Anybody Else Here Like Joyce Meyer Too?

But here’s the problem. According to our Church, all Christians outside of Catholicism teach some form of heresy, this we all can agree on. But what we’re having trouble with here, is the tone of the condemnation from you.

Even the Church does not condone this. We are to be charitable. What we are trying to stress to you, is you need to soften your tone a bit. We all agree her teaching is off. But her spirit seems to be more tolerable that yours. At least that’s the way you’re coming off here. 😊 🤷

There are people here who are not Catholic, and the witness we can show concerning our love for all Christians means just about everything. Otherwise, what you say about truth is just noise. I Cor. 13

One more time (withOUT colors, since it bothers you):
I am not attacking Joyce Meyer or you or ANYBODY else.
She teaches a DIFFERENT Jesus than we believe in.

**If you feel that I’m angry or acrimonous - I assure you I am not. I have little patience for thiose who distort God’s word and pervert his teachings. **
Joyce, Benny, Paul, Frederick, Kenneth, et al, fit that bill.
I don’t condemn ANYbody - JUST their false message.

While you’re at it you don’t need to bold or capitalise every third word either - if your contribution is worthwhile it will stand on its own without being bolded and coloured. If it isn’t, these things will not help a bit. In any event they hinder. I’ve noticed I use capitals too much myself as well, so don’t think I’m singling you out.

And in all seriousness, if you’re not angry or acrimonious then you’re doing an extremely accurate impersonation of someone who is. Remember there are no softening features on the internet, no soft tone of voice or smile on the face and so on. Only your words, which sound very angry and harsh.

And yes, that comment of ‘me and my household serve the Lord’ certainly, taken together with all your other criticism, seems to have the unspoken thought behind it that Joyce, Benny or whoever are not serving the Lord.

Which, as I pointed out, they are probably doing, in fact probably as well as you or I in practice, even if it’s not their intent. And yet somehow I think it actually is their intent to serve the Lord, just as it is yours and mine.

Since God judges hearts rather than results, I’d say they have as good a chance of hearing ‘well done, good and faithful servant’ as me or you or anyone.

I’ve read all the posts here and find them all worthy of learning from but I have to agree with Elvisman. I cannot in good faith spend my time listening to a non-catholic preacher–man or woman. It’s good that we should have charity for one another----that is a given, but one cannot allow this to cloud one’s judgment. We are Catholic and we should support our Catholic sisters and brothers by listening to their programs…I’m not pointing fingers here but how else does Catholic programming take off if not supported? What if she were to view what a great disturbance she’s created (without knowing) on this forum? I have an opinion here but it’s not the point.

The one thought that keeps coming to mind is “beware of false prophets.” I mean really, what is the difference between any of your dozens upon dozens of storefront preachers and Joyce Meyer? She isn’t a priest, or a nun, or more importantly, Catholic. Yes, she claims to be Christian but if at any given moment, she has spoken against the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church, then why do catholics continue to support her by viewing her shows? Are we praying for her while watching? Are we asking for her conversion? After all, one wouldn’t continue to listen a storefront preacher if he or she said something anti catholic would one?

I also understand she has a life story that many of us can relate to…we all do. However, not all of us have 500 people in an audience to listen to us tell it…just think…she is wealthy and very accustomed to her present lifestyle. She has to keep doing what’s she’s doing in order to keep maintain the lifestyle she desires.

Priests and nuns maintain only one lifestyle…no monetary wealth but oodles of spiritual wealth and we all share in it .

thanks for reading…I’ve learned much from all of you. God Bless us all. 🙂

I think part of the problem is that some people think that those of us who are defending Meyer are saying we approve of CATHOLICS sitting under her teaching, and I certainly DON’T. I think as a Catholic, she has very little for me at this stage and there’s a lot in her teaching that could be dangerous, especially if someone doesn’t know enought about their faith to not get confused.

My defense of her has been as a fellow CHRISTIAN, and that she does serve a great purpose in the overall plan of God, in that she reaches people who are not being reached in any other way and God uses her, she’s a willing instrument, although flawed.

I took offense at the suggestion that she doesn’t serve the Lord because she’s not Catholic and doesn’t adhere to Catholic teachings, I just don’t buy that, the Church doesn’t teach it and we shouldn’t as Catholics even suggest it.😦

Very well put!

I do not care to listen to anyone who is not Catholic. I know that sounds snobbish, but I don’t care to.

IMO, if a televangelist has come so far in their field that they are very well known and have a very successful show, then they must be among the top experts in their field (religion).

