Hello Julianna,

Thank you for your post.
you’re welcome

I can appreciate what you are saying here. However, I do believe that if a person is judged guilty by God of this offense that they would be in danger of going to Hell. Of course, willful knowledge and intent would be a factor and so would any repentance and forgiveness.
yes, judged guilty by God, not us…unless you have a crystal ball and can see into the hearts of people

In the past, the Catholic Church has declared such activity - heretical.

Martin Luther was excommunicated, in part, because he pulled Catholics away from their faith. I feel that this is a reasonable warning for those who might wish to do the same.
IMHO for what it is worth, Martin Luther questioned some of the policies of the church and had a bone to pick with the Church so he picked up his marbles and moved on…excommunications in those days were a great “scare tactic” on the people who questioned the Church
There are some “ex-Catholics”, for example, who are “ex-Catholics” because of negative, behavioral choices that they have made, where they removed themselves from the Catholic Church, for example, multiple or “mixed” marriages (Catholics married to non-Catholics).
My father is Catholic (now deceased), my mother Baptist, married in the Catholic Church in 1956…my siblings and I were all raised Catholic due to my “mothers” influence more than my dads. My siblings married non-Catholics…their children are Catholic
These “ex-Catholics” are now bitter, so they bad-mouth the Catholic Church and deliberately attempt to undermine Catholicism and they know better.

These "ex-Catholics” know the truth; they just have a problem living the truth, as a Catholic.
I think they question “who’s truth”. The Church would not be the Church without the people…and human beings ask questions
There are people who do pull Catholics away from their faith because of personal reasons and not base on any theological reason.
If someone is weak in their faith…yes, I agree that is possible.
I know this, because I have actually met “ex-Catholics” and non-Catholic Christians who are like this.

This thread, is one of those “You know who I’m talking about” threads…

Moreover, this thread is just one of many opportunities that I have to explain and defend my Catholic faith.

It is wrong to knowingly reject Christian truths found in Catholicism and it is wrong to teach other to do so.

There are those who have pulled Catholics away from their faith, who are in danger of going to Hell.
If the intent was evil…yes, but we don’t know that…God decides.
I hope this helps.
Yes, thank you for your positive discussion.
Peace 🙂
…and also to you

I don’t know.

I am not one to judge. I cannot answer for Christ Himself.

I can only pray that they will either come back to the Catholic Church, convert to the Catholic faith, or pray that the Holy Spirit will enlighten them to the truths of the Catholic Church.

I’m only a servant of Christ, not one of His judges since He has none.

Also, speaking from a non-Catholic background, I would hope that Christ has a way of sparing mercy on those outside of the Catholic Church because I have loved ones who are not Catholic and died non-Catholic.

On the other side, since sin is prevalent in our world, we are all in danger of going to hell… it’s by God’s grace through faith that we might be saved from such horrible destiny.

Just checked the poll results so far and survey says: The Catholic opinion is way in the rears being outpaced by its direct opposite answer by almost 3 to 1!

Hello SIA,

You’re right, and this is probably because most here do not want to appear judgmental.

For the sake argument here, let’s say, that a person is absolutely 100% guilty (in God’s eyes) of “knowingly, pulling a Catholic from his faith” and that person does not ask for forgiveness…. And, Catholicism turns out to be the one true Christian religion….Then what?

Then, what would your answer be?

I know that this is a hypothetical question but now that I have made this question more specific, I wonder how many opinions here will change…

Thank you for your post.

Peace

Absolutely, they are going down, down, down. Here’s why:

Matthew 18:5-7

5And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

6But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

7Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

A Catholic pulled out of the Church by a non-Catholic/Protestant, is likely a child in his faith, either because he was not properly catechized or because he never grew in his faith, so I think this text applies.

Then you absolutely know what my answer would be. But what if it is isn’t the one true Church?

Well then, I guess, using the “Born again” standard, as a Catholic who accepts Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I would be still be “Saved”… right?

Peace

Because, I "believe " in Jesus and that He died for my sins…

I guess everyone is in Danger of going to Hell Regardless if they are Catholic or not. I left the Catholic Church Oh I might go to Hell but it will not be because I joined a Lutheran Church. Jimmy B a lot of people will get to heavan even us Protestants If I get there before you do I will save you a seat. I can tell you people who think they are headed to Heavan just because they are Catholics and us Proestants are not had better think again.

If they meet all the conditions of mortal sin. If a Catholic knows that the Catholic Church is the Church founded by Jesus Christ 2,000 yrs ago, but starts to doubt it, he is fulling acknowledges it, fully consent it, and does it by his own will, and leaves the Church, he is guilty of mortal sin.

