Hey, I am a teen discerning too. I’ve felt called to the diocesan priesthood for a long time but recently the religious priesthood has come to mind. I don’t know where God is calling me yet.

That is awesome! My advice is to spend time in Eucharistic Adoration. I am thinking about becoming a nun.

That’s great! We don’t have adoration around here 😔. But I visit the Church pretty often to pray in front of the Tabernacle.

I am a cradle Catholic. My mom is Catholic but my dad is an Evangelical Protestant. How about you?

Recent convert. But I converted because my vocation. All my relatives are basically protestant. My Grandparents are Lutheran, and they are basically the ones that gave me the green card to be catholic, as my dad seemed to have a lot of misconceptions about it at first.

So you converted because you felt called to be a monk? Wow! That’s pretty awesome faith in God and your vocation especially being surrounded by Protestants. How did you know God was calling you to be a monk? How did it start?

How did you discern that God might be calling you to Opus Dei? How did that calling start?

I am in my very early stages of vocational discernment.

It seems like a vocation that might best fit my calling.

Only God will lead the way.

I’m turning 18 and I’ve been discerning religious life for almost a year. I don’t know if I’m called to it or not, but I don’t seem to shake it off my mind.

What part of Opus Dei do you like the most? I really like St. Josemaria Escriva, but I don’t know much about the order

@Kima That’s awesome! Do you have Adoration anywhere close to you? Adoration is a huge help in discernment! It’s awesome that you’re open to God’s calling in your life!

@TotallyCatholicTeen I´ve had a hard time with the people in my nearest parish, so I go to another one which is about 45 mins away. I haven´t got my drivers licence yet, so it´s kinda impractical. However, I get there for Mass at least every Sunday & I try to go to youth group with Mass and adoration on Thursdays when I have time. I also find adoration very much beneficial to my prayerlife in general.

I´ve been to a couple of retreats last year, one at a Franciscan friary and another one with contemplative Domincian sisters. I discerned then that I´m not called to monasticism as it makes me feel empty and lost - which is the contrary of God, Whom brings peace and joy. So, I´m currently discerning apostolic communities, and I´m very interested in the order of Sisters for Life, as well as the Sisters of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. The issue is that I live in Norway, which is pretty far from the Sisters of Life, which is the community I feel most attracted to.

Read “To Save a Thousand Souls” by Fr. Brett Brannon. It explains the 4 stages of discernment. Also answers a lot of the usual questions.
