
Then, there is the news report of the woman in a wheelchair being sprayed with a fire extinguisher.
And this is America, innocent until proven guilty. Every citizen, everyone deserves a fair trial.

And what good will come of any of that? There will be another incident like this one probably before the year is up. I’m sure the protestors are aware of this. Even if that cop does end up serving time nothing will really change.

I don’t know what’s in the mind of the protesters but my best guess is they are asking for something less routine than these trials which may or may not lead to convictions. I think they want changes to the police force and policing that will ensure these things are as rare in the U.S. as they are in Europe where, despite very real racism, black people and other minorities are not routinely shot.

As much as I hate to see the looting and destruction of property maybe we should be thankful that black people aren’t taking to the streets with guns…often here on CAF there are those proclaiming their 2nd amendment right to defend themselves against oppressive government…I’m not black but I can see why they might conceive that is what they are up against in this country…

Actually in this, I think the importance of the 2nd amendment is being reinforced. People can defend their property. One’s home could be broken into, shouldn’t they be able to defend themselves?
That doesn’t mean you toss out the whole criminal justice system, it’s not perfect but it’s something and two wrongs don’t make a right.
What are we suppose to do? Have anarchy?.
There have been cases where police go to the wrong house and someone gets killed. It’s not always about color but that hardly gives others the rights to go down and burn the community down.
Justine Damond did not even do any wrongdoing at that so she wouldn’t have ewen needed a trial but a Somali-American Minneapolis officer shot her dead.

i’ve spent the last two days at home with an eye infection, and spent much of that time watching documentaries (on Amazon Prime) about Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler, and the Nazi takeover of Germany, along with a few other documentaries about various dictators in the last century. I have been interested in this subject, especially the Nazi takeover of Germany, the home of my Great-Grandfather and Great-Grandmother, since I was 12 years old (I’m 63 now).
The comparison of the Pres. Trump to these monsters is ludicrous, and the comparison of our country to Nazi Germany, Facist Italy, or Communist Russia is utterly inaccurate and ridiculous.
Prayers for George Floyd–I think he was murdered. And prayers for the city, which is being torn apart by people who have allowed themselves to become inflamed with rage and are acting out of a feeling of helplessness instead of working within legal means to bring about justice and end racism. Sadly, they are only giving haters reasons to hate more.

If “They” will blame all “blacks” for riots regardless of the cause, maybe it’s time for us to stop worrying about what “they” will say and focus on not adding our voices to the choir of concerned white people who are supposedly against racism, but still find a way to blame black people for every thing that happens in this country.

Hello my fellow white people, would you like to have a little history lesson together?
It’s 1931 in Minneapolis, MN when this photo is taken. Look at all these people! What could they be doing posing and smiling on this lawn at 46th and Columbus?
If you guessed that they were a racist mob harassing Edith and Arthur Lee, who purchased a home just a few blocks south of the neighborhood where black people were supposed to live, you are correct! The mob grew to over 4,000 violent people, who threw rocks and paint and yes, posed for this photo.
These riots lasted MONTHS — MONTHS! – and they worked. The Lees moved out in 1933.
I keep looking at this photo and thinking about the people in it. Who are their kids, grandkids, great grandkids? Do they know about this photo? This mob? Do they know how they benefitted from the pain of the Lees and families like them?
Owning property is a way that families build generational wealth, and Minneapolis did its best to make that as hard as possible for black people. Generations later, we have the lowest home ownership rate in the US and some of the worst economic disparities between black and white citizens in the United States.
Our main freeways — 35W and 94E — were deliberately build to raze black neighborhoods and physically segregate black and white neighborhoods. Generations later, you can still see the effects of this as you drive through the city. Those segregations are still in place.
Still, in Minnesota, black business owners are less likely to receive loans than less qualified white applicants.

Racism is structural, systemic, insidious. I’m a person whose family history in this city spans generations, and has received unearned generational benefits (many who used the GI bill to get a house without getting any. . . thing, . . . and several who started and ran businesses).
White people often want black people to justify or explain their anger. Don’t do that. Your approval is not needed. Your education is on you.
Instead of asking “but why are they doing this? What does this accomplish?!” Ask yourself what systems created this situation, and why you think you know the right way for oppressed people to react.
Instead of thinking you know best, try to learn what you don’t yet know.
We are steeped in biases and prejudices we aren’t even aware of. It is our job to pull them out from ourselves and one another, over and over again.
Here are some useful links to help you put this week’s riots and protests into some historical context. I say some because, uh, I’m not a historian I’m a curious person trying to learn, not a credentialed expert trying to teach.

Responding to anything with violence, in my opinion, is insidious. I don’t think anyone (at least as far as I can tell in this thread) is discounting the message the protestors are trying to send, they’re against the violent and aggressive nature of the riots that are happening.

That sounds like the criticisms made of MLK. I don’t know if you are in a position to state whether Kapernick has done anything to promote a just society. I think we have to await further developments to make any sort of assessment.
