Sir, you are obviously wrapped in your religion as was the Jews in Jesus’ time so therefore I could argue with you all night long about how Paul tells us many many times in his Epistles that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ and you would only care to focus upon what your church says and teaches and requires regardless of what the Scriptures say. All I can say is that your Bible must contain vastly different translations of Paul’s letters to the Romans and Ephesians than compared to mine.
Hello Again SIA

“Sir, you are obviously wrapped in your religion as was the Jews in Jesus’ time…”

I don’t know what you are attempting to communicate here. Many Jewish people during the time of Jesus accepted Him (becoming Christian) and many rejected Him.

I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and I fully and completely surrender to Him and to His Roman Catholic Church.

Can you say the same for your "religion” or particular Christian denomination ; “That you fully and completely surrender to Him (Jesus) and to His “Church”; meaning, surrendering to all that which is taught by your particular “religion”?

I am a Roman Catholic and Catholics are Christians.

Show me the Bible verses.

All Bibles have much more in common than they do differ. Any accurate English translation of “Paul’s letters to the Romans and Ephesians” are going to be the same, or have the same meaning. If there are any “differences”, they will likely be addressed in a footnote at the bottom of the page.

The only way I can tell you if your Bible’s “translation” is in error or in conflict with the “Catholic” Bible, is if you post a verse or verses here.

Are you confusing “translations” with “interpretation”?

Use the Bible, and post the verses that allegedly support your position.

If “Christian Truth” is on your side and your position can be supported Biblically, then produce “your “ Bible verses.

Your posts contain mostly personal opinions and very few Bible verses, why is that?

Why won’t you answer my question; “Do you believe that the Bible is in conflict or that there exists any verses in the Bible that conflict”?

My answer is “No”; there is no conflict in the Bible.

I am a Roman Catholic so I am not afraid of the Truth and I am not afraid of any Bible verse.

The Bible is a “Catholic Book”.

God Bless 👍

Are we Saved by “Faith Alone” or “Faith and Good Works”?
Simply put; “good works” means, doing those things that are pleasing to God.

What Christian is apposed to doing those things that are pleasing to God?

So, what is the opposite of “good works”?

The opposite of “good works” would be, doing those things that are not pleasing to God or failing to do what is pleasing to God.

_____________________________

If you believe that we are not judged by our “good works”, then please answer these 5 questions:

**1. **If “good works”, physical acts (doing those things that are pleasing to God) are not necessary for our Salvation, Then why do “Born Again” Christians recite the “Born Again” prayer? Isn’t reciting the “sinners” prayer, a physical act or an act of “good works”? Isn’t this act performed prior to one receiving “God’s grace”?

Reciting the “Born Again” prayer would definitely be, “good works”.

2. If “good works” (doing those things that are pleasing to God) are not necessary for our Salvation, then why do we baptize and why are we Baptized? Isn’t Baptism a physical act or an act of “good works”?

The act of Baptism is definitely an act of “good works”.

3. If “good works” (doing those things that are pleasing to God) are not necessary for our Salvation, then why do non-Catholic, Christians even bother with funeral ceremonies? Why do Christian Pastors read or recite prayers at funerals? Isn’t a funeral ceremony a physical act or an act of “good works”?

Funeral ceremonies are definitely an act of “good works”.

4. If “good works” (doing those things that are pleasing to God) are not necessary for our Salvation, then why do non-Catholic, Christians even bother with “wedding ceremonies” (Holy Matrimony), isn’t a wedding ceremony an act of “good works”?

Wedding ceremonies are definitely an act of “good works”.

5. If “good works” (doing those things which are pleasing to God) are not necessary for our Salvation, because our Salvation is “guaranteed”, then why is it necessary for us to pray, read the Bible, go to Church on the Sabbath, avoid sin, forgive, love and asked to be forgiven?

Aren’t all these, all acts of “good works””?

God does not need your good works to save you.
It is by your heart that you believe and are justified.

It is you who needs those good works so that you would understand your own salvation, that you are already saved by God, it is you who need assurance of salvation as you see
how God’s power in you enables you to actually do good works.
Good works is the proof of your salvation

That is just a silly question

from my perspective - Faith is the first ‘good’ work.

However if more ‘good works’ do not follow, then there was no first, and hence no faith to start with.

