Hi Yea well every one make mistakes with out realized God Mercy and Love, you realize its a sin, many thing don"t realize the dangers of yoga they think is just stretches but when they do it they worship pagan gods, hope you spread the message.

Warnings about the practice of Yoga and all forms of divination – Fr. Joseph Marie Verlinde
They call it “Hollywood yoga” for a reason. It’s like dancing around a firepit lit to worship some idol, instead of jogging, because it’s so cool! The true aim of yoga is self-anihilation and dissolving oneself in the Absolute, raising of the Kundalini serpent through the chakras, physical death, etc.

As we do in sacraments, out word sign is in word Grace ,just the opposite will happen in yoga instead of Grace evil spirits take over even with out our knowledge, its not mere exercise, always the external practices of the positions will effect the internal. that"s our soul ,spirit ,we become

Deuteronomy 4:19 And beware lest you lift up your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and worship them and serve them, things which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.

Deuteronomy 17:3 and has gone and served other gods and worshiped them, or the sun or the moon or any of the host of heaven, which I have forbidden,

Psalm 95:5 For all the gods of the Gentiles are devils: but the Lord made the heavens.
1 Timothy 4:8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

Do you need more? I hope you were not just trying to be smart or teasing, because this is not a funny matter, nor is this a matter suitable for some sorts of mental gymnastics and clashing opinions for fun.
There is only one God. And yet you said yoga came from the “god” Shiva, who does not exist.

Well said ,As in yoga evil spirits take over, even with out our knowledge, its not mere exercise, always the external practices of the positions will effect the internal. that"s our soul ,spirit ,we become lukewarm and loose our faith internally.through meditation canalizing the spirits satan taught them.as in revelations which is called deep things of satan.

Psalm 95:5 For all the gods of the Gentiles are devils: but the Lord made the heavens.

Revelation 2:24 But to the rest of you in Thyati′ra, who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned what some call the deep things of Satan, to you I say, I do not lay upon you any other burden;

1 Timothy 4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.

Is yoga about worshiping Hindu gods, or is it about engaging in advanced stretching and exercise?
At its roots, yoga is originated from the ancient worship of Hindu gods, with the various poses representing unique forms of paying homage to these entities. From this, other religions such as Catholicism and Christianity have concluded that the practice is out of sync with their own, and that it may result in demonic spirits entering a person’s body.

In a recent homily, Pope Francis reminded listeners that practices like yoga aren’t capable of opening our hearts up to God. “You can take a million catechetical courses, a million courses in spirituality, a million courses in yoga, Zen and all these things. But all of this will never be able to give you.freedom”, he explained

Father Amorth was a deeply traditional figure, Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI, both of whom were reported to have performed exorcisms fully supported him, also with the present Pope Francis. In 2014 the International Association of Exorcists was officially recognized by the Vatican. He added:‘Yoga is the Devil’s work. You thing you are doing it for stretching your mind and body but it leads to Hinduism. All these oriental religions are based on the false belief of reincarnation.’
In 1999 the future Pope Benedict XVI, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, then head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Vatican’s enforcer of doctrinal orthodoxy, had issued a document warning Roman Catholics of the dangers of yoga, transcendental meditation and other “Eastern” practices on the ground that they could “degenerate into a cult of the body” that debases Christian prayer.

1 Corinthians 10 9 We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did, and were destroyed by serpents. 10 And do not complain as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer. 11 These things happened to them to serve as an example, and they were written down to instruct us, on whom the ends of the ages have come. 12 So if you think you are standing, watch out that you do not fall.
2 Corinthians 11: 3 But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by its cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4 For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you submit to it readily enough.
1 Corinthians 10:22 Or are we provoking the Lord to jealousy? Are we stronger than he?
1 Corinthians 6:12 “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.

You thing you are doing it for stretching your mind and body but it leads to Hinduism.
There are probabaly millions who are living proof that this is simply not true. I am one, practicing for 40 years. I am not Hindu.

1 Peter 5:8,9 Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking some one to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required of your brotherhood throughout the world.
James 4:4-5 Unfaithful creatures! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you suppose it is in vain that the scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit which he has made to dwell in us”
James 4:7
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you men of double mind.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Do not be mismated with unbelievers. For what partnership have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Be′lial? Or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said,
“I will live in them and move among them and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.17 Therefore come out from them, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; then I will welcome you,
18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”

2 Corinthians 4:4 The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

Psalms 19:12 But who can discern their own errors?
Forgive my hidden faults.

1 John 5:19-20 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. 20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

That is simply superstition.

None of your scripture quotes fit the case.

Superstition?
I think not.

The problem actually lies at the source of Yoga.
Most may not know it, but Yoga really has to do with esoteric practices, energy channeling, etc, in the countries it originated from. Yoga is an extremely old esoteric practice taught by gurus, who themselves are in contact with demonic entities. This “harmless” exercise is a form a witchcraft that sadly found its way into our society through uninformed people, and was made popular over the years, thanks to other uninformed people.

