How do you know that part and parcel of the worship of Almighty God, in Heaven, is NOT going to be the saints --and us when we get there–doing things for others?

Do you think that God is some kind of selfish dictator? That He created us not to love Him and others, but just to kind of ‘zone’ out and that all we do in heaven is say, "hosanna’?

How is THAT praising God? I thought that our ‘many words’ in prayer were all pagan anyway. But in heaven all we do is say, “hosanna”? Maybe raise our hands once in a while or get ‘slain in the Spirit?’ That’s it?

But what if praising God is by ‘doing’ for God?

Now anything we do here on earth we do through God’s grace (if we are going good), or we do ‘against’ Him if we sin. Right?

So, if you’re in heaven, you’re obviously in His grace, right? Furthermore, you are UNITED TO HIM. You ‘see’ what He sees, you 'hear", what He hears, and you are “doing” what He does. If not, you are ‘apart’ from Him, aren’t you? Where is the Scripture that says we are apart from Jesus?

So if Jesus is sending you grace from heaven, He is sending it ‘through’ all who are united with Him. He doesn’t keep things separate from those who are as much ‘the Body’ as He is --how could He?

Catholics know this. We know that any grace that is sent through Mary or Saint Paul or St. Joseph etc. has as its origin Christ. We know that He delights to honor His chosen saints too. Did He not tell us in Scripture that we would do 'greater miracles than He?" Did you think that was limited only to what we do on earth?
I know I am always cautious in telling God what to do and how to run His Heaven. I know what I see in Revelation and if that is all that we do in Heaven I’m sure it will be far greater than anything I can imagine and I won’t demean God if that is indeed all we do there. But what I do know is that is what God has in His wisdom made clear we will be doing. Beyond that = speculation by man.

The came in under a different system though (of course still through God’s grace). Thankfully Christ came as the ultimate and final sacrifice, dieing just that one time upon the cross.
So now it is a different system. Yeah the system of a Baptism of Desire…to die and rise in Christ.

I think there are other great churches outside my denomination. In fact, I am honestly more likely to refer someone to a church NOT in my denomination in other cities/regions of the world.
Have you stopped to consider why you need to do this? Surely, after 2,000 years, Christ’s true Church should be able to be found in every city, don’t you think? 🤷

The Book of Acts shows us clearly that the Church that Christ founded was both visible and authoritative - it was not a matter of “believe in Jesus, and every man for himself.”

Right - and they went to Heaven on the basis of the same Cross and Resurrection that we do. (I Peter 3:19) 🙂

This is why Catholics can only go to a Catholic Church, otherwise it gives the opinion that different denominations are just as good as yours. Again this is relativism at it finest, when one can just go to any other church when he so chooses.
And on the same note I could say that the Catholic view is pride at its finest then, since they have the corner on the market of being the true church. But then there are those other pesky groups who also also claim Apostolic Succession.

And there are without question churches and denominations I would not send people to. Even the Mormons call their place of self idolatry a church.

What are you talking about? How is that even on the topic I was talking about?
Re: Post 270

I am so sorry, I made a mistake with my verse numbers. But there again, I’m only an ignorant Catholic.

I am going to say my piece now and I don’t care if I get banned for it. You are one of the rudest people I have ever come across. You have purposely started a thread in which you are the centre of attention. Everything that we (Catholics) say is derided and mocked in a smug and holier than thou manner. I was just waiting to see if you’ve digested anything that we have discussed with you in charity. I can’t see that you have bent even a fraction. If you think you’ll break us down, forget it. We are the stuff martyrs are made of. :knight2:

Yeah, cause in Baptism we die with him, and we rise with him…it is His application of the Cross to us. In fact the Church says that all the Sacraments are the means in which His merits of the Cross is applied to us.

And we have a rare moment of clarity between us. 👍 He was saying that I’m not claiming Southern Baptists as the one, true church. I don’t say that.
If not, then why belong to it?

Surely, we should all at least think that we belong to the Church that was established at Pentecost, shouldn’t we - and that what we are being taught from our pulpits is the same as what the Apostles were preaching, in those days? 🙂

👍 Archbishop Fulton Sheen likens them to water taps. There is the rushing river, and there is your kitchen sink. Somehow, the water has to get from the river to your kitchen sink. Wonderful invention, water pipes - they get the water from the river to your sink with a simple twist of the tap.

There is Jesus on the Cross, in 33 AD, just outside the walls of Jerusalem.

There is me, a sinner, in Calgary, in 2010 AD. How do we get the blood and water that is gushing from the side of Jesus to wash away my sins today? By means of the Sacraments. 🙂

Wow…I like that!

Some of them even have it, although they are in schism from the Church - which is why when you are discerning, you should certainly examine their claims to see if they stand up to historical scrutiny, and whether their doctrines conform to the faith of the ancient Creeds.

So Mary can control time? Really? You’re going to go with that?
Where did I say that she controls it?
I guess when I read the book of Revelation I missed the part of the group of Saints and Mary standing in the corner redirecting prayer rather than focusing their worship on the One who sits on the throne. Is that part in those other 7 books the Protestants don’t get?
Those “bowls of incense” are the prayers of the people on earth, being offered to the Throne of God by the saints who are in Heaven. (the “Elders.”)

Are you saying I’m telling God what to do? Where do you get that?

Where in Revelation (or in the entire Bible) does it say that all that we will know of heaven is written there in the Bible?

In fact, we know it will be greater than what we ‘imagine’ so why do you limit God?

You say you know that God has ‘made clear what we will be doing’.

Tell us exactly what God has 'made clear we will be doing in Heaven. . .and how it ‘contradicts’ my post.

Well said! If patronising Catholics were an Olympic sport, this man would be a contender for gold. If I did want to ‘ask a baptist pastor’ a question, I would look for one who has some manners and would actually and thoughtfully answer the questions posed. This guy doesn’t want to hear anyone’s voice but his own.

I innocently made a mistake with my post and I got, “What are you talking about?” even if someone said this quietly and sweetly it would still sound sarcastic. It felt just like a slap in the face. I went cold. Ooooooooooh!

Pastor, you’re not the first to turn away over some of Christ’s harder teachings-others who did so are mentioned in John 6:60 and following verses. And a reading of ECFs confirm that they, like today’s Church, held the Eucharist in deep reverence, considering it to be the actual Body and Blood.
I have always wondered how it is possible to profane that which is not present. If it is not, as He said, His Body and His Blood, then how can partaking of it in an unworthy manner profane it? It is like saying someone is disrespecting the flag when there is no flag there.

???

Code:
Catholic friends, you think by saying "your interpretation of Scripture" you are refuting something. Quick examination of that. 2 Timothy 3:16-17...
Do you think this passage authorizes you to interpret scripture differently than the authority appointed by Christ?
If I MUST show it by the early church as a whole to convince you, you are denying the very Scriptures you claim to hold to. I should be able to convince you by Scripture. And if you will ONLY be convinced by looking at the early church, your heart is hardened and have actually condemned yourself. Look to the Word. Don’t look merely for a “personal interpretation.” Look for the meaning of the text. Therein is found life. Therein is found truth.
No, we know that the early Church produced the Scriptures, and that there is nothing in them that is inconsistent with the beliefs and practices of that early Church.

We also know that the Holy Spirit will not reveal an “eternal Truth” to Steve, 2000 years after the fact that contradicts what He has already revealed to the church. Therefore, if your personal interpetation contradicts that which was taught and practiced by the Apostles, and what they passed on to their successors, it is not from the same HS. It constitutes “a different gospel”.

You cannot convince us by using the Fathers because you have departed from the faith that was committed to them by the Apostles.