😃

Simply answer read John 3:16-18. Its that easy, that is what Jesus said. If you believeth in him you should not perish. If you believeth on you are not condemn. Good Works dont save you. Read Isaiah 64:6 all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags. Read Ephesian 2:8-9 by grace we are saved through faith. it was a gift from God, i thank God for it.
Alot of people misuse John 3:5, was must be born again of the water and of the spirit. What Jesus meant by this is you must be born again by the holy spirit and of the word of God. The holy spirit will cleanse you with the word of truth, the bible. People say he meant baptism if he meant that he would be lying about one thing and Jesus did no such thing. It would go agaisnt John 3:16-18.
Now you claming people doing works to get to heaven is so wrong. Read John 14:14-31. you really only have to read 14 to get the point. What im trying to say is when you really believe want Jesus did for you and God given his only son, you are going to love love him. And Jesus said if you love me keep my commandmesnts, you want be able to all the time but you will try. 1 john 1:7-10.
SO PLEASE STOP WITH THE FOOLISH ATTACKS READ YOU BIBLE AND STOP BELIEVING WHAT EVERYONE SAYS.

Hello Carraway,

Welcome to CAF,

I am glad that God loves me, even though you think I’m “foolish”.

I don’t want to appear “foolish”, so why don’t you enlighten all of us and tell us, what in your opinion, it means to, “believe in Jesus” and what is “faith”?

I hope that the sum of your Christian faith isn’t based on a handful of Bible verses alone.

This ought to be good. 😃

Be nice. 🙂

Peace

First off I’m sorry if I offend anyone but my comments about being foolish. I just wish people would read there bible more. My opinion means nothing, that’s why everything I said was supported by the Bible, Gods word. And my Christian faith is not just those few verse its based on the whole bible and nothing but the bible. But I can say that my Christian faith is on a those handful of Bible verses alone, in John 3:16-18 Jesus tells Nicodemus what he needs to do to have eternal life, Jesus. (John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.) You speak of this verses as if we a reading a book, this are the words of God.

John 8: 24, 51. In verse 24 Jesus said “believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sin.” In verse 51 he said keep his saying and you shall never see death. John 6: 37-40 In this verse Jesus tell the Jews whoever the Father gives him he will not cast out, this is way he came. Jesus will loss no one that the Father give him and he will raise them up again at the last day. Everyone that seeth Jesus and believeth on him, may have everlasting life. That’s pretty easy, just believe.
But the Father must give you to the son. Romans 3:11, no one seeketh after God and no one understand. God will give you that desired to seek after Jesus and give you that understanding so you can have that faith. An example of this is in Acts 16: 25-34 God drawing people to him. The apostle Paul told his jailer, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.” That Philippian man and his household had saving faith. They accepted the invitation and joined God’s family.

Abraham was saved by faith not by works read Romans 4: 2-7. If Christian or Catholic do works of God that great by that is not the means of our salvation. It clearly says it in this verse please read them. In verse 3 Paul said “what saith the scripture“(the final authority, God’s word).
Here is what it said.
Genesis 15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

PLEASE READ Romans 4: 2-7

Heavenly Father I pray that this will be acceptable in you sight. In Jesus name I Pray amen.

Hello Again Carraway,

Thank you for your post, below I have listed the verses cited by you, along with their links.

This may be a shock to you but Catholics, not only read the Bible, they have the Bible read to them at every Mass.

Before we get started, I have one question and that is, do you believe that there exists conflict in the Bible, where one Bible verse conflicts with another and more specifically, do you believe that there exists verses in the New Testament, which conflict?

This is important and in my following posts, you will understand why.

I am afraid, by reading your posts here that your entire faith is based on an out of context, snapshot and if you stick around, I will explain why I feel this way.

Please keep in mind that context is everything.

Here (below) are the verses that you have cited, Please let me know, if I left any out. If you would like to throw a few more in there, before we get started, go ahead. -

Genesis 15:6
16 3 In the fourth time-span the others shall come back here; the wickedness of the Amorites will not have reached its full measure until then."

John 1:1
1 12 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 3:16-18
16 For God so loved the world that he gave 7 his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn 8 the world, but that the world might be saved through him.
18 Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

John 6:37-40
37 Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,
38 because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.
39 And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it (on) the last day.
40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him (on) the last day."

John 8:24
24 That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. For if you do not believe that I AM, 12 you will die in your sins."

John 8:51
51 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death."

Acts 16: 25-34
25 About midnight, while Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God as the prisoners listened,
26 there was suddenly such a severe earthquake that the foundations of the jail shook; all the doors flew open, and the chains of all were pulled loose.
27 When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors wide open, he drew (his) sword and was about to kill himself, thinking that the prisoners had escaped.
28 But Paul shouted out in a loud voice, “Do no harm to yourself; we are all here.”
29 He asked for a light and rushed in and, trembling with fear, he fell down before Paul and Silas.
30 Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you and your household will be saved.”
32 So they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to everyone in his house.
33 He took them in at that hour of the night and bathed their wounds; then he and all his family were baptized at once.
34 He brought them up into his house and provided a meal and with his household rejoiced at having come to faith in God.