However, if he die and his heart change, only God can determine from the man’s heart if he should attain Heaven. God of course will judge everyone base on what they have done on earth.

If a Catholic rejects the Pillar and Bulwark of Truth which is the Church of God is rejecting God because the Church is the Body of Christ.

Does anyone see the irony in the “if you reject the church you reject Jesus” argument?

Paul never preached that you had to be a member of a Church to be saved, he preached salvation by repenting and trusting in the savior. Do you have all your trust in Christ to save you? Or are you relying on the priest or communion to wash away your sins? Only by the blood of the lamb can we be washed pure as snow, Jesus is the only acceptable sacrifice. All who trust in Him will be saved. 👍

Jesus gave us the Church. Jesus clearly said to his disciples, “He who hears you hears me, he who rejects you, rejects the one who sent me.” That is pretty straight forward. Protestants have a major problem by dividing Jesus Christ and His Church. That is theological error on their part.

mrl, I was happy to see that you mention the blood of the lamb. July is the month that the Catholic faith dedicates to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus.
A little personal note on the Precious Blood follows. When I returned to my Catholic faith Easter of 2005 after 40 years away it wasn’t because of any priest. I returned because I needed something more that I felt missing in other religions or churches outside the Catholic faith. Christ led me to Him in the Eucharist. However, I could not take Him in Communion until I made my Confession of 40 years. In those 40 years I did confess to others and to God and I thought I was ok. When I made my confession to His priest who is ordained from the beginning of His Church tears of shame and joy came from places in me I never knew before.
When I received Our Lord in Communion I cried again. However, I never took His Precious Blood. July of 07 my wife and I visited our son at college and we went to Mass at Sacred Heart that Sunday. I went to receive Communion and then without thinking, I followed my wife to receive His Prescious Blood. I cried again but did not know why. When we returned home that evening I opened my Magnificat for the month of July and discovered that it is devoted to the Precious Blood of Our Lord. I never knew this before.
The mystery of our faith is so deep and Our Lord is always calling us to a deeper union and understanding in Him. It is much more than being saved that calls me to Him. I do not think about being saved, it seems insignificant at this point. I need Him for purpose and guidance. I love that I can receive Him in Communion and receive His forgiveness through His priest in Confession.
I love how He chose only a woman to give Him His body and blood. Think about the beauty of that Mystery. I think about how He wants us all to be united in love as He and His Father are united. The implication of this is that we are united now in fear and dissent.
I never would have known that His love spreads throughout the world in all different faiths constantly calling the chosen ones who have the sensitivity of an open heart to love one another. I know now that He guides those who listen to their hearts, who do not know Him, to love others. He is here for everyone regardless of whether or not they know His name. His Precious Blood which I now receive in Communion is in me if I have the faith of a mustard seed.

Jesus gave us the Church. Jesus clearly said to his disciples, “He who hears you hears me, he who rejects you, rejects the one who sent me.”

Can you please show me where in that scripture Jesus is saying that He gave us the Catholic church?

Ronald you said…

and

I do not think about being saved, it seems insignificant at this point.

Jerimiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Proverbs 28:26"He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool…"

That’s a nice story and I’m glad you are repentant, but you must confess your sins to Jesus and KNOW you are saved.

Romans 1013
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

mrl, You have pulled quotes out of context and have not seen the love of Our Lord and how He has worked in my life. Romans 2:11 “There is no partiality with God.” Rm 2:14-16 “For when the Gentiles who do not have the law by nature observe the prescriptions of the law, they are a law for themselves even though they do not have the law. They show that the demands of the law are written in their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even defend them on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge people’s hidden works through Christ Jesus.”
Do you see the Love of Our Lord for those who do not know Him? His Precious Blood is shed for everyone and will influence everyone to love more if our hearts are open enough to receive His Love.
I do not know where this passage is that states what comes from our mouths reveals what is in our hearts. When you quoted Jeremiah and Proverbs above in response to my post it is obvious that you do not know me and judge me by how your heart reacts to my post. My protestant friends that I have been running with in the mornings for the last 11 years know me and they know why I returned to Catholicism after 40 years and they know how much I love Our Lord. When we run up a steep hill talking about His Love for all of us there is no pain, there is only the joy of grace that He gives us to love one another. They do not understand the Sacraments but they know me and know how I love my faith. We are all a part of the Body of Christ. I have been blessed to be given their friendship which opened me to Christ and then He led me back Home. They do not debate with me about the Sacraments and Mass. They accept that they do not understand what I know and I accept that they do not understand. We love one another through the Heart of Our Lord who reveals His Love each moment of the day to everyone who is open.
