The funny thing about that is it’s a newer phenomenon. So are they crazier than before or are their viewpoints getting suppresed so much they feel like they have to lash out? Persona;;y, I think it’s somewhere in the middle.

But yes, I would. All presidents need to be protected. Now having said that, I’m not advocating shutting down protests…the secret service allowed a large group of anti-Bush protesters on the parade route for the inauguration.

Oh yeah, and I would be willing to bet a good chunk of those aren’t even Americans; if they were, we would see a lot more of it than just at the World Bank meetings.

DNC had Free Speech zones in Boston.

How were they potentially violent at the RNC convention? One liberal from Yale got near the top of a ten foot barrier in front of where Cheney was speaking before Secret Service agents hauled him down.

The same antiwar protesters from A.N.S.W.E.R. organized the largest protests against the GOP during the election.
Their pre-protest literature included suggestions such as throwing marbles on the streets to disable mounted police and using substances containing nitrates to set off explosive detectors in the subway system.

A.N.S.W.E.R. leaders have bragged about the success of the vandalism, looting and arson during the WTO protests in Seattle. In 2001, A.N.S.W.E.R. members rioted in D.C., climbed up on the Navy Memorial and tore down the American flag.

A.N.S.W.E.R. parent organization is the Workers World Party–a group which split off from the Communist Party USA in 1956 over the Soviet invasion of Hungary (the WWP supported the invasion; the CPUSA was tepid). The WWP had defended both Slobodan Milosevic and Saddam Hussein.

Brian Becker, Leslie Cagan and Medea Benjamin, are the leaders of A.N.S.W.E.R. and its offshoots. Becker’s forte is trips to North Korea to gather propaganda to use against the USA. Cagan shuttles to Havana to praise Castro. Benjamin is an old time Marxist now involved in “Code Pink” which protests wounded Vets and their families outside Walter Reed Hospital.

And no, these aren’t fringe individuals and groups unrelated to the DNC. Democratic Congressmen have spoken at A.N.S.W.E.R. rallies. Hollywood elites praise actions of the group. Marla Ruzicka, who works for Medea, was killed by a car bomb in Iraq last month. ABC, CBS, NBC, the New York Times and others in the media praised her as a humanitarian and “activist”. In reality, she was in country collecting information from the insurgents to use against U.S. forces.

ASFCME locals, part of the base of the Democratic party, have joined in organizing A.N.S.W.E.R. rallies.

These are not average Americans expressing political views. They are street thugs and fanatics. They have and do support the most tyrannical regimes on earth. They will, and have, used violence in the past.

But the Democratic Party refuses to condemn them. “No enemies on the left” is the operative mind set.

Again, you’re talking about a small percentage out of the overall number of protesters who just want to be seen in public by the President and press with their signs held up. You know, you hit the nail on the head by saying their not you’re average Americans, but so many are willing to condemn the rest anyway b/c their political view is different.

Freedom of speech is about the marketplace of ideas. This person could have made whatever point he may have been trying to make (if he had one at all), without using language which had no purpose related to discourse.

Violence, just because it is in the form of words, is not something that ought to be tolerated (unless tolerating it is necessary to preserve a greater good or avoid a greater evil).

That’s because the Democratic Party let all of those thugs into their party after the '68 Convention.

And the whole “free speach” angle is a red herring. The protestor broke Texas law regarding disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor down here.

The real reason Liberals will never, ever let up on Ann Coulter and despise her so much is one book: Treason

It cannot be refuted. She brought up dozens of names which were unfamiliar to most Americans. Liberals thought they had buried that era for good.

I read in another news account that children were present at the event. Apparently in Texas it is consider “disturbing the peace” to say vulgarities and to make vulgar hand gestures ("masturbating-like"gestures) in the presence of children.

Maybe in NYC or Boston these actions are “respected”?

I don’t believe in hecklers, and I certainly don’t support the actions of those that heckled Ms. Coulter.

Having said that, I find Coulter’s writing to be shrill, offensive, and shallow. She’s the far-right version of Maureen Dowd, or Michael Moore but with fewer facts. I don’t understand why conservatives hold her up as some sort of hero - better to stick with intelligent, well-spoken people like William Safire as the face of conservatism rather than nuts like Coulter.

And for the record, I’m not a fan of the left-wing nuts either, so don’t bother complaining about people like Dowd and Moore - I already agree with you.

Moore is a propagandist. Remember the happy kids with balloons in Iraq under Saddam? Dowd is vapid and twists facts. For instance she harped on Ratzinger being in the Hitler Youth but never mentioned membership was mandatory. Neither one ever wrote anything with a footnote I’m aware of. Coulter’s books are carefully footnoted. She knows the left will try to take her apart sentence by sentence.

The only error liberals could find in Treason was Coulter’s referring to as Undersecretary of State as the Secretary of State (the top guy was overseas, hence the mistake which was corrected).

Hypocritcal of liberals to defend Ward Churchill–an anti-American, a creator of false history, a plagerist who threatens collegues and pushed around a reporter-- on free speech grounds then rant on and on about Ann Coulter not having “facts” and being “shrill.”

…and the left wonders why it keeps loosing public support.

I seem to recall that all through out the DNC, very few Conservatives that tried to crash it were treated unfailry, I remember very well during the RNC that anybody booing or yelling thaty were trying to crash it were tackeld by security, shoved by Conservatives, etc. I remember Laura Ingraham’s son, on camera shoving a dissenter. Before the dissenter could even register what happened, security tackeld him, then Ingraham’s son started kicking him while he was on the ground. Did they arrest Ingraham’s son? No, but they charged the dissenter wirh aggrevated assault. I’m republican and usually vote a straight Republican ticket, but I saw a night and day difference this past election year with the way dissenters were treated at the DNC v. the RNC and it really ticked me off how my fellow Republicans acted.

I don’t defend Ward Churchill. He’s in the same category as Coulter, so far as I’m concerned.

I could have sworn it was Ingraham’s son, but I wasn;t not 100% sure. When the incident did happen, I remember clear as day that the kid was the son of a female pundit for the Republicans.

Coulter is just as much a propagandist as Moore. She takes a smidgen of fact and runs wild with it.

You may not like what Ann Coulter says or the way she says it, but she is not in the business of making stuff up like Ward Churchill (reference his "Native American heritage).

I bought the book Treason…all the claims she made were well backed up with references / sources. Perhaps you should read the book first.
