Heavenly Father please grant the prayers of all in this thread who are seeking loving life-partners. Please bring them together soon, as though for You "a thousand years are a single day, a yesterday now over, an hour of the night.” [Psalm 90:4] for those waiting for the right person to love and be loved by, a day can be a thousand years!
I ask this in the name of Jesus

I’m 19 and can pretty much gaurantee you I will never get married. Just look at the statistics, 60% of men will cheat on their spouses, 50% of marriages end in divorce, something like 30% of women are victims of domestic violence, it’s just not worth taking the chance. And besides, and man can absolutely adore and worship me now, but how do I know he’s gonna feel the same way about me 20 or 30 years later? How do I know he’s not going to be like the husband of this one women I knew who after 30 years of marriage walked in one day and declared he was no longer attracted to her and was in love with a younger woman?
Don’t worry so much. 🙂 Do your picking well and don’t ever settle for Mr Almostright. That’s a difficult thing to do since we’re called to love people, not to judge them, but not everyone is someone with whom you can have the holy, good and peaceful marriage that you want. This doesn’t necessarily have much to do with being discerning and picky - this is not a beauty contest or wine tasting. Either it will work or it will not and once you know, you follow through on it. You may like someone, but he may not be the one for you. So you stick to your principles, your choices, your reasons, your faith, your hope, and you don’t start a half-hearted relationship leading to who knows what kind of marriage.

If we look at the problem more theologically and ask ourselves, “will this person help me get into heaven?” things suddenly gain new perspective. Perhaps a, “will I be able to help this person get into heaven?” would also be in order. That is the fundamental goal of marriage, after all.

So courage. Don’t get into meaningless relationships. Don’t allow anyone to treat you badly, don’t put up with things you don’t want in your future marriage, in your family. Then you will likely be single for a long time (although who knows), but when you find the man and marry him, it will be a different story altogether from those statistics.

Here people are trying to teach “theology” - “Catholic theology states this and that”, yes Catholic theology all stated once and defended that the sun revolved around the earth.

This is not an attack at the theology, but rather those who seek to use it as an absolute answer. The bottom line is, in the months this thread has been active and given that so many people are still praying, nothing has happened, there’s enough practical evidence there to suggest nothing is happening.

Good luck.

Do you think all of this discounting the power of prayer is pleasing to God?

I’ll answer that when some evidence of this ‘power’ is shown.
I have been on a rollercoaster of depression and suicide attempts since I was a small child and now am alive today and finally free because of Gods boundless love.

I don’t pray that often, I haven’t been to church in years, have never been baptized, or anything of the sort; but just the same, God loved me enough to stay with me when it was dark, walk with me when I was lost, and hold my hand when all seemed hopeless.

But it was only when I would pick up my bible again for the first time in years, put my hands together in prayer for the first time in weeks, or finally open my heart and accept the will of God, that my aching heart would finally know peace and joy again.

There’s your proof.

I thank God that He has blessed me with so much work to do that I hardly ever have the time to ask myself this question anymore! 🙂

And yet…yeah, it can get lonely out there. I don’t know if I’ll ever be married. My father was married by the time he was my age, but I figure that doesn’t matter much because he was re-married two times after that, and is currently divorced, and by this point determined to never be married again. So maybe the journey isn’t so much about the end goal so much as it is about being moulded into the person that you are meant to be, through prayer, deprivation, and right living. Maybe I’m not that person yet, but when I am, God will see fit to place a person in my life who I am meant to be with. Heck, maybe He has already done so and I’m just too thick to realize it! I don’t know.

Either way, the point is the same: God always provides. If we are meant to be married, we will be. If we are meant to be single, we will be. Our ultimate reward for a life lived in service to God and submission to His authority is not a spouse, anyway. It is infinitely more great.

I too have been on the “rollercoaster”, for the most part, I think that’s everyone on this earth. I know what depression is, it affects me, and I’m sure it has affected everyone at one point on another, some people go through much longer periods, suicidal thoughts, are also another common thing, I too have had it.

I however have been going to Church for a long time, it’s only recently my attitude has changed, bible, prayer the works, I did it all. Accept the will of God? I was open to the priesthood at one point too, and discerned not to take that path through what I thought were signs from God.

However I do not have ‘joy’ anymore, it’s precisely from praying and keeping ‘hope’ has all this rubbish come to pass. So no, you offer no proof. I am glad however that you find joy, each to his own. It’s clear some people on this forum aren’t in ‘joy’ all the whining about heartache and sorrow and anxiousness, yet when I address it, they all attack me saying I’m wrong.

Cheers

Many have tried all that, including me, nothing good happens to everyone that takes that path. One might say “it’s only when God sees fit”, well keep thinking that, because frankly that’s a self-sealing argument and considered a fallacy, because no one can argue something against it.

