“This revised HHS mandate does nothing to change the fundamentally anti-religious, anti-conscience and anti-life contraceptive mandate. It rather only creates some paperwork gimmicks that don’t change the fact that religious employers who object to coverage of these services will now have to drop health insurance altogether to maintain their conscience and face severe penalties for doing so,” he added. “This President is tone deaf to the very real religious and moral objections of millions of Americans. The so-called one year delay last month was a clear slap in the face of religious groups, and this new proposal still requires religious entities that are not exempt as a church to subsidize and pay insurance companies so they can give free birth control to their employees. However, it won’t be free, because the insurance companies will increase the premium and administrative costs to the employer.”

I have heard from 4 Bishops so far on the revised mandate, Bishop Zubik, Bishop Tobin, Bishop Greogry Aymond and Bishop Slattery - none of them have said the mandate goes far enough - religious freedom has still not been given.

If Obama, and the mainstream media thought Obama’s speech was enough to cool things down, they got it wrong. Catholics and other religious people are not going to compromise on religious freedom.

As for the President’s insistence this saves money, Blue Cross’s unofficial estimate was that it would cost $2.8 billion for the contraceptive/sterilization/abortifacient coverage, and $13 billion for all preventive care services. It would not be a huge jump in an average $4000 premium plan, about $13.00, but the overall cost is large.

Our Administration person basically said that whether fully insured or self-insured that the insurer is not going to eat the cost of the free contraceptives, so everyone’s premiums will still rise and the costs a religious employer pays “Blue Cross” or another insurance provider will increase to pay the difference.

As President Obama liked to say during the Obamacare debate insurance companies will want to make their profit, so they’ll increase rates somewhere. The religious employer will be directly paying the insurance company probably at increased cost, to provide the free contraceptives to the employee.

Yes of course. You know when the MSM wants to denigrate Catholics (which is most of the time) they always trot out some renegade Religious or defrocked priest or CINO writer like James Carroll. They never seek out a strong and holy Catholic priest or Religious sister.

Sr Carol has her own set of rather shaky activities as you noted above. I hardly think she speaks for the majority of Catholics. Unfortunately most of the viewers of news shows think she’s another Mother Teresa.
