Are transgendered people allowed to get married or be in relationships?

Not all genetic disorders are noted at birth. Quite often they are not discovered until adulthood. Gender transition is the standard medical therapy for gender identity disorder. No one is “forced” to transition just like no cancer patients are “forced” to take chemo or get surgery. Please try to have some sympathy for people with these conditions.

abortion clinics exist as well. You are incorrigible and are not interested in what the Catholic position is on transgenders. You bore me.

I am very much interested in Catholic beliefs about a variety of topics, including but not limited to, transgender people and the loving relationships which they frequently engage in. That is why I am posting at this forum. Please stop maligning me.

Viv,

I am on my way. Here is the Catholic Teaching on Homosexuality. It is not up for debate. It is not up for vote. It is what it is. Love it, I do.

Think I will go back to other forums…🙂

You hit the nail on the head Viviphilia. If you read his post, and there are so many, It is creepy. He is very narrow in his thinking and full of hate, and totally lacking in compassion. We should pray for him.
So transparently sock-puppet.

:hmmm:

The comments are similar. At the very least, personal attacks and insults like the ones from new posters in the following posts from various threads are against the rules.

Since the 1960s, four American-born Catholics have left the church for every one who has converted, according to a 2009 Pew study. We have to fight to keep members in the Church. He is very focused on homosexuals. I think he must be a closet homosexual, one that really hates himself.

A very sad case he is.

You make a good point, the Church is there to interpret the scriptures for us. God tells us we can’t think for ourselves and that is why he created the one true Catholic Church. I don’t think that Tony guy is a real Catholic. We may be stupid but at least we are going to heaven.

Matt you are a wonderful and thoughtful person. It just seems Mr C is just trying to stirr up issues. I saw one of the previous post and they were right. This guy has some strange fixation on homosexuality. I would not bother posting on his string again. If you look at his post, it is the same old obsessive diatribe. He has nothing in his heart but cold admonishments. I think he has some kind of God complex or wants to be in the priesthood. His posts give me a feeling of repulsion and uneasiness. He just wants everyone to believe the exact same way he does. The previous post, I think is right, this guy has no love or understanding in Christ.

How can you put transgenders and cancer patients in the same category? First off, cancer patients get chemo treatments or surgery because their health is at risk and they could die. People who feel they are a different sex has nothing to do with their health at risk. I don’t think it’s fair to compare cancer patients with transgenders.

What I was saying there, perhaps not clearly, is that being proud of denying medical treatment seems like a strange attitude for a Christian. I did not say what you are accusing me of, that it is un-Christian to deny SRS.
At any rate, you are unable to substantiate that I made a false accusation against you. You owe me an apology.
I have seen no evidence that the person in question is a doctor. Perhaps you believe every claim you read on the internet. I do not.
I am not that naive.
An example of the many falsities on the internet is the popular conclusion that the Vatican has a public statement rejecting the validity of gender transitions. There is no such public statement. I believe the reason why the Vatican has not made such a statement is because they are wise enough to know that the debate over transgender people is still ongoing. By releasing a public statment that negatively effected trans persons, it might negatively effect the loving relationships which many trans persons are involved in.
Can you imagine if your spouse realized he or she had a gender disorder and was forced to transition genders, and the Church annulled your marriage because of that medical condition? I believe that when the Vatican finally releases a public statement on transgender inviduals, they will follow Christ’s teachings of tolerance, mercy and acceptance.
You may not know that within Catholic Answers membership are excellent researchers who are knowledgeable on a variety and spectrum of interest and issues, especially on Catholic issues and what the Vatican has said or did not say on any given subject! So, please don’t assume that CAF membership is like the membership in other Internet sites.

We know the Church is very careful with its pronouncements. She is also respectful, at times too respectful, as for instance her regard for the social and behavioral sciences, i.e., psychiatry and psychology. When homosexuality was considered a mental illness and so called experts in the fields believed it could be cured, the Church turned to such experts in said disciplines to help solve the clergy sex abuse problem and the problem with homosexual priests. At the same time that efforts to rehabilitate were being undertaken, the Church practiced what it preached, mercy and forgiveness for repented sins of homosexual and pedophile priests. Well, the scandal was contained long enough and when it exploded, the consequence to the Church, in particular the erosion of her moral authority was truly staggering.

Transitioning from male to female is such a burning issue for you personally that you are assuming things about the Church for conceivably the wrong reasons and making projections. Of course, the Church will be fully aligned with its teaching on mercy. Your inclusion and certitude about tolerance and acceptance in certain situations are based on wishful thinking, however.