The “demonic influence” of such activity varies from person to person.
Some think it heals their bodies, when in fact such benefits (like every satanic miracles) are temporary.
In fact, these people tend to worsen their situation over time, as more problems will arise: not just physical but psychological and social as well. They won’t even be able to notice the connection between their “hobby” and their aggravated problems, as it’ll seem too “impossible” in their eyes.

Every Catholics should understand that “energy channeling” (which yoga is) isn’t of God.

The only reason why some “protects” yoga, or dismiss any form of warning is because they practice yoga themselves, and don’t want to stop. (that or friends/family of theirs take part in it)

Tell me, Shakuhachi, do you practice yoga?

You don’t compare it with the proper practice:
Compare Yoga with doing a prayer, an invitation to malevolent spirits to affect your body.

If an Atheist did a prayer, even without any hope of being answered, do you think God would ignore?
If an Atheist sprayed holy water on himself, do you think demons would be unaffected?
As a Catholic, would you draw a satanic pentagram on the ground?
As a Catholic, would you do yoga?

Every yoga class I attended, the leader began with talk of clearing the mind, focus on energy in the body, talk of energy as we moved through poses.

That is so like Mass where we change position for different parts of the liturgy, we worship with our bodies. I’ve been at Mass, particularly funerals or weddings, where there are non-Catholics in attendance. Some of them will go along with the postures, attempting to enter into the worship experience more fully. There are others who sit in that pew with a smile on their face and their arms crossed - they signal to anyone watching that they are NOT entering into Catholic worship by not taking on the poses that the others in the room take.

You are sure that no one in your class is listening to the leader wrt inward spiritual dispositions? That they do not feel you are part of that spiritual exercise because you are going through the same motions?

I do yoga stretches. I did a couple of YouTube searches for back and hip because those issues were causing problems with sleeping.

I do NOT hold to the belief that Catholics cannot do yoga because of its Hindu origins. In fact, if the person leading the exercises gets too new-agey I just start saying a Hail Mary because I’m not there to be converted. I’m there to stretch my back and hips.

I have never been one to be influenced by other people so I think it depends on the person. If it’s going to affect you that much, don’t do it.

Why compare it. They have nothing in common.

If an Atheist did a prayer, even without any hope of being answered, do you think God would ignore?
That would be up to God and no one else.

If an Atheist sprayed holy water on himself, do you think demons would be unaffected?
What has blessed water have to do with this discussion?.

As a Catholic, would you draw a satanic pentagram on the ground?
Would have reason to do so? Would it matter?

As a Catholic, would you do yoga?

I do yoga.

… is something the Catholic Church does not teach.

I thought I left this sort of thinking behind. I am reminded of C.S. Lewis and the Screwtape Letters. We do not battle against flesh and blood. Believing in this sort of magic is more dangerous than the yoga. If Satan can convince us to stay away from yoga, Proctor and Gamble, back-masking,etc., as a way of avoid demons, we might be blinded to those who attack us through envy, pride, sloth, etc., the real deadly sins.

You should read about spontaneous yoga experiences. You’re balancing on the edge. All the devil needs is one slip, one prideful statement, one decision, one submission, etc… when you are in his territory.

In conclusion, since all effects of yoga asanas are not a personally willed experience, they only occur spontaneously. Clearly, the willful act to practice any of the asanas is predictably dangerous for ones body, mind and soul.
There are a LOT of testimonies from people who had spontaneous experiences they didn’t wish for. Just type in something like “spontaneous kundalini awakening”, “spontaneous experience yoga”, and try not to freak out. Please… reflect before it’s too late. Turn to prayer instead of going to the devil’s playground.

I think those people had some mental instability to begin with. Almost anything would push them over if just sitting in silence does it.

The body is the devil’s playground? Exercise, stretching, full breathing is the Devil’s playground?
This is such a dim and dark view of the human body and lack of faith in the grace of God.
It seems to me to be so fear based as to be paralyzing.

Where does it stop? Can I fold my hands in prayer as in a yoga mudra? Can I burn incense? Can I kneel?

Even more important in yoga than the stretches are:
Ahiṃsā (अहिंसा): Nonviolence, non-harming other living beings - Must I now become violent?
Satya (सत्य): truthfulness, non-falsehood - must I start lying?
Asteya (अस्तेय): non-stealing - must I start steeling?
Brahmacharya (ब्रह्मचर्य): chastity, marital fidelity or sexual restraint - lose restraiunt?
Aparigraha (अपरिग्रहः): non-avarice, non-possessiveness - become greedy?

This is all yoga

My faith is not in danger from me doing some simple stretches to relieve pain in my back. In fact, I pray WHILE I’m doing the stretching – usually the Hail Mary or the Lord’s Prayer.

If your faith can’t handle it, don’t do it.