Well, if you have studied that hard and know all there is to know, then you either A) know the Truth about the Catholic faith and choose to ignore it, B) didn’t study hard enough and don’t know as much as you would have other believe or C) you saw the light and crossed the Tiber.

Unless you did C), I’m not interested in you. (clarification - I’m talking to televangelists like Joyce Meyer here).

Same with Billy Graham. I know he is widely respected and highly regarded. But if he is that gosh darned learned and spiritual, then he would have converted by now.

Just my opinion.

Sorry , I have not figured out how to quote. I just wanted to ask you Little Mary if you were born into the Catholic faith ?

If you were , then do you have any clue at all what a grace it is to BE Catholic , with all of its lovely fulless and history ?

Have you ever struggled with your faith and had to decide for yourself if it was absolutely true ?

Can you separate the things you were taught as a child from the things you KNOW to be true because you have found out from the Lord yourself ?

Would you throw out the death and resurection of our Lord and Savior because Joyce Meyers believes and teaches it and isnt Catholic ?

Do you know that of all truely christ centered religions , the differences amout to only 5 %? (Granted that that 5 % can be seriously important .).

Elvisman…

How do you feel about Billy Graham?
I like Billy Graham. That’s not the point, though. Not ALL Protestant teachers twist and pervert the Scriptures for monetary gain like Myers, Hinn and the rest. Benny Hinn actually told a crowd that he raised someone from the dead! When he was called on the carpet by 20/20 he finally admitted that he “heard” about the incident.
Billy Graham doesn’t teach the Word-Faith message.
Billy Graham doesn’t teach that Jesus went to Hell and suffered for our sins.

**Billy Graham doesn’t teach a Prosperity Gospel *(“God WANTS me to have a Cadillac, so I do. He wants you to have one, too”). ***
These are all perversions of Scripture.
The others I mentioned DO teach these things.

**Let’s not nitpick. 😉 **
EVERYone had their own style of writing.
**I work in publishing and picked up the style from all of the proofing I have to do.😛 **

and I think alot of us here agree with you . My point is this

which of us here can see into the hearts of these folks ?? Who is the judge ?? Is it not God himself who sees ? And

IF IF IF IF

any of these folks KNOW they are twisting scripture for gain , I propose I dont even want to be downwind of their judgement .

remember Romans , God works all things for the good of those who love Him …

who would have thought that Joseph would count it a joy to be thrown in prison for a crime he not only did not do but heartily resisted ? and what did God say of him ?

jaypeetwo4 lol did you have any clue at all when you posted that it would be this loud in here ?? lol

NO I"M NOT THE DEVIL!!! What an aweful thing to say! 😦

I just wondered how he felt about Billy Graham. I don’t know much more than Graham has been on tv and with presidents since I was a kid and there’s a special coming up about his life. I just wondered if he should be put in the same catagory as Benny Hinn and the rest of them. I wondered how a good catholic should feel about him. Gee whiz! Ask a question so I can learn and now I’m the devil!?

TRULY Christ-centered religions - THAT’s the key.
From what I’ve read, seen and heard from Joyce Meyer and the others I mentiond (NOT Billy Graham) - I am not sure that these people are “Christ-centered”.

**I am not judging their hearts, but as Scripture admonishes us, “By their fruits you shall know them.” Jesus said, “A good tree cannot bear rotten fruit”. **
Word Faith teaching, Prosperity teaching - it is a scam and about as rotten as it gets.

Joyce Meyers is typical of what we see with Protestant “megachurches”: little or no theology, motivational talk with bible in hand peppered with humorous anecdotes.

The fact is, people like her can’t delve too far into any real theology as to not offend those who differ with her opinion. In a room full of protestants who all differ on certain doctrines, (and Catholics for that matter who don’t truly understand their faith) you can’t get into the substance of Christianity or its definitive teachings without losing those who follow. Pay close attention and see how much she actually preaches on baptism, original sin, justification, the Eucharist, etc.

People who follow Joel Osteen, Benny Him, JM and others are being led nowhere!! Perhaps, some of these preachers believe they are doing good work. I vehemently object! There is nothing biblical about them. I watch JM talk for nearly an hour one time about how people should “mind their own business” and not gossip… THAT is what Christ intended his Church to be like? Joel Osteen once spent quite some time talking about how we should be nice to our spouse and children. Well, that’s great and all but it isn’t the substance of our beliefs. If we could only ask Justin Martyr what he thinks about these “Churches”

I am sure they are all doing very well for themselves making millions of dollars off books and contributions. But, their time will come at the hands of a bigger judge. How dare they claim to be preachers!? They lead thousands of people (who may be genuinely interested in understanding Jesus and his Church) to nowhere.
