As a member of the Denver archdiocese, you’re getting one of the best! We’re saddened to lose him.As a member of the Philadelphia archdiocese, I can say we feel blessed and honored by the announcement.

My best guess would be Bishop Conley. Of course, that is just a guess. But anyways, congrats to Philly! They have no idea how lucky they are. It will not be long before they see an increase in vocations like we did here (last I heard from Denver’s vocations director, a close friend of my parents, St. John Vianney has more seminarians than rooms!) and then he’ll get his red hat. After that, he’ll be elected the first American pope! I can’t wait to see what he’ll do over there.Congratulations to Archbishop Chaput! Boy, first Archbishop Gomez gets Los Angeles and now Archbishop Chaput gets Philly! Two for two and anyone who couldn’t see this coming was blind!
My chief concern about this is who will replace him in Denver. The seminaries there are bursting at the seams, because of his ardent work among the youth of the area and his devotion to missionaries. He just named a new director for the Respect Life office, who should be a crackerjack. He got Catholics involved in politics. They cannot afford to slip backwards. I don’t know anything about the relatively new assistant bishop there, but it doesn’t seem that he would be given the nod. That means more shakeups if they were to bring in someone from the outside. It is like dominoes. I really don’t envy the Holy Father – it is a nerveracking balancing act.
Now that, would be something I can get excited about! I like the way you think!American pope! I can’t wait to see what he’ll do over there.
I thinking along the same lines, Jonathan V. As you said, only a guess. My best guess would be Bishop Conley. Of course, that is just a guess.
Sorry, the first American Pope will be Cardinal Burke!!Now that, would be something I can get excited about! I like the way you think!
Please God, send us more servants like him…
That’s what the thought about BXVI. Many Americans too thought he was too conservative.Ditto re Cardinal Burke! Maybe he’s a little too conservative for the Europeans. Okay, Cardinal Chaput.
I think Philadelphia should have to give up some draft choices to Denver.Oh no! I am pleased for the Archbishop but devastated that we’re about to lose him in Colorado.

The one who seems to have done the most to stove in the hull was Drinan. He seems to have led the Kennedys down the bridal path of heresy. Would like to know the full story of that man’s career. Was he a devotee of deChardin, for instance.Evidently it is. You have to remember how bad that ship was listing when he took over, however.
Reminding me that the Counterreformation was more than just a struggle with the Protestants. It involved the secularists in the Church, the magicians and the politiques. Luther and the other Reformers had no clue as to what they were up against. The Catholic Reformers, I think, had a better sense of it all, since they had the task of dealing with corrupt and infidel men who held so many positions in the Church. Sometimes I wonder why Phillip Neri is so little clebrated in our Church. He had a handle on the situation.i think that Archbishop Chaput is an excellent choice for the troubled diocese of Philadelphia. i have heard when he has spoken out on many controversial issues and i think he is great. i wish him the best and i think the diocese of philadelphia will be in good hands and he will be a good leader for the flock their.
i live in a diocese that also experienced and is still experiencing problems, but we have a strong conservative bishop who has taken over, Bishop Olmstead, and he has made many improvements. the liberal catholics are not fond of him, but i think he is trying his best to see that the true teachings of the Catholic Church are being taught and that the Catholic churches within his diocese set good examples of what Catholicism is about. i might be saying what i mean awkwardly, but hope you all understand.
I’m from St. Louis, but I used to live in Philly (Swarthmore). My daughter was born there. This is why I am taking such an interest. Cardinal Rigali was Archbishop in St. Louis before he got to Philadelphia. When C. Rigali left St. Louis, then Archbishop Burke came in, and he had his hands full dealing with the abuse issue. Under Arbshp Rigali, there were years when no or maybe one ordination happened. Under Burke, the seminary exploded. We now are having to renovate the seminary to accommodate the many seminarians there. In addition, many seminarians were sent to study in Rome by Archbishop Burke. This has resulted in our new priests being firmly anchored in the orthodoxy of the Church.
It’s been exhilarating for St. Louis!![]()
I would love to see him as pope too. However, I heard an American Pope would never be picked because of the status of the United States in the world or something of that nature. Now that, would be something I can get excited about! I like the way you think!

Having moved to Colorado, but refusing to give up my allegiance to the hapless Kansas City Chiefs I can tell you the Denver Broncos fans are fans forever. . If he tells you he is pulling for the Eagles he will have to go to confession before he celebrates the Eucharist again!Let us pray for this poor man who must become an Eagles fan.
And people say you cannot pre-pay Purgatory![]()
In the article in NCR he says that he will be a fan of the Phillies and Eagles but admits to having Steeler sentiments.Having moved to Colorado, but refusing to give up my allegiance to the hapless Kansas City Chiefs I can tell you the Denver Broncos fans are fans forever. . If he tells you he is pulling for the Eagles he will have to go to confession before he celebrates the Eucharist again!
Oh for Heaven’s sake, the man is a Bishop of the Church. Whatever football team he roots for has NO bearing on the stateof his soul or his ability to get into Heaven…Having moved to Colorado, but refusing to give up my allegiance to the hapless Kansas City Chiefs I can tell you the Denver Broncos fans are fans forever. . If he tells you he is pulling for the Eagles he will have to go to confession before he celebrates the Eucharist again!
