you say this but JS-H specifically calls out the presbyterians and methodists and labels the creeds (the profession of our faith) as abominations!!! your scriptures are very clear in condemning our church as apostate. it is because the martyrs kept the faith and preserved the church that the apostasy could not prevail just as Jesus promised.
That was Christ’s observation not JS’s.

Con-men don’t die for the con. Con 101.
Then you are truly clueless, PaPa.

Remember Jonestown? And that is one of many recent cons, not to forget the jihadists and their ‘devotees.’

Joseph Smith was always hightailing it here and there.

Sorry, I know you think you’re ‘special,’ indeed, almost patriarchal, by belonging to a 19th century cult which fancies itself as the “Chosen People of God” complete with persecutions, exoduses, martyrdom and great personal sacrifice.

But that DOESN’T prove your religion is true.

All it proves, to paraphrase that French writer, is that every stink which fights the ventilator thinks it’s Don Quixote.

All have suffered (all our ancestors); all have made great personal sacrifices (all our ancestors); many have died so we can be here.

Give me a break:rolleyes:

Joseph Smith did not die for the con, he died because of the con.
Joseph Smith died because he was a dangerous criminal who broke the law by destroying the property of someone who was a critic of his bogus organization. He was no martyr, but instead a violent felon who died in a blaze of gunfire, armed and dangerous. He did not go meekly to his death like our Saviour, but instead, cursing and raving. Good riddance. That the mormon organization holds Joseph Smith up as some sort of “prophet” only illustrates the true poverty of this false “religion.”

And, as the PBS presentation on this episode had shown, there was not wailing, earthquakes, lightening and thunder.

Just the dumbed, glazed looks of martinets waiting for someone to step up and tell them WHAT TO DO.:hypno:

And that ol’ carpenter with the roving eye: Bring’em Young was jes the man to do it.👍

Your’e kidding, right? Recent history has plenty of examples of con-men who got caught up in their fraud and paid for it. Jim Jones, David Koresh, Jeffrey Lundgren.

Prison shoot-out with an angry mob. Ol’ Joe got off a few shots himself before he kicked it. He’s not exactly a model martyr in the Christian sense.
especially since he had to be convinced by Emma to go to Carthage instead of fleeing to Iowa. I think the word ‘coward’ or ‘cowardly’ was used in her argument.

I’m afraid you are confused. Jesus Christ himself denounced the creeds. As far as Josephs treatments of other churches he states he was fond of the Methodists and almost joined them. There are in fact accounts from numerous people in Josephs day who were shocked at the difference in Josephs preaching that he did NOT denounce other churches but instead focused on preaching the truthfulness of the restoration.

Do you have ANY idea of what you are writing???

Do you REALIZE how inane your replies are???

Jesus did NOT denounce “the creeds.” Open up some windows, thirdnep11, get some air into that stuffy space.

Holy Gaucamole!

Can’t have it both ways…Jim Jones did not drink the coolaid…he was shot by his bodyguards for his money. He was also crazy.

Muslims/Islam are true believers.

So which is it clueless? Con-man or True believer? Joseph can’t be both.

i realize you believe this but we believe that the writings of joseph smith are NOT scripture thus joseph was not quoting Christ when Joseph wrote this. have you even read it? he says he learned presbyterianism is wrong. he describes his dealings with a methodist minister. he claimed all churches were apostate. the creeds abomination. i can’t tell you how serious that is. mormon leaders have continued this practice of denouncing other churches for years. the creeds have been attacked as recently as Gordon hinkley. the “restoration” is DEPENDENT on universal complete apostasy. now if we also know what was taught in mormon temples (sectarian ministers) we can see a well established pattern. what part of the nicene creed do you believe is abominable?

Oh I see, so Catholic’s favor murder. He destroyed a press. That warrants private citizens to kill him and his brother? BTW he could have continued west, but he returned knowing he would die.