The problem with your stream of arguments is that you are taking cover with the affliction that people with CAIS and 5 alpha reductase deficiency have, conditions so rare even within the transgender category, when you don’t have the condition. You seem to use it, disingenuously, I would say, to justify transitioning and SRS. You call your general trans issue as a medical condition when it is arguably not. And then you go all over the place with untrue and inapplicable claims of hatred for trans individuals by certain posters in this forum, that the Church would allow trans marriage (you ardently hope!).

Finally, your example that the Church would / could nullify a marriage if a spouse realizes he/she is forced to transition is so far out, so ridiculous to be true. First of all, annulments are done on request by parties to a Catholic marriage. A marriage would qualify for nullity, for that matter, if there is material fraud or dishonesty after the fact, that is discovered in going into the marriage, which is expected to be unitive and procreative. The likely scenario with discovery and/or unresolved homo/bisexual/transgender … problems of a spouse in a marriage is that the couple will divorce. Unless the straight spouse is hoping to marry in the Church to another (of the opposite sex of course!) annulment would likely not come up. And when it does, a petition is filed, the outcome of nullity is welcomed, not that the Church would hand down a judgment on its own to partners who would be unwilling to separate.

So for example, say a woman is born with a vagina and a penis, but was mentally female and lived mentally female, would she be able to get married and have sex? Obviously not using her penis, but with her vagina?

The same goes for a male. If he was born with a vagina, would he be able to get married, but using his penis to penetrate, but not be penetrated?

Or would that be considered an invalid marriage?

Perhaps years ago situations like that MAY have VERY, VERY RARELY occurred and been an issue. But, I think that in today’s world, accurate determination of gender is possible and all those superfluous organs would be surgically removed during infancy so the situations you describe would not be an issue when it came time for the individual to discern marriage.

My dear Vivian, I think you are jumping to conclusions, just because surgery might more or less fulfil the desire to be the gender they felt they were does not necessarily mean it fixes other issues.

This site tends towards being more intelligent and substantially more female than most forums.

Actually that therapy was for curing paedophilia which science believed to be possible at the time.

CAIS individuals are probably substantially under represented amongst transgendered persons assuming that GID is caused by natural causes. The transgendered state of mind is probably caused by a hormonal mess up such as a female receiving too much androgens in the womb or a male receiving too little. A CAIS person is more or less incapable of “receiving” too much androgens as they can’t metabolize it much.

True, the Church only looks to see if a marriage is invalid if a spouse requests it.

Hey coptic,

I have be recovering from surgery the past week. I was so bored out of my mind until somehow I came across this website. Unfortunately it is back to work with me. It has been such fun toying with you. You have had me laughing my *** off. Thank you so much for the entertainment. You crack me up. It has been so much fun having you run from here and there. I would just cut and paste stuff off the internet and I can just imagine you taking all that time reading a bunch of ****. I feel kind of bad jerking you around, but I couldn’t resist. You just made it too easy. I wish I could take a couple of more days off to play around with you, but its back to the real world.

Let the records show that tonyinatlga12’s arguments have been defeated here and how he acted here is pathetic.

Unfortunately, that identity is not the only one like him. “He’s” just more honest than most.

Careful, you might get accused of crushing someone’s hopes. 😉

This must be the reason, referring to the first part of your sentence, that we hang out in this place. 😃

Just curious though how you know CAF has more female members than males. Where did you see that info, especially when not all members provide gender profile?

Perhaps, but as it turned out and not to put too fine a point (it was still abuse!) the fact finding study by John Jay College found that most priests committing child sexual abuse were not individuals attracted to prepubescent children. The majority of victims (almost 75%) were between 11 and 17 years of age; therefore, a more accurate clinical term for these priests is hebephiles (showing sexual preference for children in their early years of adolescence)—rather than pedophiles. Further, the major distinguishing feature of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church is that the majority of alleged victims are male (81%). Therefore, the Catholic Church sex abuse is about homosexual pedophilia or more accurately homosexual hebephilia (the old term being pederasty).

Don’t worry, my hopes and dreams of finding any happiness in this life have already been stomped to death as I have been taught by this forum that my lot in life is to suffer until death from extreme loneliness and isolation. 😦

Is it that women are here because intelligent people are here, intelligent people are here because women are here or that there is substantial overlap between them?

Intensive statistical data analysis. It actually isn’t that hard as many forums have gender disparities from 1:2 to 1:75. Some parts of Catholic Answers are more skewed than others, for example Family Life especially Parenting have a better female to male ratio. My meta analysis also more heavily weighed people with more posts

Back then they had a tendency to get lumped together. I think a major problem is that when people get lonely, especially men, they tend to want sex which is often confused for intimacy. Additionally because they were placed on a pedestal (which isolated them) the people reacted worse when they found out that priests can also be sinners, back when the stuff was happening people also tended to cover it up.
