Anyone on here remember the old Catholic Answers forum?

I think I was literally one of the first 1,000 members of the old site. That was in another life, so to speak. Now, a few usernames later, I think it’s pretty much the same as far as the discussions go. I don’t see many topics, though. Just canon law posts is about all I look at…with a few exceptions (evidently).

I think that, in some cases, the flag is used as the opposite of the “like” - as the thumb down on YouTube. The like is easy to grasp. Sadly, the flag gives those who are trolls, malicious, easily offended or simply unwilling to confront differing opinions a degree of power over those who offer those opinions.

I have been flagged for quoting Fr. Mitch Pacwa and Dr. Ray Guarendi. Maybe I should quote Michael Savage or Bill Maher and see how it goes…

Nah.

If you are saying that with me in mind and referring to something canon law related that is brewing, I will note that I comment on a small percentage of the canonical topics that I see/read. I might know what you are referring to, for example, but I am not going to make any comment on that thread.

Yes, hence the 😏 in my post.

I have always enjoyed your posts, and I know that you only post when you can offer something in the way of correction or furthering understanding.

May 21, 2004, 5:14 pm, is when I first signed up for this forum. I wonder if I’ll ever publicly admit who I was back then…

Ha ha! I was May 19, 2004, 10:47 am.
I was number 700+change

And I was formerly Well-regarded by many Catholics (I think that’s how it went?)

I miss the moderation.
It’s like the wild west now.

The community flagging system didn’t serve but to weaponize the flags.
I totally agree. The flagging system now is weaponized. I won’t give an opinion about the moderation. I do miss the enforcement against posting non-news stories as news. The current news forum is mostly trash: op-eds, marginal internet outlets, and political propaganda.

I suspected something like that. I keep soldiering on with the same name.

I kind of wish that when people decide to permanently leave, they put a note on their profile so we know they didn’t die or anything. I’ll forever wonder about some people.

Someone actually did find one poster’s obituary here once after he was gone for a while.

The old forums were by far more superior. The layout was better, live moderators were better. And to be honest, the community was a lot less toxic then.
