It’s not his place to target anyone.
Jesus didn’t target people, neither should he.
Our goal as Christians is to bring people to the truth, not drive them away with harsh words and finger pointing, especially when those words are often misinterpreted by the person using them.
Jim
Jim, with all charity this ideology is part of the problem in the Church today. Our catechizing, evangilisation and Homilies are so luke warm and feel-good that the filial fear of God no longer exists. I suggest a good dose of “hell-fire and brimestone” is just what is needed to wake up a luke warm people and save souls. Prior to the 60’s we had Homilies on the four final things, Hell, eternal damnation, anathema’s. Now we get “i’m ok, you’re ok” with theology lite added in. And the empty pews, fallen away Catholics and pick and choose theology shows it. Our Lord Jesus Christ was compassionate when needed, but He was also Judgemental and Zealous when needed. We need Bishops that will wave the Sword of God and save Souls, not politicians looking to keep everybody happy. Just look at how the Bishops that are starting to speak out authoritativley on Sin and Church teaching are being pilloried and you can see that society is aghast that one can be so “Judgemental”. The world does not want True Theology. The father of all lies does not want True Discipline and adherence to Church teaching. The Saints. the Church Fathers and past Popes have often had to respond to indifference within the Faithfull by brandishing the Sword of Truth. And it is once again time for that type of sheparding.
We, as Catholics need to purge the wishy washy, feel good mentality that has permeated our beliefs and return to a definitive, obiedient Faith that clearly states what is right, and what is wrong. The Church cannot be friends with the world. The Church is not of this world.
from The Gospel of St. John; ch 17
"[11] And now I am not in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name whom thou has given me; that they may be one, as we also are. [12] While I was with them, I kept them in thy name. Those whom thou gavest me have I kept; and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition, that the scripture may be fulfilled. [13] And now I come to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy filled in themselves. [14] I have given them thy word, and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world; as I also am not of the world. [15] I pray not that thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that thou shouldst keep them from evil.
[16] They are not of the world, as I also am not of the world. [17] Sanctify them in truth. Thy word is truth. [18] As thou hast sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. [19] And for them do I sanctify myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.
[20] And not for them only do I pray, but for them also who through their word shall believe in me;
[21] That they all may be one, as thou, Father, in me, and I in thee; that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that thou hast sent me."
from The Gospel of St. Matthew; ch 10
“[11] And into whatsoever city or town you shall enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and there abide till you go thence. [12] And when you come into the house, salute it, saying: Peace be to this house. [13] And if that house be worthy, your peace shall come upon it; but if it be not worthy, your peace shall return to you. [14] And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words: going forth out of that house or city shake off the dust from your feet. [15] Amen I say to you, it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.”
Have a Blessed Christmas Season everyone.
