I would detest Kaepernick as well, will he talk about his knee and 2 men told to get on their knees and executed in cold blood? Or were they not the right color for him to comment? These people are just spreading unrest, real unrest and Antifa seems involved. Now, people are trying to agitate the situation. And I am the guy who detests Kaepernick because he disrespects the flag that represents the unity that we should all have on this issue.
I think that’s precisely the problem. George Floyd didn’t get one of those, among many others. And this is America, innocent until proven guilty. Every citizen, everyone deserves a fair trial.
And what good will come of any of that? There will be another incident like this one probably before the year is up. I’m sure the protestors are aware of this. Even if that cop does end up serving time nothing will really change. The men have been fired, a criminal investigation launched and the mayor condemned this incident in the strongest terms. What more can be done?
I don’t know what’s in the mind of the protesters but my best guess is they are asking for something less routine than these trials which may or may not lead to convictions. I think they want changes to the police force and policing that will ensure these things are as rare in the U.S. as they are in Europe where, despite very real racism, black people and other minorities are not routinely shot. And what good will come of any of that?
Actually in this, I think the importance of the 2nd amendment is being reinforced. People can defend their property. One’s home could be broken into, shouldn’t they be able to defend themselves? As much as I hate to see the looting and destruction of property maybe we should be thankful that black people aren’t taking to the streets with guns…often here on CAF there are those proclaiming their 2nd amendment right to defend themselves against oppressive government…I’m not black but I can see why they might conceive that is what they are up against in this country…
That doesn’t mean you toss out the whole criminal justice system, it’s not perfect but it’s something and two wrongs don’t make a right.I think that’s precisely the problem. George Floyd didn’t get one of those, among many others.
i’ve spent the last two days at home with an eye infection, and spent much of that time watching documentaries (on Amazon Prime) about Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler, and the Nazi takeover of Germany, along with a few other documentaries about various dictators in the last century. I have been interested in this subject, especially the Nazi takeover of Germany, the home of my Great-Grandfather and Great-Grandmother, since I was 12 years old (I’m 63 now).Just like disgusting posts about “Trumps amerikka” do nothing but divide us and is as inflammatory as anything I have read on CAF.
Responding to anything with violence, in my opinion, is insidious. I don’t think anyone (at least as far as I can tell in this thread) is discounting the message the protestors are trying to send, they’re against the violent and aggressive nature of the riots that are happening.Racism is structural, systemic, insidious.
If you know the facts what were you asking? Don’t accuse me of playing word games – I addressed your question when you first made it. You just did not care for the factual answer. You don’t like a question so it’s rhetorical, therefore no answer is necessary. Your word games don’t change the facts about interracial crime.
I did not see that insinuation in the film.I was more upset over the insinuation that all white people are secretly harboring racist feelings than a fictional death.
Well, maybe when we remove some injustice we make a society more just? You appear to be quibbling. Not necessarily. Protesting unjust violence is protesting unjust violence.
Yes the nice pizzeria owner dropping n bombs out of nowhere didn’t get that message across at all.I did not see that insinuation in the film.
That sounds like the criticisms made of MLK. I don’t know if you are in a position to state whether Kapernick has done anything to promote a just society. I think we have to await further developments to make any sort of assessment.Likewise Kap has done absolutely nothing to actually promote (as in actually ADVANCE) a just society. He has further divided our country,
The owner didn’t drop any ‘n’ bombs, to my memory.Yes the nice pizzeria owner dropping n bombs out of nowhere didn’t get that message across at all.
Then you forget the final scenes. The owner didn’t drop any ‘n’ bombs, to my memory.
Maybe I do. But I checked and it appears you are in error. Then you forget the final scenes.
Its been 39 years and it is still controversial. However, it is easily Spike’s best film. I read Rosie’s autobiography and she would not speak about what she went through in the film. However, it is a pick for watching this weekend. " It’s part of the curriculum now: we received comments from high school students who watched it for class as well as remarks from some teachers. The students had a lot to say about Lee’s painful themes and arguments, which, among other things, dynamically put Ma…
