Anyone on here remember the old Catholic Answers forum?

Relative newcomer @ 2007. Did have 36,000 posts on the old forum.

Poof!

Dreaming of what I miss:
  1. Religion or not listed on each post - an aid to understanding the poster’s perspective.
  2. Date of joining. Just 'cuz, and or pulling rank. 😉
  3. Signatures! Adds a touch of persponality, no matter how obtuse or abrasive it might be.
  4. Location, even if by nation only.
Would like to see:
  1. Age or age bracket, in addition to the above.
  2. Male or female (if not apparent in username) would allow tailoring of reply style.
  3. Far fewer and far better emoticons.
And then I wake up and we don’t have any of it.

I think I was literally one of the first 1,000 members of the old site.
May 21, 2004, 5:14 pm, is when I first signed up for this forum. I wonder if I’ll ever publicly admit who I was back then…

Ha ha! I was May 19, 2004, 10:47 am.
I was number 700+change

And I was formerly Well-regarded by many Catholics (I think that’s how it went?)
You told us your old name not long ago!

Now that the news is not controlled, I can guess the news outlet of certain dubious threads, and the poster, from the title around two out of three, to three out of four time. You should try it. Make a game of it.

It was not the name that seemed familiar as much as the posts. Did you have a role with tribunals and provide information on those back then?

That was not me. There was, as I recall, a deacon on here who did that. Ah, yes, cameron_lansing, (or close to that) was his username. It seems like … as I came along (in my canon lawyer iteration), he went away.

They basically migrated all of that info to our “User Card” that pops up when you click on someone’s username. Of course, a person has to have entered that info into their profile for it to show up there.

For Lent this year I’m abstaining from all news, including the World News forum here. It’s improved my quality of life immeasurably.

I am 2 for 2 on guessing LSN today, and 3 for 4 in guessing Breitbart!

The one I missed was FOX.

I miss the old layout, and also the people who left. We used to be able to have profiles that listed our favourite saints as well as a visitor’s wall.

I wonder why we can’t have groups, anymore: I used to love the poetry group and the vegans and vegetarians group.

Maybe the forums had to change because the “supplier” of the forum template or theme had it updated.

I guess we have to keep up with the times, as goes the old ultimatum: change is as good as rest; or the paradox, change is the only constant.

It was like having a friend leave the front porch light on for you. It felt welcoming.
