Can you tell me the date when the Arminian Protestant faith began and its founder (s)?
Jesus Christ founded my Faith and my faith is eternal.
How many followers do you have?

In what countries are you located?
Right round the [planet and in Heaven too.

Who is your authority of the Arminian Protestant faith?
Please dont say Jesus thats getting old from protestant faiths.

Jesus Christ The same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) The Lord does not change.

Getting old? You’ll have to ask an extreme liberal.
Gabriel of 12;3315253:
Do you believe in the sacraments?
Two not seven.
Do you have a magesterium?
Yes
If I Joined your faith today, can I believe what I want to about Christianity and what I think the bible teaches?
You can, but it may be at your peril.

Since Martin L decided to judge and condenmened the CC and claimed his teachings are the ones to be believed.

As protestants, how do you guys deal with the passage in the Bible which Jesus pray for the Apostles that they may be one as God and Jesus is one, without divisions, same faith same believe, same teachings?

I believe that the Father hears, and honors all of the prayers of the Son; therefore, it is right to conclude that the true church is not divided, but is one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father (Eph 4:4-5).

Paul never said that the number of the elect correspond to the number of angels that fell. According to Augustine, when a third of the angels fell their seats became vacant for people who God elected before hand.

Paul never said anything of the sort.

Some Augustinian Theolgy is nuts.

Have you guessed that I’m an Arminian yet? 😉
you are right in that paul never said the thing about fallen angels making room. but paul was pretty clear in his predestination thinking. he even uses the word (it’s where we get it from). augustine took the beginnings of his idea straight from the writings of paul. calvin took his ideas straight from paul and augustine. and then added his own ideas to them as well, just like augustine did.

i would not go so far as to call augustinian (some of it) theology “nuts”. there are places i don’t necessarily agree, but i think he was one of the greatest Christian minds we have ever had.

i dont undrstand? were u a live back then. did u write somethine before them. do you mean the other way around? that u do not agree with them instead of them agreeing with u…

goodness people!!!
this is not a debate thread!!!
start a new thread if you want to debate. he gave you the answer, it’s just not the one you like.

I have another one. Are there any aspects to the Catholic (or Orthodox) faith that you would love to have incorporated into your denomination, like Lent or Advent? Are there any things that you yourself have added on your own?

Lent and Advent actually are observed by quite a few protestants.

The second part of the question is particularly interesting to me.

I am experimenting with praying the rosary - both the Catholic traditional rosary and the Anglican rosary. I find myself seeking a more contemplative/meditative way of praying.

That is what I have in mind with my question. Are you finding that it helps? Have you read any of the works of the mystics, like John of the Cross?

I just love your idea - a true Q & A thread with no debates!

When you wrote this, about babies not being accountable for their actions it made me think of this question:

What does your church teach about Original Sin? Or, what are your beliefs on Original Sin?
Although human nature was seriously affected by the fall, man has not been left in a state of total spiritual helplessness. God graciously enables every sinner to repent and believe, but He does not interfere with man’s freedom
.
On account of this transgression, man fell under the displeasure and the wrath of God, rendered himself subject to a double death, and deserving to be deprived of the primeval righteousness and holiness in which a great part of the image of God consisted.
Arminius describes the effects of the first sin of the first man as “the withdrawing of that primitive righteousness and the whole of this sin, however, is not peculiar to our first parents, but is common to the entire race and to all their posterity.” Again, Arminius explains the effects of the sin of our first parents.
This was the reason why all men who were to be propagated from them in a natural way, became obnoxious to death temporal and death eternal, and devoid of this gift of the Holy Spirit or original righteousness: This punishment usually receives the appellation of “a privation of the image of God,” and “original sin.”
Kenneth Grider explains, “Original sin refers to a state of sin in us due to that original act of sin on Adam’s part.” In Wesley’s 272 page treatise, “The Doctrine of Original Sin,” he declared without this doctrine “the Christian system falls at once” [Works, 9:194]. Wesleyan-Arminians do affirm man’s sinful nature, our basic inclination to sin, our total depravity which was inherited from Adam.
And maybe explain why Baptism is a necessary sacrament (you listed it as one of the two sacraments that you believe in I think). Thanks so much!
It is necessary because God commanded it! It is part of our confession that Jesus is our Lord and Savior and part of becoming a Christian.

That is what I have in mind with my question. Are you finding that it helps? Have you read any of the works of the mystics, like John of the Cross?
I have a stack of reading material that includes St. John of the Cross. I asked a Methodist minister for some suggestions and these are the readings he suggested (and I have them all but I’ve not started reading yet):

The Practice of the Presence of God - Brother Lawrence
Praying the Psalms - Thomas Merton
The Imitation of Christ - Thomas a Kempis
Dark Night of the Soul - St. John of the Cross
The Way of Perfection - Theresa of Avila
Revelations of Divine Love - Julian of Norwich

What would you suggest I read first?

I am still so new to this - but I believe it will help. I was not taught to pray in this way, but as I have grown older, I knew I wanted to grow closer to God - to know him - and I believe prayer is definitely the way to do this.

As for my background - I was raised Southern Baptist (and no, I never realized the slavery connection), but left the church when I was a teenager. I have attended non-denominational churches, Methodist, and attended a conservative Anglican service last Sunday.

Can a peaceful and loving muslim make it to heaven?
Historic Friends position.

“There is a principle which is pure, placed in the human mind, which in different places and ages hath had different names. It is, however, pure and proceeds from God. It is deep and inward, confined to no forms of religion nor excluded from any, where the heart stands in perfect sincerity. In whomsoever this takes root and grows, of what nation soever they become brethren in the best sense of the expression.” William Penn

Not only do I read many Friend’s devotional classics, my favorite is “Testament of Devotion” by Thomas R. Kelly.

I have also read portions of…

The Practice of the Presence of God - Brother Lawrence
Praying the Psalms - Thomas Merton
The Imitation of Christ - Thomas a Kempis
Dark Night of the Soul - St. John of the Cross
Way of the Pilgrim

to name a few. I find such deep similarity between the writings of many of the “mystics” and Friend’s experience with the Light Within.