Romans 3:11
11 there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God.

Romans 4:2-7
2 2 Indeed, if Abraham was justified on the basis of his works, he has reason to boast; but this was not so in the sight of God.
3 For what does the scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” 3
4 A worker’s wage is credited not as a gift, but as something due.
5 But when one does not work, yet believes in the one who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness.
6 So also David declares the blessedness of the person to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
7 "Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered.

Faith and Works

**The Bible is clear that faith holds a first and prominent role in the salvation of every person. **

Hebrews 10:38
But my just one shall live by faith, and if he draws back I take no pleasure in him." …

Hebrews 11:6
5 But without faith it is impossible to please him, for anyone who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

**The Bible is equally clear on the saving role of good works in the lives of the faithful. **

1 Peter 2:12
But these people, like irrational animals born by nature for capture and destruction, revile things that they do not understand, and in their destruction they will also be destroyed,

Revelations 2:2
"I know your works, your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot tolerate the wicked; you have tested those who call themselves apostles but are not, and discovered that they are impostors. 4

Matthew 5:16
Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.
.
Matthew 16:27
22 For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory, and then he will repay everyone according to his conduct.

John 14:21
Whoever has my commandments and observes them is the one who loves me. And whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him."

Ephesians 2:8-10
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so no one may boast. For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should live in them.

Philippians 2:12-13
10 11 So then, my beloved, obedient as you have always been, not only when I am present but all the more now when I am absent, work out your salvation with fear and trembling. 12 For God is the one who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work.

James 2:14-24
6 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?
If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day,
and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?
So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Indeed someone might say, “You have faith and I have works.” Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works.
You believe that God is one. You do well. Even the demons believe that and tremble.
Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless?
Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?
You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by the works.
Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called “the friend of God.”
See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

We are will be judge according to or deeds (works)

Romans 2:5-8
By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God,
who will repay everyone according to his works: 3
eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works,
but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness.

2 Corinthians 5:10
For we must all appear 7 before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive recompense, according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil.

2 Corinthians 11:15
So it is not strange that his ministers also masquerade as ministers of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

1 Peter 1:17
Now if you invoke as Father him who judges impartially according to each one’s works, conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning,

Revelations 20:12-13
I saw the dead, the great and the lowly, standing before the throne, and scrolls were opened. Then another scroll was opened, the book of life. 10 The dead were judged according to their deeds, by what was written in the scrolls.
The sea gave up its dead; then Death and Hades 11 gave up their dead. All the dead were judged according to their deeds.

Matthew 25:34-36
Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,
naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.’

**The Bible makes it clear that there must be a balanced relationship between our faith and its expression in good works. **

James 2:14-18
6 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?
If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day,
and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well,” but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?
So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Indeed someone might say, “You have faith and I have works.” Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works.

Hebrews 6:10
For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love you have demonstrated for his name by having served and continuing to serve the holy ones.

James 2:20-22
Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless?
Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?
You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by the works.

Matthew 16:27
22 For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory, and then he will repay everyone according to his conduct.

1 Corinthians 3:8
The one who plants and the one who waters are equal, and each will receive wages in proportion to his labor.

Colossians 3:23-24
Whatever you do, do from the heart, as for the Lord and not for others,
knowing that you will receive from the Lord the due payment of the inheritance; be slaves of the Lord Christ.

**The Bible indicates that it is wrong to disturb the balance of works expressing a life of faith. Man is not saved by faith alone. **

James 2:24
See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

James 2:26
For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

Nor** is man saved by works alone. **

Romans 9:31-32
but that Israel, who pursued the law of righteousness, did not attain to that law?
Why not? Because they did it not by faith, but as if it could be done by works. They stumbled over the stone that causes stumbling, 11

Galatians 3:11
And that no one is justified before God by the law is clear, for “the one who is righteous by faith will live.”

**The Bible declares that salvation is a gift of God alone and constantly reaffirms that faith has a primary role in that salvation. **

Matthew 7:21
"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, 10 but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God;
it is not from works, so no one may boast.

Hebrews 6:1
Therefore, let us leave behind the basic teaching about Christ and advance to maturity, without laying the foundation all over again: repentance from dead works and faith in God,
Hebrews 9:14
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit 12 offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from dead works to worship the living God…

2 Timothy 1:9
7 He saved us and called us to a holy life, not according to our works but according to his own design and the grace bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before time began,

Titus 3:4-5
But when the kindness and generous love of God our savior appeared,
not because of any righteous deeds we had done but because of his mercy, he saved us through the bath of rebirth and renewal by the holy Spirit,

Romans 3:27-28
What occasion is there then for boasting? 9 It is ruled out. On what principle, that of works? No, rather on the principle of faith. 10
For we consider that a person is justified by faith apart from works of the law.

