Archbishop blasts Ferndale priest's leading of liberal Mass

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t having a Mass without the Bishop’s permission is a violation of Church law? If true, then we already know Fr. Wurm violated Church law.

I believe this is correct.
Other abuses reported were a _ woman reading the Gospel and delivering the homily.
Ned McGrath was on the Al Kresta’s show today. He is the spokesman for the Archdiocese. He said that an investigation would be conducted and would not reveal any other abuses that might have taken place. He did confirm that Fr. Wurn was under the authority of the Archbishop and not the Benedictines as reported else where.
I interpret the Archbishop’s admonishment to priests “participating” as in celebrating the mass as opposed to attending it at observers. So I’m not sure if any other priests might have attended and would be investigated or deserve any rebukes.

Fr. Z was there but apparently simply as an observer. I suspect on his blog somewhere he describes his status somewhat less charitably (like “circusgoer”?). But I am sure his presence was not cause for disciplinary concern.

Fr. Z was actually in town for the Call to Holiness Conference, and and presided at Mass that Sunday (listen to his homily in my previous post). He visited briefly at the heretical event to cover it as only that, an event, for his blog.

Ah, I had forgotten about that. Al Kresta was there too and also reported from the ACC. Thanks for the reminder.

It looks like the average age was about 75. I can only hope that this sort of rebellion will just die out with them when their time here is up. And hopefully they can’t do too much more damage in 20 years.

The sadness is that they are looking to create their own hope, and not looking to heaven for it. They think that if they change the Church to reflect their own image, and not that of the Holy Trinity, they will have hope. They are so sadly mistaken.

They`re in their second childhood; so maybe they think they have a bit to go, yet.

As far as I know, they have spawns. 😦 So, even when the older generation passes, we would still come across members who subscribe to this sort of movement within the Church.

Yes, but that is often the case. Diehard supporters of lost causes are nothing new: consider the advocates for a geocentric theory of the universe.

I think that if there were significant numbers of younger supporters, we would have seen them in greater attendance at this conference. That such organizations haven’t been able to attract many supporters among the younger generation has been noted for many years now.

Only a sprinkling of them would attend fuddy-duddy conferences such as this one. I reckon, the younger generation’s preference would be within other conference settings e.g. New Age and a few suspect ecumenical/catechetical retreats.