Golly gee, let’s hope you realize it sooner rather than later 😉

If we are meant to be single, then people eventually must come to some kind of closure through providence, it’s like a priest, they do not come kicking and screaming, it’s something they choose, you can’t be single kicking and screaming, it’s a choice. Maybe you want to be married but God eventually changes your heart to accept it, some people DON’T want to be single, that’s not providence, that indicates either something yet is to happen or they wish to be married, then extrapolate that to the examples of 40 or 50 year olds, this isn’t the OT anymore, no one lives till they’re 900

Women’s chances of having healthy children GREATLY reduce by the time they are 38, chances of miscarriages and complications greatly increase, one might say “Oh God will see what’s fit and he will help me to have a healthy baby” - keep dreaming, take a look at some hospital statistics.

It’s like walking out onto the highway at 9 am with a blindfold thinking “I’ll be safe, God’s with me”.

Errors galore.

Forgive me, Sir or Ma’am, but it seems clear to me from reading your incredibly unpleasant reply that the issue of the efficacy of prayer is far less a stumbling block to your possible marriage than your very judgmental and rude attitude towards the ideas and beliefs of others is likely to be.

Heavenly Father
I pray that all here may seek to do God’s will in His perfect time and that they may place all their trust in Him, knowing that He always fulfills his promises and does what is best for us." Praise be to God, who never abandons anyone who hopes and places his trust in Him".Especially today we pray for all those who are lonely and worried, that they may taken over completely by Christ’s love. May each day bring them closer to you Lord and to the one they are seeking.

May Baby Jesus come down into your hearts tonight and fill them with His Divine love and may He continue to possess your hearts as you will one day possess his.

God Bless you all abundantly, Merry Christmas!

First of all, Catholic theology never stated the sun revolved. It is impossible for Catholic theology to state such a thing.

Moral and faith truths ARE absolute. God is not relative to what we want Him to be.

2nd, your need for “evidence” means you are still caught up in what YOU can see. That is a very arrogant to place. There is plenty happening, but You dont’ see it so therefore it doesn’t exist?

ANd by the way, YOU have been doing the attacking.

“If you will not hear the truth than no one can tell it to you”

I will pray for you and that you are freed from your bitterness and pain. Because, believe it or not, for all your cynicism, you are as much Gods beloved child as I am.

What a lovely prayer, Kirsty! 🙂

Merry Christmas to you and yours, too! :harp:

And bad people?

Been worried a bit, lately. I have a pretty acquaintance I have a bit of a soft spot for, but I am not so sure she sees it as just friends nothing more to be. In truth, she’s a good girl, but there are some things I couldn’t get over and I’m not in love. I’m not attracted to her more than to other women, nor do I like her more than other women. So in short there’d be no reason to have a relationship with her. Last time I was giving her advice where to look for a guy when we were talking about that kind of subject, so I guess she isn’t into any delusions, but I still have a bit of a bad feeling about this. Suppose will have to drop a clear signal or turn charm off. Pity to skip a nice girl, but got to be careful if one is to avoid an unhappy ever after. Speaking of ever after, no one in sight. I’m beginning to doubt in my ability to fall in love, especially considering I’m an argumentative lawyer specialising in litigation, which is a form of debate. Logic, arguments, this kind of thing. Doesn’t mean I don’t have emotions or feelings or ideals or don’t feel attraction to specific women, but all it’s all just so unsufficient in any case I can think about and I can’t really think of a case where it wouldn’t be. Gonna be single forever for a personality cause?

Posted on this thread a long time ago and thought I’d check it out again. Loved this post, chevalier. Someone will love all the logic about you, don’t talk it down.

It’s very easy to become discouraged when reading such depressing statistics, or when we see examples of bad marriages among our own friends and family.

However …

Keep in mind that these statistics are drawn from the entire pool of marriages: marriages among atheists, agnostics, pagans, liberal protestants, and others who do not see marriage as a lifelong Sacrament, but merely as a means to “happiness” … and consequently these folks are quite likely to jump ship when the going gets rough, because their “happiness” has been disrupted.

Someone on CAF (I believe it may have been agapewolf) once posted divorce statistics from couples who were completely on-board with the teachings of the Church regarding marriage (i.e., no artificial contraception) … and the divorce rate among these couples was incredibly low.

I think the key is to find a man of character … one who truly takes to heart Ephesians 5:25 : “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” Also, one who understands that love is a choice, not merely a “feeling” … a choice to persevere even through storms, even through the “dry spells” which come to every marriage, even when they’re (gasp!) feeling momentarily “unhappy.”

Will it be easy to find such a man? Probably not. Will it be worth the wait, worth the search? Oh, yeah. 😃
Exactly. I’ve read several studies that focused on the marriages of practicing Catholics and Christians who believed that marriage was a life long commitment and not a temporary thing. The success rate for a life long marriage was around 85%-90%.

Sorry, but I have not read all 47 pages…

To the original question, I do feel that same way. Especially since I’m fresh from a relationship where I feel that he lied for a majority of it.
I really thought he was the one, but it turns out I really didn’t know him at all. He was the one that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. And then I get hurt yet again…

I always wonder if I will ever find the right one. I don’t want to be alone for the rest of my life. I’m tired of finding all the wrong guys.
I’m 30 now and will be turning 31 in about five months…I’m constantly wondering if I will ever get marrid…
I want someone that I can share my life with and that will support me and share their life with me as well.
