(We should) Avoid any media having anything to do with the scandal.
You go ahead and do that commenter.

I have people approaching me about leaving the Church or at least are very confused and I need to do what I can to help them REMAIN in the Church.

That means (for me at least) being an informed and faithful Catholic Christian.

I will leave the saving of the world (via this and similar threads) in your capable hands then.

pray, pray, pray.
Agreed. I prayed for Holy Mother Church this morning at Mass at the time if the Consecration and at my reception of Holy Communion.

Sounds like you did too (great!).

The mind wandering thing can be spuritual attacks. Everybody gets some of that. Talk to your Confessor is my advice.

Keep praying and keep up the good work commenter.

Don’t sell short God working in and through His Church. The clergy AND the laity.

As for me and my poor hands? Nothing apart from God almighty.

Take a week off from the forums altogether; or if you have a burning controversy going on the CAF Gardening sub forum, limit yourself ONLY to that.
Good idea, I’ll stick to arguing whether an episema should be on this or that note or whether all b’s should be flat in Mode I.
5 what really disturbed me is during morning Mass, I was distracted by composing in my mind responses to various threads I am on.
It fairly ruined Matins and Lauds for me too this morning and it didn’t help that it was also boiling hot and humid in my little oratory.

Cleary Satan is at work here, undermining our faith, our prayer lives and our civility towards each other.

When the Princes of the Church behave as many have done with these scandals, I will do as I always do and look to the Benedictines, particularly the community I’m attached to, for solace and for a sure path to Christ.

and how do we know he is of a sound mind. I am only in my 50’s and have a hard time remembering exact details about things that happened 5- 10 years ago.

Pope Benedict said he remembered the sanctions, but he did not remember the details.

I am not familiar with Slate website. It doesn’t look like it is a Catholic website. Is it a website that one would find favorable articles about Catholicism? Just wondering.

It’s not in love with Catholicism. Its journalism is pretty good, I’d say a step above its peers Buzzfeed, Vice and HuffPo. Slate is not as lefty as HuffPo, but all these websites are generally pro-gay.

What’s really confusing to me is that Pope Benedict is alive and of sound mind. He would know if there were sanctions against McCarrick specifically because of abuse.
You would think so. But the Church is a huge institution. I don’t know how much a pontiff gets into details. That seems to be part of the problem.

Also Benedict is pretty old. At that age certain types of memories can be really faint.
Anybody who has actually read the letter, with an open mind and at face value, can appreciate its tone and probable motivations.

The tone, innuendo, unsubstantiated allegations, ad hominem attacks and conspiracy theories in the letter are very revealing.
The letter is a bit rambling and colorful. I figure that might be due in part to the author being a native Italian.

The letter certainly doesn’t read like a US legal document. But how should a letter read that accuses the Church hierarchy of allowing a homosexual predator to predate upon priests and seminarians? How should a letter read that asserts a homosexual cabal exerts power at the highest levels? I can understand the ad hominem attacks, if the accusations are true.

I don’t find conspiracy theory to be a useful term. Conspiracies happen all the time. In the US plenty of people are in prison for them. In fact conspiracies seem to be almost the norm.

I am not sure how credible that story sounds, especially with this little disclaimer added:

"It’s unclear where, exactly, Gänswein made this comments, or what else he had to say.

Stay tuned. I have a feeling this ain’t over."

You can read the original article from the linked blog post. The secretary said this to the German reporter.

This is worse than the time I started moving Tetris blocks around in my head while lying in bed!
