Any teens discerning vocations?

Earlier today I realized there is a benedictine monastery just over an hour away from me. Hopefully I can go on a retreat there or at least visit to truly see if it is home.

What is Opus Dei?

Basically, a personal prelature is diocesan structure with a bishop as head that oversees Catholics. Opus Dei is the only personal prelature.

It focuses on the common priesthood and sanctity of all the faithful, and well as unwavering devotion to Christ and His Church.

Founded by St Josemaria Escriva about 90 years ago.

I’m not exactly a teen anymore lol (I’m 19 and in university), but I am discerning, from time to time, a consecrated vocation, possibly to the jesuits.

I spoke to my spiritual director and decided to try to begin and finish my secular career (environmental engineering) before going to any seminary or “meet and greet”. That’s difficult enough for now 🤣

If anything, God will change my plan if and when He wants to, as He always does.

In the meantime, I am part of a lay movement in my country (Movimiento Puente) and I love it. This year was my first as part of a retreat’s team.

I am younger than you. Turning 16 this Sunday. I get to attend Mass celebrated by my Cardinal-Archbishop on my birthday. What a blessing!

I think everyone here is baptised and confirmed except for @amazingcatholic who has to wait until he/she is older until they are allowed to become Catholic.

It would be pretty amazing to meet up with other CAFers in real life. I don’t think that will happen anytime soon though. I don’t live in the US though, so it seems unlikely as most CAFers are American.

I turned 15 a month and a half ago. 😀 Not like it’s a competition for who has the least years in life.

Teen here discerning not a vocation, but the right time to join the Catholic Church. I fully believe in all the Church teaches, but I am not sure how to approach my parents about finally converting. Turning 17 in Feb so hopefully that might be a turning point.

I will pray for you. I know how hard is it to tell family about your conversion. When I told my parents, it actually was not as bad as I thought it would be. Even if your parents are unhappy, you have support here. Just try to be gentle and understanding with your parents. I know it is hard, but you can do it. I struggle with trying to understand my parents because their beliefs make me so mad, but in the long-run it will help your relationship.

It’s so inspiring to see so many teens here who are also converts!

Converts are the very special ones, I know quite a few who converted and they are very devout. Makes cradle Catholics, like me, look like heathens 😉

In a sense, God loved cradle catholics very much to never allow them to fall or to be led astray. Especially ones that are truly appreciative.

My parents were kind of like, “You can be Catholic, but we are not so you have to find someone to drive you.” Now they just drive me though because they don’t much want someone driving their kid and they don’t go to church often anyways.

There’s a Mexican immigrant Catholic mission I can walk to actually. I just need my parents’ permission.