Galatians 5:4-6
You are separated from Christ, you who are trying to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.
For through the Spirit, by faith, we await the hope of righteousness.

Jimmy, It appears that you have you have done your home"work". Thank you. The one reference in Colossians 3:23 about whatever we do we need to do from the heart brought me to 1Cor 13:13 “So faith, hop, love remain, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
My faith keeps bringing me to the Heart of Jesus and it is from His Love for us that He acted and allowed Himself to be crucified. Without His Sacrifice for us we would not have any idea how love is to be put into action for the benefit of others.
Love is hollow without action. Faith in Christ led me to love Him and gives me guidance in my actions.
I must go and do some work now for Him.
God Bless.

According to Romans 2: 5-8 Im not going to be judged in this way. If you read verse 1-4 you will see that he is talking to someone that has condemned himself. John 3:17-18 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Only you can condemned yourself. In verse 2 Paul is sure that the judgment of God is according to truth.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Romans 2:8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,. So if you do not obey the truth, Jesus Christ, you will be judged by your works, which are nothing in the sight of good without faith.
Romans 2:16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

I didn’t have much time I will post more later.

Sometimes it’s necessary to fire for effect.

There are a lot more Catholic verses where that came from.

After all, the Bible is a Catholic book 😃

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Doing my best to defend my Catholic faith 👍

Cover me! I’m reloading.

I am a Roman Catholic so I am not afraid of the Truth and I am not afraid of any Bible verse.

The Bible is a “Catholic Book”.

God Bless 👍

I’m sorry I do not share your opinion here. If you are truly Roman Catholic, there are many verses in Scripture that you are not in agreement with and the Bible is not a Catholic book nor is it an Orthodox book. It is an Early Christian Church book.

“If you are truly Roman Catholic, there are many verses in Scripture that you are not in agreement with”

Says who? Could you please explain yourself and list a few examples?

Do you believe that there exists conflict in the Bible, where one verse conflicts with another? As a Roman Catholic, I do not have this belief.

The Bible is a Catholic Book and it all supports Catholicism in one way or another.

“and the Bible is not a Catholic book nor is it an Orthodox book. It is an Early Christian Church book.”

What do you base this comment on? The Catholic Church is the Early Christian Church and the Roman Catholic Church existed before the Bible was finally approved, as we know it today.

Are you suggesting that The Roman Catholic Church was not in possession of the writings, which were ultimately put together to create the Bible?

Additionally, are you rejecting the fact that Roman Catholic Popes oversaw the process and actually approved the Bible?

I suggest that you research the Formation of the Bible and the Canon of the New Testament, also, Christian History and Christian Timelines…

Please provide reliable sources, which support your opinions here.

Finally, I have nine additional questions for you.

In your opinion;
  1. What is the name of the first Christian religion?
  2. What came first, the Bible or the Roman Catholic Church?
  3. What came first, the Bible or Roman Catholic Popes?
  4. What came first, the Council of Nicaea, and the Nicene Creed or the Bible?
  5. What came first, the Roman Catholic Church or the Orthodox Church?
  6. When did ”Protestantism” begin?
  7. When was the printing press invented and before the printing press, how were the books of the Bible copied and who did the copying?
  8. Which organization was responsible for the first Universities?
  9. Do you share the exact same “Christian” beliefs and interpretation of the Bible, as those of other non-Catholic, Protestant denominations? If not, then why not?
I look forward to your response.

Thank you.

Can you prove that the Early Christian Church was indeed the RCC of today? I’ll bet that Orthodox Christians would have more to say about this than even Protestants do.

Just a simple point to consider. The new testament writings were in possession of the “early church”. This “early church” was called the “Catholic Church” as early as 110 AD.
“Wheresoever the bishop shall appear, there let the people be, even as where Jesus may be, there is the universal katholike] Church.” – letter of St. Ignatius to the Smyrnaeans, 110 AD.
Jesus promised us that **HE will build **his church. (Matthew 16:18) So it’s obvious that he will not allow error to creep into the doctrines of his church.

Now, all of a sudden (for Protestants, not for us), we see that the Catholic Church is in possesion of the new testament writings! What happened to Christ’s church then? Did he fail to build it? Did it disappear? No! It didn’t. The Catholic Church is indeed his church!
