Anti-Mornonism in the email from Catholic Answers!

What is strange is that a year ago, a christian organization passed out DVD’s all over Utah and other mormon strongholds claiming that the lds religion was false. They put them on cars as these cars were parked in the church parking lot. Plus they were put on doorsteps.

It seems that it is open house on Mormons.
I get them on my car when I’m in Mass. And Chick tracts.

I guess it’s open season on catholics too;)

Perhaps so and this is why catholic answers should know better. Mormons are not the enemy of catholics. Just the opposite. Both however, suffer from conservative evangelical propaganda.

Aside from preaching that our creeds are an abomination and that we are all in apostacy, sure, Mormons aren’t the enemies of Catholics.
Both however, suffer from conservative evangelical propaganda.
The thing is, nothing in the email allegedly from CA is inaccurate. I pointed this out to another Mormon apologist and got no answer. Why is it “propaganda” to point things out that are true?

Excuse me while a take out my violin…

everything in the post is accurate so what is the problem?
Mormon proselytizing is aimed directly at Catholics and Catholics must respond. Failure to respond means acceptance of the lies spread by Mormon missionaries and would be a denial of our Faith.

And most of Joseph Smiths own Family joined them too. JS almost did as well until he asked God.
Actually, Joseph Smith applied for membership in the Methodist church after the date he claimed to have had his First Vision. The Methodists turned him down because he was known locally as a “person of low character”.

If JS really had this vision and was told to join none of the churches, why did he then go ahead and try to join one? :hmmm:

Actually this is not true. Mormon missionaries go door to door and knock on those doors to speak about the lds church. It matters not if the people are catholics or protestants or Jews etc. Mormons do not aim their missionary efforts directly at catholics.

However, the Evangelicals in South American do aim their efforts directly at catholics. Take the ‘battle’ to them. Thousands and thousands of catholics are joining the Evangelicals all over the world, especially in central and south america and in africa.

This is only my opinion of course.

Give me a break. Over 90% of the people in Latin America are Catholic. It’s obvious LDS missionaries are trying to convert Catholics there. Most of the adult converts I know in the U.S. (like my wife and my son’s in-laws) were Catholic. The reason Catholics are joining the Evangelicals at a greater rate than they are joining the Mormons is that Mormonism is easily debunked.

By the way there is a great discrepancy between the number of self-identified Mormons compared to the numbers Mormons claim in Latin America.

And thousands and thousands of Catholics are not joining the LDS church in Central and South America (for a week or two at least)?

Get real.

Here is Spencer W. Kimball speaking about the program:

homelands.org/worlds/saints.html

It is on the left-hand side of the page.
Here’s more Spencer W. Kimball:
At the October 1960 LDS Church Conference, Spencer Kimball utilized 2 Nephi 30:6 when he stated how the Indians “are fast becoming a white and delightsome people.” He said, “The [Indian] children in the home placement program in Utah are often lighter than their brothers and sisters in the hogans on the reservation” (Improvement Era, December 1960, pp. 922-3).

Man, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Why Me, you are so way out of line and blind that it is simply shocking.

You are attempting to deny Catholic and and the Catholic Church the very activity that Mormons use to spread their demonstrably false teachings.

Get a grip.

The quotation that you posted has been used and abused several times on this thread. Lets go and take some more quotations and paste them onto the thread and say: Looky here and see what he said? Of course the rest of the article is ignored.

Here’s more Spencer W. Kimball:

Paul
Why would anyone be shocked that Indian children sent to school in Utah would have lighter skins than their brothers and sisters on the reservation. My guess is that kids in Utah wouldn’t be outside in the sun as much as their brothers and sisters on the reservation.

I have yet to see such an anticatholic tract come out of the lds church directly attacking catholicism, seeking donations to fight against the catholic church.

Sorry, the email was over the top and written for shock value.

Could it be that only Catholics received it?
I didn’t - and I get all the spam from this site, so it’s not because I’m not on the list.

I still think it’s a hoax of some kind - it doesn’t have the same “tone” as the rest of what they send out.

Perhaps Why Me is concerned about this-- I find that the Mormon who wrote this is very similar to him in his viewpoints:

catholic.com/thisrock/1991/9107pcp.asp

Yes, that hysterical thing about “we are being overrun by Mormons” he is now admitting was a hoax that he wrote.

:bigyikes: Barf—

People on this forum also received the email. I have no idea why some people got it and others didn’t. Perhaps I should have checked the source but as you can see Catholic Answers is being rather silent about this thread and so, I would need to assume that they would be silent about my inquiry.

I hope that it is false. But I doubt it. The moderating team would have responded by now if it were false. That is only my opinion.

I think that fear mongering is never good. We can see from history just where fear mongering against another group can lead. But lets hope that catholic answers didn’t send it.
Why Me.

If you have a problem with the eMail, post something down in “Help! Something’s Wrong”. That seems to be the place that you can get the attention of the Mods/or Admins.

i guess sending missionaries out to everyone to tell them that all churches are wrong, their creeds an abomination, their professors corrupt and that global apostasy took all sacramental grace from the world for 1800 years and now since Joseph smith restored it everyone should become mormon and give 10% of their income to the mormon church ad raise their kids to go on missions to spread this message doesn’t count?
